Friar Laurence is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is being ambitious, ignorant, and careless. To begin with, Friar Laurence tries convincing Romeo that the feud between their families will end if he marries Juliet. “ In one respect i’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households’ rancour to pure love” (2.3.93-95). This shows that Friar Laurence is guilty for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is persuading Romeo to marry Juliet in order to end the feud. If Friar would not have left Juliet in the tomb alone, she would not have been left to deal with her dead husband all on her own not knowing what had happened. There was also more types of danger that can come to leaving her alone but he does not care. Friar is being so selfish only caring about himself not getting caught. Instead of running away, he could have been there to prevent at least Juliet from killing herself. Lastly, Friar Laurence gives Juliet a potion that will make her fall asleep for days and seem dead. “ Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and distilled liquor drink thou off. When presently through all thy veins shall run a cold and drowsy rumour” (4.1.94-97). Friar Laurence is at the fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because if he would have never encouraged Juliet to take it, Romeo would have never think she was dead. First of all Romeo tells juliet he is willing to change his name in order to be with her. “I take thee at thy word… henceforth I never will be Romeo” (2.2.53-55). Romeo is being so obsessive with Juliet that he is willing to change, he knows they are not meant for each other and he is still trying to force it. He should accept it instead of trying to change his name for her. Romeo is going overboard and is not being realistically. He knows that there is a family feud going and that's why they can not be together. Him trying to change is being careless about his own family. Second of all, the death of Tybalt was the misleading event to everything. “Tybalt here slain, whom Romeo’s hand did slay” ( 3.1.156). The moment Romeo kills Tybalt changes everything because it causes him to be banished making it impossible for him to see Juliet. If Romeo was not gone, Juliet would never taken the potion and faked her death leading to her own and Romeo’s death. Romeo did not consider being married before taking the decision of killings his wife's cousin. Being selfish and only caring about himself dragged Romeo into being responsible for Juliet's and his own life. He also did not consider that he had a family he would be leaving behind if he was banished from Verona.
