...10/21/14 Journal 2 In the article, “TV News and White Voices”, the author’s key claims are about the misguided War in Gaza, and the only two Western doctors that managed to enter Gaza. These two doctors were interviewed plenteously and had swayed the public opinion of the war. “They described Israel as a brutal aggressor collectively punishing the entire Palestinian population in Gaza of 1.5 million people, murdering innocent civilians, violating international law and committing war crimes.” The author wanted to know if these reporters were bias and the credibility of their sources. The Israeli newscast had reported a couple of hundreds of Palestinian deaths when there was actually thousands. Israel had a “media blockade” to influence the public view of the war. The author issues a key statement when he says that “source credibility is often a decisive component in assessing whether reporting is truthful, impartial and accurate, and can be decisive for the formation of public opinion.” I think that using these two doctors as sources to the journalists is exceptionally credible to the public. It was vital that there were two foreigners inside the Gaza Strip to affirm the state of the conflict because the opinion of the Arabs did not matter to much of the people. Anyone can convey now that Israel used extreme cruelty & violence against the Palestinians but the same could not be said at the time of the war. The Norwegian authors of the article wrote it to explain to us how...

...Palestine (Arabic: فلسطين Filasṭīn, Falasṭīn, Filisṭīn; Greek: Παλαιστίνη, Palaistinē; Latin: Palaestina; Hebrew: פלשתינה Palestina) is a geographic region in Western Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. It is sometimes considered to include adjoining territories. The name was used by Ancient Greek writers, and was later used for the Roman province Syria Palaestina, the Byzantine Palaestina Prima and the Umayyad and Abbasid province of Jund Filastin. The region is also known as the Land of Israel (Hebrew: ארץ־ישראל Eretz-Yisra'el),[1] the Holy Land, the Southern Levant,[2] Cisjordan, and historically has been known by other names including Canaan, Southern Syria and Jerusalem. Situated at a strategic location between Egypt, Syria and Arabia, and the birthplace of Judaism and Christianity, the region has a long and tumultuous history as a crossroads for religion, culture, commerce, and politics. The region has been controlled by numerous different peoples, including Ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, the Sunni Arab Caliphates, the Shia Fatimid Caliphate, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mameluks, Ottomans, the British and modern Israelis and Palestinians. Boundaries of the region have changed throughout history, and were last defined in modern times by the Franco-British boundary agreement (1920) and the Transjordan memorandum of 16 September 1922, during the mandate period.[3] Today, the...

...Wales University Providence, Rhode Island Feinstein Graduate School WHITEPAPER “The Port Development of Gaza” A Written Paper Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the MBA Degree Course: Global Economic Environments-IBUS 5511 Qiong WU 12/11/13 INTRODUCTION My name is Qiong Wu, and I am a consultant of international trade and safety in Gaza. My job is controlling the maritime passage into and out of Gaza thus allowing the safe transport of goods to and from the rest of the world, finding problems and offering solutions to improve the situations there. The purpose of this document is to provide my solutions for the port development of Gaza. Gaza needs to create a new policy to suit the changing global environment that will protect the safety of people’s lives as well as boost Gaza’s economy. BACKGROUND 1. Political Environment Gaza has very long history in the world, and it is also a place that suffered a lot. It has been ruled by both Egypt and Israel and is beloved by neither, which is a problem for all. Gazans are emphatically Palestinian, a national identity forged from the trauma of losing their land to Jewish armies in 1948, the year Israel was established. Many defeated Arab landowners fled to Gaza, where 3 out of 4 residents are classified as refugees. The Jews initially made no claim to Gaza, and the strip of coast became a holding pen administered by Egypt's military. The West Bank was annexed by Jordan...

"Poverty is defined as the state or condition of having little or no money, goods or means of support (Poverty)." Many around the world ask the constant question of why we should care about developing the world. The connectedness of the world shows when problems arise in other countries it has the abilities to affect us and their allies. The paper will look into the underdevelopment of Gaza by identifying the weak institutions that make it so difficult to advance development, analyze the specific actions that the leadership of Gaza has taken and discuss whether or not the state's private institutions are working to improve development in Gaza. Gaza is the developing country I chose to further research about developing countries and citizens and governments way of life. Gaza is located in the country of Israel on the west coast called the Gaza Strip along the Mediterranean Sea northeast of Sinai Peninsula. South Sudan Topic Background It has been slightly over three years since this fledgling nation seceded from Sudan in July 2011. Now the country is fraught with a major political upheaval, a debilitating famine, a declining economy, and an impending civil war ripe with ethnic tension. The South Sudanese political and social schism erupted after President Salva Kiir began to crackdown on the supporters of his rival, former Vice President Riek Machard. Mr. Machard attempted a coup to overthrow the President shortly after Mr. Kiir dismissed the entirety of his government due to suspicion that they were plotting to overthrow his regime. The conflict boiled over and turned violent between the feuding army factions on December 15th 2013. The political struggle between these two factions quickly escalated into a full-scale ethnic conflict and has created a violent schism within...

...Palestine has been recognized as a common ground for the constant and continuous conflict between the Jewish and Arabic communities. Through these situations, outer forces, such as Britain, have attempted avaricious approaches to the predicament, which ultimately led to the eruption between the two parties[1]. Beginning with World War 1, The Sykes-Picot Agreement, and the Arabs, following through to The Balfour Declaration with the Jews, showed that the respective parties were forced to rely on outside forces to help mend their broken hearts full of nationalism and possession[2]. It is safe to say that these two breeds of strong-hearted individuals made an impact in more places than Palestine itself. With Britain’s reign over the land, it was the duty of the Arabs and the Jews to get along with one another as best as they could, provided that Britain would give each party what they were owed[3]. Britain and The Balfour Declaration contradicted the original deal during World War 1 between Britain and the Arab community, sparking the conflict between the Arabs and the Jews, which, to this day, made living in Palestine a hostile and challenging place to call ‘home’. The Balfour Declaration, created in 1917, revealed the British offering Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people[4]. For the Jews, this meant that they would finally be able to have what is rightfully their own. Israel is the birthplace of the Jewish community, and living on the land where their story began has been...

...Islamic University- Gaza Dean of Postgraduates Studies Faculty of Commerce Business Administration Department The Relationship between Leader-Member Exchange and Resistance to Change in Organizations: A case study on Mercy Corps (INGO) By Hazar Jaber Supervisor Dr. Sami Abou-Al-Ross A dissertation plan submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Business Administration Dec 2014 * Introduction Many research studies have shown that leaders have a strong effect on their subordinates’ behavior and attitudes (Van Dam, Oreg & Schyns, 2008). This relationship is often referred to as the Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) relationship, which demonstrates the relationship between supervisor and subordinate during their work (Gerstner & Day, 1997; Liden & Maslyn, 1998). Practically speaking, many of organizational change programs fail because of employees’ resistance to change and management approaches that neglect the human dimensions during change (Bovey & Hede, 2001). In other words, the quality of LMX relationships affects employees’ resistance to the change (Van Dam et al., 2008). However, resistance to change is an important component through organizational changes since it has consequences such as decreasing employee’ satisfaction, output, absenteeism and turnover rates (Van Dam et al., 2008). In this context, many of previous research studies examined the way in which employees deal with organizational...

...Issue of Cease-fire between Israel and Hamas not likely to be Resolved International Community has urged Israel to not wage a ground war against Palestine but on Sunday, July 13th Israel has launched a ground attack in which around 18 members of the a family dies. The incursion by Israel was centred to the site from where Hamas, The Sunni Islamist Group in Gaza Strip was launching its long ranged rockets targeted to the Israel. Israel and Hamas indulged in a fight since few weeks, till now Hamas was using rockets to attack Israel and in counter Israel was using airstrikes but now as the situation become severe Israel has took the route of incursion from ground. Restoration of Cease-fire between Israel and Gaza Strip has been issue of discussion among many regional as well as international players. Quartet on Middle East named Group has been established in 2002 to mediate the peace talks in between Israel and Palestine, four member entities of this group are United States, Russia, European Union and United Nations. Special Envoy of the group, Tony Blair visited Cairo in Egypt regarding the issue and had a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to facilitate peace talk between Israel and Hamas so that a cease-fire can be restored between them. But as the sources revealed efforts to stop the conflict are going in vain because Hamas has asserted that there is no possibility of peace now and the Islamist group won’t become the part of any truce. As no international player is actually...

...During the lecture we discussed how the Hamas ruled Gaza in the first place and what really triggered the war and tension between them and Fatah. We viewed a short video of the location of Gaza. Gaza is a Palestinian region on the Mediterranean sea that borders Egypt and Israel. Gaza is populated with the estimate of 1.8 million people. The Hamas were founded in 1987 as Palestinian branch of the Egyptian Muslim brotherhood. After the death of the PLO leaser in 2004 Hamas began to gain more politics ground. In 2006 Hamas won the Palestinian elections against the Fatah. Hamas won 76 seats in the Parliament compared to Fatah. Because Hamas won the election there was a long tension between them and Fatah leading to a dividing government. There was an attempt to unite them to but unfortunately failed. From 2006-2007 there was a civil war in a way between Fatah and Hamas and eventually the Fatah’s were driven out. This is said to be a preemptive cue of the Hamas because Fatah has plans to run the Hamas out as well. However Hamas found and took action first leading to the full control of Gaza. Hamas was then seen as the terrorist organization to Israel, US, and Canada. Eventually there was a blockade from Israel and Egypt. What seemed to have caused the war was the kidnapping and murder of the three Israeli teenagers. Israel blamed it on the Hamas, which they denied. Come to find out the murder was by a Palestine clan from the Hamas. Israel used that reason to literally do a sweep...
