Psyche Williams-Forson wrote Suckin’ the Chicken Bone Dry, arguing that food interactions and stereotypes are underpinned by variables such as gender, power, and history. Williams-Forson used personal experiences and observational evidence to relate the variables mentioned to real life; in this instance the relation between African Americans and fried chicken. Stereotypes are common in today’s society as well as countless years before today. Many African American’s were illiterate; as a consequence, white women would take advantage of that deficiency by claiming black women’s recipes as their own just like Marjorie Rawlings did in Cross Creek Cookery using Idella Parkers recipes (Williams-Forson 145). As I twirl the fork of noodles against the spoon, the expectation of silky smooth noodles gliding down my throat salivates the glands on my tongue.
