Being away from the family, the loss of culture and its old teachings has given Garnet a chance to find his own roots through the help of friends that Garnet met along the way. Garnet spends time at the White Dog Reservation, and this gave him confidence. With the help of Keeper, Garnet is being taught how it is like to be included of the Ojibway culture for the first time. Garnet does not know how it is like to be Indian, and felt disconnected with his family and culture; “Everybody be needin’ family! … you know, I hearda this guy running around tryin to tell folks he Hawaiian?
