Free Throw: The Most Important Shot

Free throws is the hardest shot to make in the game of basketball. Even though you only get one point if you make it, it still is the most important shot. Free throws determine the outcome of the game; win or lose, in college and professional leagues; practice free throws consistently, most of the stuggle also. To shoot a free throw correctly, you need the following: a basketball, a regular court, and a player.

The first step is to get fouled so you can shoot the free throw, make sure you go up for a layup or make the other team get a bunch of fouls so you can get a one and one also. While getting ready to shoot, step off the line to catch your breath; do not rush. If your not ready to shoot the free throw just yet, let the referee know to

Badminton and Basketball

...| | HOT NEWS... Just Released - NEW Badminton Training Program, Is it Any Good? Read All About it Here | | Basic Badminton RulesLearn the Basic Badminton Rules and you can start to enjoy the game. | Of course if you intend to play competitively, it's important that you know all of the badminton rules. For social and leisure purposes, I think this will do. Introduction Before the 2006 Thomas/ Uber Cup, the official scoring format was the 15 points format. The IBF (International Badminton Federation) then tested a new scoring format which is the 21 points rally format in the 2006 Thomas/Uber Cup. This 21 points rally format has since become the official one replacing the 15 points format. 15 Points Format There are a lot of people who still prefer the old format. So I have listed down the basic badminton rules for this format here if you have this preference. - To win a match, you have to win 2 out of 3 games. - To win a game, you have to score 15 points for men and 11 points for women. - If the score becomes 14-all (10-all in women's singles), the side which first scored 14 (10) shall exercise the choice to continue the game to 15 (11) points or to 'set' the game to 17 (13) points. - If you win a rally in which your opposition served, you win back the service rights. - Only the serving side can add a point to its score. - You score a point when your opponent could not return the shuttle or the shuttle he/she returns fall out of bounds. - In...

Assignment 4

...this to be a bad shot. With the lead and only 20 seconds remaining on the clock I would want the team to hold the ball for the last shot. If the shot is missed this leaves time on the clock for the other time to potentially get points to narrow the lead. I would talk to the team about holding the ball for the last shot after the quarter ended. Either we score or no one scores we don’t give opportunities to the other team. Also, if the player has an open lane and decides a three pointer I am going to let them know to not shoot that shot again. Always take the easier shot. I do believe this is a good strategy to start the 4th quarter with but I would change it up a tad bit. By playing 3/4 court man to man defense you are pressuring the offense but also speeding up their play. I would like the offense to take the ball up the court and the defense play man to man once the team crossed half court. The defense can still apply pressure playing man to man from beyond half court Putting pressure on the offense requires a combination of both attitude and aggressiveness by the defenders. I want the team to stay aggressive. An effective pressuring defense will not allow offensive movement to take place easily. At the same time I want them to be aggressive but also smart. Not go for steals that will allow easy baskets. Every point must be earned and not allowed. On offense I would want a lot of passes to run time but when the shot is there take it. Take open smart shots and keep pressuring...

I Love Sports Analysis

...I see athletes embrace the pressure of close games in the closing moments, while some shy away and disappear in the moment. When I was 11 years old, on December 4, 2009, I witnessed Kobe Bryant hit a buzzer beater to win the game against the Miami Heat. That image of Kobe shooting over Dwyane Wade has ever since been stuck in my head leading me to many childish fantasies of me hitting a game winning shot in game 7 of the finals to win the championship like Kobe did. That buzzer beater by Kobe was the first of many game winning plays I saw watching sports including the most recent of them which was a game tying hail mary by Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs to send the game to overtime against the Arizona Cardinals. However, in that time I have seen many instances where players have had the chance to make a crucial game winning play at the end of the game but failed to do so. One of the biggest recurring things I’ve seen over the years are missed free throws in clutch moments of games by really good free throw shooters, which made me thinking how can some people make several clutch shots repetitively while some superstars choke...

Basketball

...12 of the Most Confusing Basketball Rules When taking a charge, does the defensive player have to be still? Basketball rules state that if a defensive player is in a legal defensive stance or position, the defensive player has the right to move in order to maintain his legal positioning. A charging call can be made even if the defensive player has one or both feet off of the ground when the offensive player makes contact with the defensive player. The basketball rule of “verticality” applies here. If a defensive player jumps straight up to block a shot and the offensive player jumps into and creates contact with the defender, an offensive charging call could be made. (Therefore, it is more important if a defender is squared up and contact is made to the defender’s chest than if the defender is moving.) Is a dribble illegal if it goes over the ball handler’s head?  Basketball rules states if the ball handler doesn’t “palm” the ball or place their hand under the ball, there is no dribbling violation. There is no basketball rule or restriction on how high a dribble can go. Is reaching into an offensive player's area a foul? If a defensive player “reaches in” to attempt a steal or distract the offensive player they are guarding and doesn’t create any contact, no foul should be called. Reaching in isn’t necessarily a foul until contact is created. Basketball rules state that the foul isn’t called reaching in, but holding or pushing. Is over the back a foul when rebounding...

Dynamic Systems Theory Analysis

...by the equation Technique + Context = Skill” (Magias & Pill, 2013). TGfU-GS focuses on encouraging learner to participate in modified game situations, where the focus understanding the game rather than perfecting the technique (Magias & Pill, 2013). By using this theory as pedagogy of practice learners are able to develop a variety of movement solutions to solve problems within a game (Magias & Pill, 2013). One way physical educators/coaches can implement this, is by creating small sided games and manipulating the rules to use them in their favor. For example the learners could be placed into two separate groups (long distance and short distance shooters), each with their own shot point system to encourage them to use shots that they normally would not. As well as additional bonus points for ‘clean’ shots that go in without hitting the backboard or the hoop before going into the lattice, ensuring that no error in the release...

Why Math Is Needed In Soccer, Basketball And Hockey

...The three sports I will be talking about is soccer, basketball, and hockey. Soccers deal with parabola's, rectangles, and chance of making a goal on average, basketball deals with angles, length, and size of the ball, and hockey deals with horizontal lines, speed of opponent, and hockey size. These three sports show the reason why math is needed in sports. In the game of soccer in order to score you have to keep your kick from going overboard using the math of parabola’s. Parabola’s electronically show the chance of a goal from any spot on the field. Mathematically the highest point of the parabola for a 75% of a goal is between 10 to 15 feet off the ground due to speed, velocity, and wind speed. The ball can be kicked higher but wind speed...

...then the pitch could be shorter and more narrow), however, these are the dimensions required by law: The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m). With football being a fast, free- flowing game, there are very few breaks in play throughout the game other than for set pieces or throw ins. Analysing from Player’s Perspective Being a goalkeeper is one of the major positions on the football pitch, if not THE most important, as it is the most specialized position in the sport. The goalkeeper's primary role is to prevent the opposing team from successfully moving the ball over the goal-line (between the posts and under the crossbar). This is accomplished by the goalkeeper moving into the path of the ball and either catching it or directing it away from the vicinity of the goal line. Within the penalty area goalkeepers are able to use their hands, making them (outside of throw-ins) the only players on the field able to handle the ball. Goalkeepers perform goal kicks, and also give commands to their defense during corner kicks, direct and indirect free kicks, and marking. Goalkeepers play an important role...

Personal Narrative: Disc Golf

...My friend and I go on an annual disc golf tour every year. Disc golf is a sport we play frequently mostly because it's free. In 2012 we traveled to Alabama's newest course in Hoover. A line of Bradford Pears on each side of the road leading to the course made it seem like a nice place. Upon arriving at the parking lot we looked around and noticed our surroundings were trees which do not bode well for a disc golfer. We hiked up the hill to the first tee pad. I selected my disc of choice and watched my best friend and my minister of music at church Drew Whitlow release a perfect throw towards the basket. He made it look easy so I figured the same would happen for me. This assumption was proven wrong as my disc ripped through the thorns and brush...

Nba Statistics

...3……………………………………………………………………………………………………...9 Multiple Regression Analysis…………………………………………………..…………………………………….11 Summary ……….…………………………………………………………………………..………………………………..16 Reference……………………………………………………………….…………………………………………………….19 Appendices……………………………………………………………………….…………………………………………..20 Introduction For my statistical data analysis project, I chose to analyze the National Basketball Association (NBA) 2013 regular season teams. The analysis looks at the total team and reviewed the information such as games played, field goals attempt and percentage, free throw attempts and percentage, blocks and steals. The data was obtained from the NBA website. For the 2013 NBA stats there were 30 teams that played on the average of 82 games. Based on statistical analysis, the most important keys for team success in basketball and their relative weights, in parentheses, are field goal percentage, turnovers, offensive rebounds, free throw attempts and percentage, blocks and steals. Coaches are always looking for a better understanding of what makes up a winning team. This knowledge would help them improve the team statistics in the areas listed above. I took the entire statistical breakdown from the 2013-2014 seasons and in hopes to find any key statistical areas that could be directly related to winning percentage. Descriptive Analysis and Frequency Distribution For the descriptive analysis, I analyzed the Field Goal Percentage. Field goal percentage is one of the better basketball...

James Naismith Research Paper

...when the peach baskets were replaced with nets. The original game of basketball only had 13 rules created by Naismith. One of the most notable differences from today's rules is that you could not move with the ball in your hand. There was no dribbling, so you had to stay where you were and throw it without moving. Additionally, there were no free throws in the original game. Instead, if a team made three consecutive fouls, the opposite team would receive a point. There are an abundance of terms used in the game of basketball. While most people can deduce what some terms mean, there are some that may need some explanation. You'll often see many different fouls in the game. A personal foul happens when contact is made between players that could lead to injury or an unfair advantage. On the other hand, a technical...

Reaction Paper In Basketball

...As basketball personal trainers, the most common thing we see are players that want to work on their shot. Rarely does someone come to us and say, you know, I really want to work on my defense. A shot can be a mysterious thing. What feels great one day feels terrible the next. Consistency comes with practice and solid shooting form. Shooting form is also one of the most poorly coached things in basketball. While you can be creative with form and become consistent through practice, keeping it simple is the best way to go. Here is what we teach our players. Feet to follow through step by step guide. 1. Square Up Your feet should be squared at the hoop and a comfortable distance apart from each, usually shoulder width. Squared up means both...

Social Cognitive Theory

...Social Cognitive Theory Brynn Hill Liberty University EDUC 205-B02 Abstract This paper discusses the development of the Social Cognitive Theory and how it can be applied to education. When applied, this theory can help students stay motivated and focused in class. It can also help gifted learners reach their full potential in a diverse classroom. The Social Cognitive Theory was developed by Albert Bandura in the 1960s. This theory “stresses the idea that much human learning occurs in a social environment.” (Schunk 2012). For instance, if a basketball player wants to be able to improve his free-throw shot, he could do this by observing a coach, or other basketball expert, and imitate his or her free-throw shot. Initially, these principles were applied to social skills, but now can be “applied to the learning of cognitive, motor, social, and self-regulations skills.” (Schunk 2012). Through time, this theory was able to help give teachers the strategies to motivate and help their students reach their full potential. There are three basic conjectures when it comes to learning and behavior in this theory. The first is the idea of triadic reciprocality. This is the idea “that personal, behavioral, and environmental factors influence one another in a bidirectional, reciprocal fashion.” (Benzon, Denler & Wolters 2014). This means that a personals cognitive perspective is influenced by three different factors: behavioral, contextual and cognitive. The second conjecture...

2.4.2 Tactical Analysis

...Performance preparation. There are many requirements needed in football to play the game successfully. Many of these requirements are skill related, such as passing. There are also many physical requirements such as having good cardiovascular fitness. A requirement such as cardiovascular fitness is essential in football as the pitch is between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards in length (120m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m). And dependant on the position that performer could be running all over that pitch, for a long period of time. There are many requirements in my sport. Many of them are physical. Here is a list of all the physical components of my sport; * Speed- this is defined as the time taken to move a body part of whole through a movement over a pre- determined distance. In the position I play which is striker, you need speed to be able to get past defenders and to run and chase the ball if the midfielders pass the ball past the defenders. Although it is not just the strikers that use speed within the sport, it is utilized in every position. In general speed is used for chasing the ball down. It may not be physically running towards the ball, you may just be running back towards your own goal to defend it or in the opposite situation where the player could be running forward as quickly as he can to support the attackers. For example elite performers such as Luka Modric, who plays in midfield, have to utilize their speed...
