Microsoft’s Windows Server 2003 enterprise license and support costs are competitive with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. 2. The two companies’ different approaches to enterprise licensing and support, and the fact that investments of this magnitude tend to involve longer-term commitments, means that the best pricing comparisons should be based on a period of ownership (three to six years), rather than on just initial acquisition charges. 3. Support is integral to both companies’ solutions and Microsoft’s separate support and license fee structures, in contrast with Red Hat's combined subscription and support offerings, can give a Microsoft solution a significant pricing advantage over a Red Hat solution. ...Mixed Economy A mixed economy is an economic system that incorporates aspects of more than one economic system. This usually means an economy that contains both privately-owned and state-owned enterprises or that combines elements of capitalism and socialism, or a mix of market economy and planned economy characteristics. This system overcomes the disadvantages of both the market and planned economic systems. Features * Resources are owned both by the government as well as private individuals. i.e. co-existence of both public sector and private sector. * Market forces prevail but are closely monitored by the government. Advantages * Producers and consumer have sovereignty to choose what to produce and what to consume but production and consumption of harmful goods and services may be stopped by the government. * Social cost of business activities may be reduced by carrying out cost-benefit analysis by the government. * As compared to Market economy, a mixed economy may have less income inequality due to the role played by the government. * Monopolies may be existing but under close supervision of the government. http://www.dineshbakshi.com What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mixed Economy? ...CHAPTER 5: COUNTRY RISK ANALYSIS 53 CHAPTER 5 COUNTRY RISK ANALYSIS I moved this chapter from the section on foreign investment analysis to this section because I have concluded that the international economic environment is heavily dependent on the policies that individual countries pursue. Given the close linkage between a country’s economic policies and the degree of exchange risk, inflation risk, and interest rate risk that multinational companies and investors face, it is vital in studying and attempting to forecast those risks to understand their causes. Simply put, attempts to forecast exchange rates, inflation rates, or interest rates are helped immensely by a deeper understanding of how those economic parameters are affected by national policies. At the same time, no one can intelligently assess a country’s risk profile without comprehending its economic and political policies and how those policies are likely to affect the country’s prospects for economic growth. I spend some time discussing the nature of property rights and their implications for political risk and economic development. The chapter examines the experiences of Latin American countries and Eastern European countries and addresses the question of what it takes to promote economic growth. A good discussion of property rights and their effects on economic growth can be based on the end-of-chapter problems. This discussion serves to introduce the topic of country risk analysis–the assessment of the potential...

...This report will first indicate and analyses the case, then it will use the knowledge to resolute the special fact of monopoly and competition in the United State. People can set postal services, sounds like a joke, but in the United States, there are not only private postal, but also the private prison. Companies which in the United States are generally known for high efficiency and good service, but the postal service is an exception. One of the reason is that lacking of competition and state subsidies in this industry, secondly, employees usually holding this work, which is easy to cause low efficiency and poor service At home and abroad, very few exceptions, for example, posting mail slot of the standards set by the Chinese postal system is extremely narrow, slightly thick letter can not put into. American Standard mail slot can put into a small package. Mail slot postal services for people must pass through the channel. The size of the channel is perhaps equivalent to...

...standardize the system across the whole enterprise. Standardizing the system across the whole enterprise would ensure that the KL worldwide uses the same technology across the globe, from its server OS across to the point of sale system in each individual store. This would upgrade the IT infrastructure across the whole company. It will also optimize its supply chain as the company’s production is vertically integrated and the clothes needed for most of KL’s product lines are manufactured at the Indian plant (Richard Ivey School of Business, 2009, Table 2), the information across the entire enterprise can flow freely as it becomes more visible. Using Supply chain management (SCM) involves the management of information flows between and among stages in a supply chain to maximize total supply chain effectiveness and profitability. (Baltzan & Philips, 2011, p.203). This alternative has the highest initial costs due to the high investment in IT, but will lower costs in the long run as the firm becomes more efficient at forecasting its sales(demand planning systems), reducing inventory levels (supply chain planning systems), and reducing obsolete designs. Customers will also be satisfied as the firm will be able to produce more of its new designs faster as the information flows freely between the whole enterprise. And if there are any customer complaints, it can also be resolved quickly as management can pinpoint the exact point of error quickly. The free flow of information...
