...Essay about the short story A Gap of Sky By Anne Hope, 2008 The short story A Gab of Sky reflects on the topic of youth. It deals with the problems and possibilities of being young while living in central London. It is in the youth a person is able to create his or hers own personality and figure out how they want to spend their lives. It is also during the youth a person can truly be free to do, feel and think about whatever they wish, without having to deal with the obligations and responsibilities that follows being an adult just yet. The short story was written with a third person narrator, but the reader follows Ellie throughout the story, and we hear about her thoughts and actions. Being able to know how she thinks, gives the reader an insight in how she sees and experiences the world that surrounds her. Also the story is given an extra edge because the tone of the short story is influenced by Ellie’s vocabulary, which isn’t exactly a nice one: “Fuuuuuuck (…) Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit” (l. 12-13). This also gives a presentation of who Ellie is as a person, and what the area, she lives in, is like. The main character in the short story is Ellie. She is nineteen years old, and lives in something like a student hall in London. She is studying, but not because she really wants to. She stays up late to party and skips school in the mornings. Her last change for staying on the “bloody course” (l. 66), as she calls it, is to turn in the essay due to the...

...Dismuke 1 Charles Dismuke Ms. Lopez English II 5 April 2016 Disillusionment and failure in The Great Gatsby In the book The Great Gatsby, author F. Scott Fitzgerald uses the theme of disillusionment, love, lust and failure in order to portray the “American dream”. The American dream is the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. Many believe that the American dream is “earned”, but what they don't know is that there is a lot of “behind the scenes” money making deals that occur. And these deals put you at the top without even asking. For example Gatsby wasn't the perfect man that he was imagined to be. Jay Gatsby's real name was, James Gatz and the change seemed right when he “reinvented” himself. Gatsby didn't like being the son of farmers and was embarrassed about where he was from. “His imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all.” He changed it at the age of 17 because of his transformation when he met Dan Cody. This one of the main reasons he hid his background from people. The other was that in reality Gatsby was indeed an unrepentant criminal, who bootlegged his way through the Prohibition to create his wealth and pursue his dream. The prohibition was a nationwide constitutional ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages that remained in place from 1920 to 1933...

...and I was hanging out with a gang, this is no good life for a fifteen year old boy, so I backed away from a life of crime and won a sports scholarship to the university of Texas. Today I am an economics professor at Harvard university, and I did not die before turning thirty. So the questions we need to ask is, why are African-Americans so much less prosperous than whites? Why do so many black children fail at school? And why do so many black men end behind bars? Do racial discrimination still exists? There have been some improvements through time the median black household income has risen from $22.300(in 2006 currency) in 1967 to $32.100 that is an improvement of 44 percent, but there is still a gab between blacks and whites, and this gab has existed since the late 80´s, and the gab has more or less frozen since then. Blacks’ median household income is still only 63 percent of whites. Blacks die, on average, five years earlier than whites. And academically, black children at 17 perform no better than whites at 13. People say that I am obsessed with education, that may be truth, but the fact is that a lot black children do not have the abilities to finish high school, and since this generation is our country next leaders, we need to prevent this from happening. I would say that education is the civil-rights battleground of the 21st century, so why do blacks lag behind in school? I have tested the most taboo proposition, are blacks genetically predisposed to be less intelligent...

Ellie is parties all nights with some friends. In these parties Ellie and her friends take several drugs. Because of these parties and drugs and the alcohol, Ellie is having trouble getting up of her bed and do her assignments. Because she knows there will be consequences if Ellie does not make her assignments. “She needs to get some printer ink, if she's going to do this essay. And if not? Ellie comes sometimes to the thought that she can’t do the assignment or get printer ink. And when these thought crosses her head, she is fading, getting grey. Jahrhunderts. Aus den vier Kolonien Nueva Espana (Mittelamerika, Karibik und Florida), Nueva Granada (Kolumbien, Venezuela und Ecuador), Peru (Peru und Bolivien) und La Plata (Argentinien, Chile, Paraguay und Urugay) kamen zahlreiche...

...Your CEO has asked you to do some high-level planning during your project initiation. What are some of the things that the project manager should provide to support this request? Do you consider this a wise request considering you are just initiating your project? Why or Why not? By Nana Kwabena Agyemang One of the major sources of project failure is a lack of a well-defined and formalized project initiation process which includes poor planning and poor quality requirements specification. As matter of fact, poor project planning is really common in most project initiations. Right from the project initiation, if the initial stages contains any issues it can carry on throughout the project life-cycle and the results of this is clear, project failure. This is why as a PM, you should be able to involve or bring together each and every stakeholder during project initiation to help curb out any doubts and resolve any issue before the start of the project. This initiation stage is very important because it is vital for the team who will deliver the product, for those who’s going to be the final user of the product, and for the stakeholders in the project to come into agreement on the project initiation. The PM should define the project initiation stage to include the following: * Creation of a Product Description Statement: This should be a high-level and informal, statement that will help describe the very nature or characteristics of the product or process that’s going to...
