When the accusation of rape arose, it is safe to say that a degree of white privilege was in play. It is important to note that others still regarded Denny as guilty rather than “innocent until proven guilty”, though one can speculate how much worse the case would be if he was African American. People may judge the accusation as a representation of the whole race, rather than of individual character and morals. People judged Denny on an individual level, and not as a representation of the white race. In addition, there may have been more barriers, such as finding an adequate place to live when he had to sell his house or getting loans (McIntosh, 1989). It would be privilege; norm of rightness. Growing up in a traditional Asian household, I used to view homosexuality as a sin. ...Garth Stein, the well known author of “The Art of Racing in the Rain” has taught readers across the country various life lessons that are valued deeply through his writings. One passage in particular that Stein had triumphed to leave me dumb-founded by was just a seemingly simple concept that potentially holds much truth to it. “That which we manifest is before us; we are the creators of our own destiny.
