For my antebellum cartoon, I chose Hoff & Bloed’s “Effects of the Fugitive-Slave-Law”. The Fugitive Slave Law (also known as the Fugitive Slave Act) was passed in 1850 as part of the compromise between slave owning states and non-slave owning states. This law granted slave owners permission to go through any means to find their runaway slave, even if the said slave is in a Free State. In this cartoon, the audience can notice four black men running away from a group of heated white men. This cartoon is a perfect representation of how it was like to live as a black individual during this time. The primary issue I believe this cartoon is focussing on is discrimination. According to pbs.org, “Blacks who had been living in freedom for years, were …show more content…
In this cartoon, you will see a group of people holding up a sign that reads, “I have a dream (act)” and directly in front of the groups stands a very angry woman yelling, “Not here you don’t!” DREAM act is an acronym for: Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act. The DREAM act was a bill that congress passed that granted certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as a child and attends school here. This bill sparked many peoples interested and has been a constant debate ever since it was passed. Former Sen. Rick Santorum, said, "Americans should be outraged that President Obama is planning to usurp the Constitutional authority of the United States Congress and grant amnesty by edict to 1 million illegal aliens," said King. However, Rahm Emanuel, says ”I applaud President Obama for making strides that will not only help the City of Chicago grow, but will give families and students across the country a better chance of achieving the American Dream.” This cartoon is a testimony to that. The main issue on this cartoon is also discrimination. Anyone who is a part of the Dreamers act, face major discrimination because of how controversial their issue

MADISON* ABSTRACT More than 150 years into development of the doctrineof "fairuse" in American copyright law, there is no end to legislative, judicial, and academic efforts to rationalizethe doctrine. Its codification in the 1976 CopyrightAct appearsto have contributedto its fragmentation, rather than to its coherence. As did much of copyright law, fair use originated as a judicially unacknowledged effort via the law to validate certain favored practicesand patterns. In the main, it has continued to be applied as such, though too often courts mask their implicit validation of these patterns in the now-conventional "caseby-case" application of the statutoryfair use "factors"to the defendant's use of the copyrighted work in question. A more explicit acknowledgment of the role of these patterns in fair use analysis would be consistent with fair use, copyright policy, and tradition. Importantly, such an acknowledgment would help to bridge the often difficult conceptual gap between fair use...
