...Rodriguez 1 Octavio Rodriguez Professor Roberts English 110 November 09 2015 Public Transportation Is Important To A Community Public transportation is very important in a small community like Ottumwa, Iowa, especially bus stops. A small town needs all the support it can receive. A big boost of that support comes from bus stops. They allow for savings economically and delete any inconvenience of the citizens not having transportation to work. In order for any small community to be successful; there must be jobs and people willing to work. This is just a harsh reality of life. In Ottumwa, Iowa, there are plenty of people with work and plenty of people willing to work. There is only one problem that is restricting these motivated people from work. That is that there is very little public transportation. Some people need this in order to get from one place to another, especially if it is to their work. It is understood that we are living in an age that most people have vehicles; the key word there is "most." Not everyone has a vehicle that they are blessed with. In a mostly middle class and poor community that is notably true. From personal experience, living in Ottumwa for twelve years, I have seen that this is accurate. How does a community expect to strive in having a strong core if they cannot provide the simple use of public transportation? The amount of benefits that comes with building more bus stops in this town is extraordinary; to the point where it would not make...

...Frank Longoria History 40 Prof. Tellez 7/23/12 The article of Juan Soto, Desertion Handbill in his handbill (printed document) it seems as if Juan Soto is trying to get current Catholics of Irish, French and German men to not fight their own men of the same religion (the Mexicans) due to the rights that the Mexicans have in united states. Juan Soto is making his point by stating that any man who fights for liberty is not on the side of those who have differences in mankind and consider having slaves. Juan Soto also explains how the definition of liberty is not trying to be lord of the world and robbing properties and territories and killing people who get in the way of it. Also having to shed blood in order to get a point across to the people about religion. Juan Soto also explains how the Mexican people will stand up to this so called war on their own people and any American who tries to stop them will find a grave upon the land. Juan also tries to barter with the opposing Irish, French, and German army if they stand down and abandon their army the Mexican nation will honor them and they will be accepted among the Mexican community and be able to enjoy the Mexican fertile lands. At the end of the handbill Juan Soto states “Long live liberty!! Long live our holy Religion. Who is the author? The author is Juan Soto I will be honest I could not find any information about Juan Soto online nor in the library online. My guess is that he was a civilian and a man of the Catholic...

...The Descent of Inanna Excerpt translated by Diane Wolkstein and Samuel Noah Kramer, from “Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth: Her Stories and Hymns From Sumer”, Harper & Rowe, Publishers. From the Great Above she opened her ears to the Great Below. From the Great Above the goddess opened her ears to the Great Below. From the Great Above Inanna opened her ear to the Great Below. My lady abandoned heaven and earth to descend to the underworld. Inanna abandoned heaven and earth to descend to the underworld. She abandoned her office of holy priestess to descend to the underworld. In Uruk she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. In Badtibira she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. In Zabalam she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. In Nippur she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. In Kish she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. In Akkad she abandoned her temple to descend to the underworld. She gathered together the seven me. She took them into her hands. With the me in her possession, she prepared herself: She placed the sugurra, the crown of the steppe, on her head. She arranged the dark locks of hair across her forehead. She tied the small lapis beads around her neck, Let the double strand of beads fall to her breast, And wrapped the royal robe around her body. ...The Romans were one of the best builders and architects of their time._ One of their greatest feats is how they revolutionized transportation for the next hundreds of years._ The roads that they built were mainly made for the military, but eventually, they made transportations in the country so easy, that the public started to use it as well._ Although other countries (including Rome) had dirt pathways that they used, Rome made traveling easy by building it with a new method; there were four different layers in the roads, the first was hard stone, then they put in concrete, (another of Rome’s great accomplishments,) then the last layer was little pebbles or more medium-small rocks._ The idea spread so fast that many of them are still to be found from Carthage to Parthia, to Britain. These roads were built with such great quality that many of them are still being used today. _ While these roads were good transportation and the military, many people took these roads to see great fights and see man show their skills in the famous Roman coliseum._ The coliseum remains to this day one of the greatest architectural figures of all time._ This circle-shaped arena was home to thousands of fights and shows._ Gladiators would face each other or even animals and kill to the crowd’s delight._ The stadium was built at the beginning of emperor Vespasian’s reign, in 70 C.E._ It holds a amazing capacity of over 50,000 people._ The coliseum was attached to underground cages that would hold animals...

...Contextual Assessment of the D’Arcy Oil Concession The d’Arcy oil concession of 1901 in Persia (now Iran), represents a big moment in Middle Eastern politics and economics. The first oil concession in the region of the Middle East, this became the model for future concessions for the next half-century (Gelvin, 88, 172). In 1901, Mozaffar ad-Din, the Qajar Shah of Persia, sold the rights to exploring for, excavating, and selling oil for 60 years in all of Persia to a British investor, William Knox D’Arcy. For this, the Shah received £20,000 sterling cash, £20,000 sterling of shares of the company, and 16% of annual net profits (Gelvin, 174). Few parts of Persia were not included, like holy sites and some small, northern provinces (Gelvin, 173). This concession was a major factor in what led to modern day Iran. It highlights the unrest of the Persian people and the imperial struggle over Persia. Persians were growing dissatisfied with the Qajar rule. Influenced by western-oriented reformers, merchants, and religious leaders, they took to the streets in 1905. These protests and demonstrations would continue to 1911. The sources of their unrest came from the excesses of Qajar rulers, the weaknesses of the government, and foreign control over their economy. Also, the general consensus was that the Qajar rulers, especially Mozaffar ad-Din, were totally incompetent. These protests led to the Shah’s concession and Persia’s first constitutional monarchy. Because of the government’s...
