...Future Focus Future Focus (FF) had been running a small, for-profit preschool program for young children between the ages of two and four for several decades. FF was one of several privately run programs in the suburban Boston area. For each of the three age groups (i.e., two-, three- and four- year olds), there were two classes per day for a total of six classes in the facility each day. The classes were held both in the morning and in the afternoon, five days a week between September and June; there were approximately 200 days (40 weeks), or 1,200 class meetings, per year. Only about one- third of FF's local competitors offered classes during the summer months. The morning classes ran from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and the afternoon meetings ran from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lunch was not served in either class. However, each class served a snack to the children. Class size varied from nine to 15 students per class. Although there was a lot of pressure from parents to reduce class sizes, a recent article in an industry newsletter showed that, given current demographics, the market for such programs could increase by 10% a year for the next five years. The year before, a parent suggested that the school begin hosting birthday parties on the weekend. Since FF's three classrooms were empty during this time, it seemed like a good use of the space and could generate additional revenue. Over the past year, the school had managed to quickly build a sizable side business...

...Organizational Focus and Goals HRM/326 Organizational Focus and Goals Every organization has a unique set of goals that influence its overall culture. In my case, I work for a company that was recently formed in 2010 and they are working towards establishing firm corporate values. As the company grows and hires new employees, it will have a profound impact on culture. Therefore, the company will need to be very agile and adaptable when it comes to an organizational focus. The goal of this paper is to analyze the employee training needs of my company and determine the implications of overachieving these goals. Because the company has limited financial resources, it will need to keep careful balance between employee development and profitability. Organization’s Current Focus and Overarching Goals The overall focus of my organization is to the future considering that we made it through the first two years, and the future is to get more of the market share not by lowering pricing but to show better customer service and improve are ordering processes. My organization is focusing on educating, developing, to be able to grow the company in all aspects of business, but most of all is to enhance the customer experience and how we order product and what should be kept in stock at all times which will help us grow and evolve. ...F ACTSHEET Performance Discussions A performance discussion is the process that takes place between an employee and their supervisor to develop and review the employee’s work goals and identify development needs to support the achievement of their goals. These discussions are a fundamental tool for building and managing performance. The form and focus of the discussions vary according to the stage of the performance management cycle, but the principles remain the same. There should be at least one discussion to develop an employee’s performance plan, and at least one – but preferably two or three – discussions to review employee achievements. ...The Petal Diagram I’ve always thought of my startups as the center of the universe. So I would begin by putting my company in the center of the slide. In this example the startup is creating a new category – a lifelong learning network for entrepreneurs. To indicate where their customers for this new market would come from, they drew the 5 adjacent market segments: corporate, higher education, startup ecosystem, institutions, and adult learning skills that they believed their future customers were in today. So to illustrate this they drew these adjacent markets as a cloud surrounding their company. (Unlike the traditional X/Y graph you can draw as many adjacent market segments as you’d like.) Steve Blank Your startup at the center Then they filled in the market spaces with the names of the companies that are representative players in each of the adjacent markets. Ads not by this site Steve Blank Fill in the segments Then they annotated the private companies with the amount of private capital they had raised. This lets potential investors understand that other investors were interested in the space and thought it was important enough to invest. (And plays on the “no VC wants to miss a hot space” mindset.) Steve Blank Show capital raised Finally, you could show the current and projected market sizes of the adjacent markets, which allows the startups to have a “how big can our new market be?” conversation with investors. (If you wanted to get fancy, you could scale...

...The main focus of this article was on two different types of cheating. The 2 types were planned cheating and the panic cheating; they compared and tested both in online learning and Traditional classroom setting. They also listed the differences between the online classroom and the traditional classroom. The steps one would take to prevent planned cheating are to have more confidence in oneself when writing papers, also having enough time to complete the assignments on time. As for steps for the panic cheating it was concluded that this form of cheating did exist in online learning as this practice is more reserved for the classroom setting For the second article I used academic honesty as the keyword in my article search. The title of the second article was: The culture of cheating: from the classroom to the exam room. The authors were Danielsen RD; Simon AF; Pavlick R. This article was published in March of 2006. ...who are determined and motivated to continue their studies despite of their undesirable situation. They are trying hard in their studies for them to avail scholarships available in different colleges and universities programmed for deserving students but others unluckily did not avail due to limited slots given. How these students continue with their quest living with quality of life? Are there any options available for them? The most common phrase we heard from common people is: we can continue with our studies later but this time we have to work first, let’s be practical. The focus of today’s students is to enroll for one or two years then apply for work because the minimum requirements is college level but soon they will realize how important is education and most probably the realization came in late of their lives, that’s the real thing. People spend too much in shorter plans and they did not focus on the longer one. Parents also lacks of motivation for them to encourage their students to continue. Why?... because they didn’t have it during their time. So, this time what can we do to resolve this kind of situation? What if there are lots of students who are determined to pursue their dreams. Can they sustain their studies until they have it? It has been observed here in Consolacion Community College since its opening on 2010 that there are lots of students who are poor but deserving students who are willing to...

...Methods of the Ssu-Ma (author unknown) both focus a lot on a sort of “code” for warriors during warfare. My question is what is the best way to raise troops? These two readings explain different answers to my question, but to answer it myself I would say the best way to raise troops would be to not focus solely on things such as strength or marksmanship, but to focus also on the mindset of a troop and how to pull through in times of difficulty and how to respect warfare and their unit and how to face fear and overcome obstacles. Taira Shigesuke writes about how, first and foremost, a warrior should consider it his first concern to keep death in mind at all times. But you don’t just have a duty to the military; you have to fulfill your loyalty to your family as well. Unlike the warrior ways described in the Ssu-Ma, Samurai warriors focused day and night on their duties as a warrior, whether they were a farmer, or merchant, etc. They always carried a sword with them as to always be prepared and keep death in mind at all times. Education was not important early on, and even 12 and 13 year olds were learning martial arts instead of focusing on becoming literate. Their sole focus was the way of a warrior. Now, however, those born in the present era focus on literature and reading and writing from the time they are seven or eight in times of peace. A big difference between the Ssu-Ma and the code of the Samurai is how much the Samurai focus on their familial duties. They are taught...

...with authority, there could be many challenges. Challenges refer to some different thoughts which are happened between the superiors and the subordinates. The dilemma is whether do as what the boss told or follow the original heart. This dilemma is the main focus of Tom and Frank’s case study, ‘Challenge the boss or stand down?’ (2011). ‘Challenge the boss or stand down?’ concerns a general issue in the company D7 Displays. A rising star Tom challenged his new boss Frank in the public, and they have different opinions. Tom is facing the dilemma which may lose his job, and he has to choose a better method to solve this issue. As a diligent employee, Tom wants to do his best and gain reliance from his boss. He argues that the airline kiosk business is hurting by the web service and the only way to compete is developing the kiosk-based services which could make profit or provide more benefits. However, Frank, who is his new boss, is firmly holding the different opinion. Frank points out that the airline kiosk business presents a mature market and clients will not resign it. In addition, the hotels and car rental markets are wide open, and the company should develop these areas. Frank asserts that Tom was out of line and focus on the part not belongs to him. Advice about this dilemma is given by two experts, Jeffrey Pfeffer, a professor from Stanford University and Paul Falcone, president of human resources at Time Warner Cable. Both of these experts consider that Tom should...

...accumulated overtime (mostly through habit), in part two, (here on working with a ‘liberated’ voice); to go through a developmental process which focuses on range and power (viz. the ‘resonating ladder’), in part three; to turn focus to the breathing apparatus and thereby develop an awareness and sensitivity to different ‘areas of breath’ in the body and, in part four; to bridge the connection of this work to text and acting. Through this approach, Linklater states that the general aim of the book is to “present a lucid view of the voice in the general context of human communication and to provide a series of exercises to free, develop and strengthen the voice – first as a human instrument, then as the human actor’s instrument” (Linklater, p 1). This essay will summarize some of the major points of the book, offer briefs descriptions of some of the exercises and determine whether this book could be useful to the aspiring actor who is interested in learning more about the craft of voice and speech. Linklater claims that the particular approach of this book is something that has evolved over a number of years and is largely the result of the work of Iris Warren; a pioneer in the science of voice production because of his emphasis on turning the focus of voice work from external physiological knowledge to internal psychological understanding. Though heavily influenced by Warren, Linklater’s book also draws...
