Thigh-highs, sweaters, stilettos, tennis shoes, lingerie and sweat pants aren’t often associated with protest, but in the case of SlutWalks, they’re the way many women are choosing to make their voices heard. As our readings point out, the walks aim to shift the current perspective on rape, to end victim blaming (Stampler). SlutWalks raise awareness in an organic way; they are an offshoot of local outrage, and that has power (Valenti).
