When a company wants to move ahead in their industry they must try to stay ahead of the curve. State of the art technology from the 80s will not make a business successful today. At FedEx Office it is a goal to always be ahead of the industry and stay on top of the copy and print world. A new service they have rolled out is called “Print and Go” which utilizes the trend of digital media and common files to make getting the product to the customer instantly. A customer can walk into the center, walk straight up to the copier, plug in a flash drive and print a file out for the price of regular copies without having to wait in lines or a Team Member to assist. The following the steps the FedEx Office took to successfully plan, organize, lead and control this new process. The planning phase consists of “systematically making decisions about the goals and activities that an individual, a group, a work unit, or the overall organization will pursue” (Bateman & Snell, 2009, pp. 19). In this process, FedEx Office analyzed how the trends of the market were going to flash drives as a way of transferring print files from their office to the store for production. They sought a way to relieve the stress on the customer of waiting in line, telling the team member which file it was, how they wanted it printed, how many they wanted, and so on about the file. They decided they would create this process of “Print and Go” to make the customers experience quick and effortless. The organizing phase is “assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2009, pp. 20). In this phase, FedEx Office developed a new reader that could be attached to the copiers with a USB port and a screen to preview the files and options for printing.
