This investigatory project would not be possible without the people who guided and supported us while doing this activity. First, we would like to thank our parents who supported with us with the financial support that we need. Second, to our science teacher, Ms. Flora Andal who provided us with the ideas that we applied in our project. And most of all, we give our deepest gratitude to our God for He is the reason behind all these success.
Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the Study * We chose this project because it is simple yet very interesting. Based on our research, many had tried to do this activity. Some of them were successful while the others are not. Based on their opinions, they said that this project is simple but very helpful for the other people who suffers from brownouts. The thing that pushed us to choose this topic is because the Philippines is now suffering rotational brownouts due to the problems of the power plant. This vinegar battery can help the affected families have an alternative energy supply.
B. Statement of the problem/Objectives * This investigatory project aims to:
a. Use for alternative purposes especially when there’s no electricity.
b. Help other people have alternative batteries.
c. Let other people have idea that they can create a battery by using the vinegar they have in their house.
C. Hypothesis * Our group guess that this Vinegar Battery will surely help us when tradegy comes. Or in any other matters without using electricity. We also guess that our investigatory will work in terms of complete and perfect instructions. We are not that 100% sure if this will work but we are trying our best to make it to help all the Filipinos whenever there's no electricity. If our investigatory project really works, we all can have a alternative battery to use for emergency purposes.
D. Significance of the study * The vinegar battery is a kind of battery that is not composed of a lot of wirings, components, cadmium, positive and negative terminals. It is just made of a copper wire, vinegar, nails and ice tray. It is also very convenient. Even a 6 yr old child can make this at home. The vinegar battery is very useful especially during brownouts. It can serve as an alternative energy supply for the light bulbs. We can use this just for temporary lightning purposes. For example, if the supply of electricity is cut off and you need light, you can make a vinegar battery. The vinegar battery is an earth-friendly product. It is not made up of chemicals that can harm our environment. Unlike the Eveready, Energizer etc. when you dispose them in a wrong way, it can produce harmful substances that can affect us. With this vinegar battery, we can help to lessen the pollution of Mother Earth. It can also help to save and preserve our nature.
E. Scope and Delimitation of the study * This study is focus on the life of the vinegar battery. We will only test about the days that the vinegar battery will work. We will also cover on the volts that the vinegar battery can produce. The study will not cover about the other things that vinegar battery can supply energy with. We will only use a led light as a proof if the vinegar battery will work or not. We will also not focus about the other alternative battery that can be used other than the vinegar battery.
F. Definition of terms * Vinegar- a sour liquid that is used to flavor or preserve food or to clean things
* Battery-a device that is placed inside a machine to supply it with electricity
* Cadmium-a bluish-white metal that is used especially in protective coatings and in battery alternative- existing outside of the established society power
