Hr Research Methods Summerpops

...HR Research Methods – Final Exam, Winter 2015 STUDENT NAME: Peter Stojanov SummerPops SummerPops is a Popsicle manufacturer based in Montreal, Quebec, and has been operating since its founding in 1919. SummerPops moved into a large manufacturing facility in southeast Montreal in 1925, and has stayed in the building (with renovations and upgrades) ever since. The facility contains 4 major sections critical to the success of the business: * traditional loading docks to receive incoming raw materials, notably sugar; * mixing vats, water pipes, and heaters to create the liquid solution for the popsicles; * large freezers, to cool the liquid solution and form the popsicles; and * cold loading docks, to move the frozen popsicles to freezer trucks for transportation to stores. SummerPops is a unique company, in that 5 months of the year (November to March), the entire production facility is shut down. SummerPops quickly discovered trying to maintain operations through the winter months was pointless, as few people bought their products during frigid Quebec winters. As such, these shutdown provisions mean that employees cling even harder to their unions and their seniority, in order to ensure they maintain predictable employment with the company when they start their jobs again each March. March represents the "start up" month, where the entire facility is de-winterized, cleaned, sterilized, and tested to ensure full operational capacity. Starting in April...

French vs American Education

Ensemble, chaque système a quelque chose magnifique.

Language Education in Nigeria

...| | | | | | | | | Language Education In Nigeria | | | LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: THEORY, POLICY AND PRACTICE | | INTRODUCTION Natural language has many unique properties among which is that it plays dual role in most known formal educational systems. Thus it features, on the one hand, as a subject on the school curriculum, and accordingly permits one to talk of Language Education in much the same way that one would talk of Physics Education, Science Education, Economics Education, etc. On the other hand and completely unlike any of the other subjects on the curriculum, it also serves all over the world as the medium of instruction in all subjects, including itself. This latter role of it is fully captured under the title of Language in Education. Thus, Language Education and Language in Education refer to the two distinct roles that natural language plays in Education. Only the former of these two roles will be touched upon in the present discussion. Early Efforts in Language Education Formal Western type education was introduced into the country by Christian Missionaries just before the middle of the nineteenth century. For about four decades after that initial date, both the nature and main thrust of Language Education in the country were completely left to those missionaries to decide (Taiwo 1980: 10 - 11; Fafunwa 1974:92). And given the well-known belief of most such missionaries, first, that the African child was best taught...

Maddie and Her Second Language

...Maddie and Her Second Language In schools around the world many young children have the opportunity to learn a second language. Some languages taught are: Spanish, French, German, Latin, and English. Even I studied Spanish in grades fourth through twelfth and it turn out to be a fun experience for me. But not every child enjoys learning a second language. Some kids may find it hard and confusing. There are many advantages and disadvantages for children who grow up learning a second language from a young age. If successful, learning a second language can lead to increased job opportunities when the children are older, or they can see it as a wasted of time if the child grew up learning the language, but never fully grasped it. This was the case with my little sister, Maddie, who’s older now but has been studying Spanish since she was in the first grade. She has faced many ups and downs when trying to learn this foreign language. This is her experience of studying Spanish as a second language. When Maddie started learning Spanish in the first grade it immediately affected how she performed in the rest of her subjects in school and in her other activities. The first disadvantage is that children may start to mix languages and get confused with the language structures. Children may start to use their native language and incorporate it into their second language. It seemed like for the longest Maddie had this problem, mixing up her languages especially when she talked. While she...
