................................................13 Executive Summary The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is the foundation of the GS1 System (formerly the EAN.UCC System) for uniquely identifying trade items, which includes both products and services that are sold, delivered, and invoiced at any point in the supply chain. GTINs provide unique identification worldwide. The GTIN is encountered most frequently at point of sale and on cases and pallets of products in a distribution/warehouse environment. GTINs can be encoded into various types of GS1 bar codes and Electronic Product Codes™ (EPC) which are programmed into Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. The GTIN is a required component of the Global Data Synchronization Network™ (GDSN™) and various types of e-commerce transactions. They are most...

...N O V E M B E R 2 0 11 1 Inside P&G’s digital revolution CEO Robert McDonald wants to make the consumer goods giant the world’s most technologically enabled company. Here’s how. Robert McDonald is a CEO on a mission: to make Procter & Gamble the most technologically enabled business in the world. To get there, the 31-year company veteran and former US Army captain is overseeing the large-scale application of digital technology and advanced analytics across every aspect of P&G’s operations and activities—from the way the consumer goods giant creates molecules in its R&D labs to how it maintains relationships with retailers, manufactures products, builds brands, and interacts with customers. The prize: better innovation, higher productivity, lower costs, and the promise of faster growth. McKinsey’s Michael Chui and Thomas Fleming recently sat down with McDonald at P&G’s Cincinnati headquarters to talk about the nature and progress of the company’s digitization initiative, as well as its implications for P&G’s people and culture. An edited summary of the interview follows. In the accompanying article, ‘My leadership philosophy,’ McDonald reflects on how his experiences as a US Army Airborne Ranger inform his approach to leading P&G. 2 November 2011 Real-time insights Our purpose at P&G is to touch and improve lives; everything we do is in that context. With digital technology, it’s now possible to have a one-on-one relationship with every consumer in the world...

...Ethic and Corporate Responsibility 2 Nehemiah Leary Legal 500 Professor Morris In our society, we as consumers are continuously being bombarded by advertising ads on T.V and billboards and highways to promote the latest product. a user isn’t always looking at the product or reading the safety warning on the item; they are only looking at who and what athlete and movie star promotes this latest product. For example, Gatorade always uses high profile athletes or famous people to promote its product. These ads provide a sublime message. These Ads are gear to get the consumer to buy their product. In order for me to be like MJ, I have to drink Gatorade. There has been a shift over the last couple of years in product safety. According to Chandra, “product safety has become a major problem for businessmen, consumers and the government” (Chandran, 1979). Advertising can be both influential and persuasive. It presents an issue of product safety. The Consumer Product Safety Commission threatened to ask Congress to give it greater authority. Advertising is protected under the First Amendment, but there has to be limits. “While advertising does not directly contribute to all product related accidents, it does, inadvertently, have the power to promote unsafe behavior” (Chandran, 1979). Advertising indirectly contributes to the problem of consumer product safety. “Advertisers and advertising agencies should therefore do more to educate consumers in a safe and prudent use of products...

...Collaboration In one automobile, it is typically features with 20,000-30,000 parts, which all of even the largest manufacturers cannot produce themselves. Therefore, the manufacturers have to either outsource the production or purchase finished products from suppliers (including 1st to 3rd tiers). In order to achieve effective supply chain integration, the use of collaboration and coordination among channel partners that share business information, to simplify core processes, streamline cross company operations and reduce consequent channel-wide costs are suggested (Lee & Whang, 2001), (Callioni & Billington, 2001) and (Hammer, 2001) Vertical SCC includes collaboration with customers, internally (across functions) and suppliers. Horizontal SCC includes collaboration with competitors, and non-competitors. In addition, SCC also can be divided into three levels; Strategic, Tactical, and Operational levels. the formation of SCC into 3 categories; Internal-organization factors, Inter-organization and External factors There are many supply chain processes that can be joined between the collaborative partners, for example; planning, scheduling, forecasting, sourcing, production process, delivery process, problem solving, selling, etc. Besides, collaboration can be made by sharing of resources, skill, or knowledge. The success of collaborative efforts cannot be assured unless performance is properly monitored and measured. The collaborative indexes and measurement should...
