...Funny Face by Rozanna Lilley – Poem Analysis Title: At first the title “Funny Face”, gives us the impression of a poem full of fun and humour. But after reading the poem, we get a totally different way of seeing the titel. We get a sens of the funny face being something the girls of the pageant put on to satisfying the judgeses and the mothers. It is the only way these young girls can stand to do the pageants for the sake of their mothers. Settings: Funny face mainly takes place in a place called Garden City, I think that Garden City is what they call a special place in their backyard, since it is called ‘Garden’ City, it a place where they come to have fun. It is what would be considered the perfect place to be, since everyone seem very happy, for instance “She said I was beautiful and my mother, laughing, agreed” they really seem to be having a great time in Garden City. The poem switches between several places, but the main story takes place in Garden City. They go from being in Garden city to a stage where the girl has to perform and put on her funny face. Narration: The poem is written with a first person narrator. The writer is a young girl who is being forced to enter this Beauty pageant. It is propebly the mother of the child who is making her go. She do not really want to go to these pageant and she does not like being there. The girl finds it very shallow and fake in some sort of way. Form and structure: In the poem there is five verses, the verses is...

...already, I can witness the different kind of gestures because most of my friends have so much energy that they move and express themselves a lot that it is very easy to detect their gestures. To be specific, we were in the campus in our favourite hang-out place: Student Lounge (Room 1132) chatting, fooling around and telling stories each other funny stories and if there is nothing new, tell recycled funny stories. We also do serious stuff such as teaching each other about school topics that one of us is struggling. The most obvious gesture that I witnessed is laughing which is an affect display of emotion motivated by fun. Laugh conveyed fun and happiness and familiarity with the person we are with which is why we laugh a lot when we are together. I can no longer count the times that my friends laugh since everybody was telling silly stories and making fun of each other. The second gesture I saw was a cross arm coming one of my female friends that we were making fun of. Again, this is an affective display of emotion but this time, it was motivated by disgust and being defensive because my friends were making fun of her. I only noticed this once followed by with her hands akimbo when she was about to asset her point. I only saw this once because my friends do not want to antagonize her further. I noticed that for young people like us, our adaptors come often...

...Imagine sitting on the subway watching a funny video on your brand new modular phone while a couple of onlookers standing in front of you also watch. Suddenly one of the onlookers bumps into the another. Each person exchanges an ugly look at each other and fists begin to be thrown. That is how the “LG G5: Jason Statham Commercial” starts. Another aspect of the commercial to note is that each character has Jason Statham’s face. The two fighting keep exchanging blows as they traverse through the subway up the stairs to the outside until eventually one of them hits a baby’s walker. The commercial moves on from the two fighting to a lady dancing outside a window while being recorded from a viewer inside. The waiter serving the person who is recording puts a pastry into a strange looking machine that not only ignites the pastry but also launches it through a glass; through the window’s glass; across the street while also igniting a motorcyclists back; and eventually hitting the window of a bank. This alerts the bank robber stealing from the bank and he lifts his mask up to reveal that it’s another Jason Statham. The bank robber begins to...

...Soup” Critical Analysis: Music and Mirrors What makes an action funny? Is it because there is a major consequence if a person messes up? Is it because the person has been hurt and not seriously? Or is it just the ridiculousness of the situation? These are questions that come up when anyone discusses humor. What exactly makes a situation funny is actually a combination of many factors. The truth is always easily mocked, which is why some comedy acts are so amusing. The Marx Brothers are very capable of doing Everyone has seen the big fuss that is put together whenever a visiting dignitary visits the United States. It is always so formal and stiff. The Marx Brothers turn this whole affair on its head. First, they mock the entrance of the man of honor. In real life the person is on time and makes a stately entrance. Although there is fanfare to welcome Groucho, the man himself is late. He enters, via fireman's pole, and asks what's going on. Then he proceeds to insult everyone there. Usually a real president makes some long-winded speech about how he is going to turn the country around, and rattles off a list of everything he's going to do. Groucho breaks into song about how he's going to completely make everyone's lives miserable. Everyone agrees to what Groucho's planning to do by singing back the lines he just said. This is a great way of poking fun at the government, since half the time it really can't keep every promise...

...Thinky Pain 750 The main risk that he’s taking, which I’m not even sure if he was serious, is that he said he didn’t really prepare for this stand up as much as he should have. He seems to be pretty creative so it makes sense that he might feel that he doesn’t need to prepare since he can bullshit the entire thing. Another thing that he does is he makes this stand up take in a very small venue. I feel that he wants to make the whole situation more intimate than other comedians normally do. He also didn’t make fun of the audience as many comedians do. This is usually an easy tactic used by the comedian to break the ice, but he seems to stray away from that tactic in this stand up. He also took a risk talking about the emotional topic regarding the ‘fatty marc’ baseball game. It’s hard to talk about topics like this because you never know if the audience will take it the same way each time. Plus, personal stories don’t always come off as funny to the audience unless you make them feel like they were there and included in the actual story. He makes himself vulnerable by performing in such an intimate location. He’s on a small stage in front of a small crowd. He also makes himself vulnerable by taking these specific risks that I talked about in the previous paragraph. He talks about specific stories in his life that make himself vulnerable because the audience can take his story however they want. They might not see the story the same way that Mark does. At the beginning...

However, when I talked with my father, he realized that, he told me to be stronger, he can share everything with me, and I should stop to share. Why he can know that? I also asked this question with him when I was young. He told me because he is a Buddha therefore he can know all things about me, but now I know the real reason. ...Why do we laugh? Have you ever tried wetting your trousers out of laughing too much? or had a hard time breathing because something was way too funny? Most people know the feeling, but maybe you too have tried cutting it short, when you had to explain what it actually was, that was so funny. "What is humour really, and why do you laugh, when you hear something funny?" What are we laughing at, what happens in the brain when we do, and why do we do it? That is what we will dive into by consulting a rhetorican, a philosofer, and a neurobiologist. The humour starts in our minds. Humour starts with a funny thought in our minds. Therefore, the first thing we will do is look into the physiological explaination behind the humour - that means looking into what happens in our brain, when we are laughing. Neurobioligist Albert Gjedde, tells us that the physiology behind the humour, has been looked into several times: "There has been made brain scans of people laughing, and of people hearing others laugh," says Albert Gjedde. "These scans have shown different areas of the brain, which are active, especially areas that become very active, when we experience emotional reactions."... When we laugh, a number of different substances are activated in those areas of the brain, but as far as we know all of these substances can be traced back to one specific substance, the so-called "substance of happiness", Dopamine. Dopamine works like a motivator for people, because it can release...

...Kyra Brown Improv 5/8/15 Final Paper Wow, I find it unbelievable that Improv is coming to a close for the semester. It still feels as if we’ve only gotten through the first month of classes. Initially when I took improve I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t necessarily excited for Improv but I wasn’t unhappy to take it either. The first time I actually took Improv was when I was 16. I was in summer acting conservatory for NYC kids at Sarah Lawrence College and we had Improv every single day for several hours. It was so much fun and I found that I excelled at it. I was able to think quickly on my feet and create a piece with my partner in the exercise that was funny, flowed well and was easy to follow however, that was when I was 16. Now as a 19-year-old college student who hadn’t studied improve for several years, I was a little nervous. Its one thing to study Improv for a month straight and another, to take it as a college course. I was worried that maybe I might suck. Fear grew bigger and bigger inside the pit of my belly the beginning of the semester. As my fear grew bigger my patience grew less. I didn’t realize that many improve 1 students are freshman and although I was just a freshman myself last year, I could see the major difference in discipline between the two. I use to get irritated due to the lop-sided circle, the struggle to get through the warm-up games or the excessive side conversations. I didn’t feel connected to my ensemble and...

The Joker looks at him “Eventually.” “What are you waiting for?” the President hesitantly asks. “An old...

...Rash, by Pete Hautman, is about polar bears, pizza, artificial intelligence, mass hysteria, football, head transplants, and a talking monkey. It takes place about seventy years in the future when everything fun is against the law. You can get sent to jail for road rage, or eating too much, or forgetting to wear your safety equipment. Twenty percent of the people living in the United Safer States of America are in jail, so all the manual labor in the country is done by prisoners. I thought this was a sports book when I picked it up because of the cover, but it’s more like science fiction. Some parts are pretty funny, but it’s also kind of sad because the future looks like it could be no fun at all, kind of like that book Feed, which is good too, only by some other guy with initials instead of a first name. Bo Marsten, the hero, is in love with this girl, and when she goes out with another guy he loses it and tries to hit the other guy and ends up in prison in Canada making pizzas for McDonalds and being chased by polar bears and playing tackle football which is illegal because everything that can possibly hurt anybody is against the law. Bo has only two friends--a talking troll he invented on his computer for his AI class, and an unstoppable fat kid named Rhino. It sounds goofy, but it all makes sense when you read it, except for maybe the part about the mechanical dog that does everything a real dog does including pooping. The funniest parts of the book are when Bo talks...
