...NHBR: 30 years and counting: Tyco scandal and its aftermath By Kenny, Jack Publication: New Hampshire Business Review Date: Friday, October 10 2008 No petty thieves, Tyco International Ltd. chief executive Dennis Kozlowski and chief financial officer Mark Swartz took over $170 millions in "loans" from the company without the shareholders knowledge. A Securities and Exchange Commission investigation in 2002 also found the pair had made more than $400 million in stock sales without disclosure. All told, losses from fraudulent practices were estimated at $600 million. Kozlowski and Swartz both resigned in the summer of 2002. On June 17, 2005, a Manhattan jury found both men guilty of stealing more than $150 million from Tyco, a conglomerate that at the time of the crimes was based in Exeter. Kozlowski, whose name will long be associated with the $6,000 shower curtain and a $2 million birthday party, obviously had big dreams and large ambitions. But he never imagined the kind of house he would be living in when he was interviewed by Morley Safer of CBS's 60 Minutes" in March of last year. "In my wildest imagination, when I would project myself into my late 50s and early 60s, where I would be or what I would be doing. If I make a list of a hundred different places, or a hundred different things, here would never make that list," Kozlowski told Safer. He was speaking from his residence at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in the state of New York. As "60 Minutes" noted...

...Relaxation Strategies: Benefits of Yoga and Meditation in Relation to Stress Katherine I. Sharp Nova Southeastern University Relaxation Strategies Stress is a condition in response to a physical threat or psychological distress that triggers the body’s adaptive stress response which involves the physiological arousal of various body systems that may suffer from negative consequences depending on the duration and course of the stress reaction. The result of such a response to stress is physiological support for the body’s fight-or-flight response that includes an increase in heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, and serum cholesterol (Greenberg, 2013). As a part of the adaptive response to stress, various body systems such as the autonomic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and immune systems may be affected (McEwen, Stellar, 1993). Research has shown that chronic stress is related to an increased risk of the development of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, coronary heart disease, tension headaches, migraine headaches, backache, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcers. “Given the negative impact of stress at intrapersonal and somatic level, it is important for healthcare professionals to master a repertoire of stress management techniques” (Varvogli, 2011, p. 75). Yoga Yoga is an old Indian practice that fosters mental and physical awareness creating a mind-body connection that allows one to engage in conscious breathing coupled with...

It is, accordingly, subjective and presumably both socially and culturally influenced. From a marketer’s perspective, this is a less than useful perspective, for beauty sells. A body of research suggests, for example, that physically attractive models used in advertising produce consumer expectations of accountability, dynamism and trustworthiness; therefore, marketers tend to use these models to enhance and strengthen the appeal of their advertisements and products (Atkin and Block 1983; Kamins and Gupta 1994). Physically attractive people are known to be perceived by consumers as friendly, warm, dominant, sociable, outgoing, responsive, and possessing both self-esteem and intelligence (Adams, 1977; Adams & Read, 1983; Berscheid & Walster, 1974; Bloch & Richins, 1992; Cann, Siegfried, & Pearce, 1981; Dion & Dion ,1987; Goldman & Lewis, 1977). Individuals favor and are favorably disposed towards physically attractive people...
