...Student Survival Guide Gen 105 August 26, 2012 Student Survival Guide I recently have learned that I have more transferrable credits than I initially thought. This means that I will be moving on from the associates program to my Bachelor’s program sooner than I expected. My classes will be shorter, and the learning will be accelerated. In order to survive the next two years, I have created a Student Survival Guide that I will use to navigate successfully through my Bachelor’s program. The following tips and practices are listed in the order that I deem important to survive my Bachelor’s program. Before I can get started on my Bachelor’s, I need to re-establish my short-term and long-term goals. I have three short-term goals that can be completed roughly within the next two years. First, I will complete each course in my program to the best of my ability to achieve the highest grade possible. Second, when I have completed all my courses successfully I will receive my Bachelor’s Degree. My last short-term goal is to find an entry-level position in my field and begin gaining experience. I have three long-term goals. My first long-term goal is to go back to college while I am working and get my Master’s degree. This may be difficult, since I will be working and raising a family while going back to school but I believe it can be achievable if I stick to a strict schedule. My second long-term goal is to complete my internship. My third long-term goal is to pass...

...Westmount Nursing Home and Cogeneration sale Town Hall Meeting Supervisor Doug Beaty Supervisor Peter McDevitt Supervisor Mark Westcott 5/1/2014 Opening Remarks We believe the public should have the opportunity to weigh in There are major financial challenges facing the county. Where possible favor privatizing County functions including Westmount. We don t understand why other county run facilities running similar deficits aren t looked at with the same steely gaze taken to Westmount. The Cogeneration plant has hindered the county s ability to attract buyers for Westmount. One potential buyer was not willing to pick up the future co-gen payments to Siemens and dropped out. We want people to know the truth about the Cogeneration plant. Finding a caring operator is every bit as important as the initial sale price. We do not support how this sale process has been handled and the deal terms with the one remaining buyer. We re here tonight to tell you why. Doug Beaty, Peter McDevitt and Mark Westcott Agenda Overall Economics o The State of the Nursing home industry o Westmount Nursing Home o Cogeneration plant Cogen Impact: o How the deal was originally structured o The financial impact to Westmount o The impact on the current sale. ...Personal Responsibility and College Success Dora Kareem GEN/200 February 6, 2012 Sara Martin Personal Responsibility and College Success Some students believe that outside forces control circumstances in school, and therefore, their grades. There is a direct correlation between taking personal responsibility of grades and college success. Limiting what outside negative forces have and bringing positive influences through time management and healthy choices will improve success greatly. Taking personal responsibility, a student can lead a healthy lifestyle and considerably improve college grades. Personal responsibility is taking accountability for actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions, and realizing how to improve. Many times there are outside forces that try to inhibit success while in college. The duties and responsibilities required from work, family, social responsibility, and health can all interfere with choices for success. The hours at work, whether full-time or part-time do not always stop when leaving work. Sometimes work is brought home, putting in extra hours to complete the project instead of using good time management skills and delegation to get it done. Families are a full-time job and contain extraordinary obligations. Family responsibility does not stop when leaving for work, running errands, or have a night out with friends. When one’s child or spouse gets sick or an emergency happens, everything generally stops...

...Proton (automobile) Proton Holdings Berhad (stylised PROTON) is a Malaysian automobile manufacturer. It is headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor and operates an additional manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. The company was established in 1983 as the sole national car company until the advent of Perodua in 1993. Proton is a Malay acronym for Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sendirian Berhad. (National Automobile Company Private Limited). approved by the Cabinet in 1982, leading to the official founding of Proton on 7 May 1983. The company was initially wholly owned by the government of Malaysia through Khazanah Nasional and was headed by its founder, Dr. Mahathir. Proton approached Mitsubishi Motors between 1983 and 1984 and brokered a joint venture between both companies for the production of the first Malaysian car. The result of the collaboration was the Proton Saga, which launched on 9 July 1985.[3] It was based on the second generation 1983 Mitsubishi Lancer Fiore 4-door saloon and powered by a 1.3-litre Mitsubishi Orion 4G13 engine. The first Proton Saga to roll off the production line in Shah Alam is preserved in the Muzium Negara as a symbol of the beginning of the Malaysian automotive industry. Sales of the new Saga outstripped supply and Proton struggled to meet the growing demand, but by mid-1986 it had captured a 64% majority domestic market share in the Below 1600cc segment.[4] Later in October 1987, a hatchback variant called the Proton Saga...

...Introduction “We, as peace-keepers, represent the United Nations and are present in the country to help it recover from the trauma of a conflict. As a result we must consciously be prepared to accept special constraints in our public and private lives in order to do the work and to pursue the ideals of the United Nations Organization” United Nations DPKO [1] These words illustrate the highest standards of integrity and conduct that need to be maintained and performed by the UN peacekeepers as required by the United Nations Organization. The world’s largest “club” embodies the aspirations of all the people of the world for maintaining peace and security of all its member states. It also at a glance demonstrates the main role or aims that have been made the responsibility of UN peacekeepers in relieving a conflict-torn country, although it relies on their dignity and restraint. Despite the many motivations behind UN peacekeepers (soldiers) joining the UN peace operations, such as compulsory military service, the opportunity for travel or adventure, to pursue a career, adding some skills that can be useful after retiring from service, or simply for better pay; many express their interest to bring peace to people and stability to an area wrecked by conflict.[2] My experience as a former UN peacekeeper in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from 2004 until 2005 encouraged my intention to analyze what was going...

...Maisonneuve et al. BMC Medical Education (2015) 15:154 DOI 10.1186/s12909-015-0435-x RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access How do general practice residents use social networking sites in asynchronous distance learning? Hubert Maisonneuve1*†, Juliette Chambe2, Mathieu Lorenzo2 and Thierry Pelaccia3*† Abstract Background: Blended learning environments - involving both face-to-face and remote interactions - make it easier to adapt learning programs to constraints such as residents’ location and low teacher-student ratio. Social networking sites (SNS) such as Facebook®, while not originally intended to be used as learning environments, may be adapted for the distance-learning part of training programs. The purpose of our study was to explore the use of SNS for asynchronous distance learning in a blended learning environment as well as its influence on learners’ face-to-face interactions. Methods: We conducted a qualitative study and carried out semi-structured interviews. We performed purposeful sampling for maximal variation to include eight general practice residents in 2nd and 3rd year training. A thematic analysis was performed. Results: The social integration of SNS facilitates the engagement of users in their learning tasks. This may also stimulate students’ interactions and group cohesion when members meet up in person. Conclusions: Most of the general practice residents who work in the blended learning environment we studied had a positive appraisal on...
