In Frank Trippett’s excerpt, “A Red Light for Scofflaws”, he discusses the issue of more and more Americans breaking casual, everyday laws. He first brings the issue about by explaining that laws are put in place to benefit society for the good. Trippett continues his argument by stating America’s current slogan: “You’re a fool if you obey the rules.” Trippett's purpose is to inform people of the growing population of people contributing to lawbreaking so that more people will live by the laws intended to keep them safe and sound, even if the law is minor.
