Abstract
Fundraising for not for profit organizations was researched to better understand the fundamentals of fundraising. This research describes reasons why a not for profit should fundraise. It also provides answers to questions about how to approach donors, and how to increase your list of donors to better fund your organization. The research also describes how to better your relationship with donors, so you can meet their needs as they are meeting yours. The donor needs to know that they can measure what they have donated. This paper also identifies with how the donor expects his funds to be used, and how to communicate what you have done with their donation. Research also unveils the aspect of using direct mailers, how to get the attention of your donor as well as how to ask for the donation. Finally, the research touches base on how the downturn of this economy has affected fundraising, and what organizations can do to help better position themselves.

Fundraising is essential for any not for profit organization to exist. Questions about why an organization must fundraise will be answered. Also, we will learn about donors and how to ask for the donation. This paper will also explore the two separate avenues to use to better market a not for profit. Finally, how to maintain your organizations fundraising needs during an economic downturn will be discussed.
Why must one fundraise? Understanding why one needs to fundraise and for what purpose, is critical for the success of the organization. Knowing the mission of the organization and committing to its purpose is the difference between effective results and failure. Not for profit organizations are limited to a specific capacity financially, so fundraising are vital to the organizations success.
You must know and understand what the operating expenses are and also be able to convey how any
