There is an enormous problem occurring in the United States that directly affects roughly half of the population. This issue is the wage gap, primarily the separation of equal pay between the two genders. Women have been disregarded as equals in America for generations, especially in the workforce. As this situation continues, women are consistently tasked with similar financial difficulties that a man encounters, all while earning less wages overall. This paper will discuss this problem thoroughly, while also offering a solution on how to rid of the culture that supports this ongoing predicament. In order to ensure a better future for everyone, the wage gap must be transformed into a memory and not a reality. The gender wage gap is the worst …show more content…
According to a recent article published by The Washington Post, the gap of earnings between male and female heavily depends on which occupation is being compared. For example, a woman employed as a pharmacist receives approximately 95% of what a man would typically earn holding a similar position(Xaquín, 2017). This disparity is treasured when the difference between a man and women in a managerial position in marketing is brought to the light. A women would only earn roughly 75% compared to a man in that particular profession(Xaquín, 2017). This fact is discouraging to many young women who are accomplishing similar achievements to their counterparts, but are not receiving the full reward. Unfortunately, this is not the worst example of the wage gap in the work field. As a recent Forbes article states, “Finance and insurance showed the largest pay gap, at 29%” (Kauflin, 2016). These articles present the truth behind the matter that the wage gap is not consistent across all occupations, rather, it heavily relies on which field of work is being examined. It is extraordinarily startling to be aware of these appalling numbers, especially for a woman entering in a college university. It is highly likely a woman would be swayed to switch her career for the dismaying reason she understands that a certain field tends to discriminate less than another.
