Dive deep into Luma’s life, in this book readers will get a sense of Luma’s generosity and aspiring outlook on often neglected people of society . In Outcasts United by Warren St. John, Luma is a young woman facing tragedy in the midst of civil war in Jordan, Africa. Fortunately, she is able to escape to the United States via a relocation program. Although she is now in the U.S., Luma recognizes that many of the refugee’s problems are not yet over. In order to keep the male refugees from joining gangs, Luma creates a soccer team called the “Fugees”. In this book the author brings light to a part of America that is rarely discussed. Gang violence is a big problem in America, and one of the ways to diminish this issue is to create opportunities for young adults to build quality relationships in the form of community activities.…show more content… This is exactly the action Luma was trying to prevent.
