Genre Analysis of an Academic Paper This academic paper is following the major of psychology, with a lot of appropriate information on the “halo effect” and experimental studies behind it. There is a pretty good depth of context and background information behind this paper, which helps the credibility and validity of the information provided. Written in the Journal of Psychology, researchers conduct a study primarily on college students to determine the effectiveness of the halo effect, and if it’s still pertinent or not. Stated in the article, the organization’s purpose is “primary to determine the magnitude of the physical attractiveness halo effect” (Lucker 1). Although I found no missions statement of the authors, I believe it’s pretty clear they work through the department of psychology to conduct and update new research for the social behaviorisms of persons, in this case colleges students. The readers and writers say a lot about this article as well. Authors include William G. Lucker, William E. Beane, and Robert L. Helmreich. From doing some of my own research, I found that all three have PH.Ds in psychology, and attended credited colleges. Luker, for example, was an attendee at the University of Texas in Austin. Lucker has also written many of his own books in the field of social psychology, strengthening his awareness for the field. This makes me trust this article and the research provided. From my conclusions, I feel that this paper is primarily written for other scientists and researchers of the psych department, maybe even some psych students. This could also be used as an example to professors who teach social psych and the halo effect. The paper is broken down into sections using roman numerals, explaining the steps used before, during, and after the study. Each section is also indicated with a title to make it very easy to follow. At Risk Youth Mentoring

...eliminated via a youth's participation in the mentoring program. These outcomes often include parameters like delinquency, substance abuse, academic parameters (i.e. success, dropout rates, etc.), aggression, and others (McWhirter et al., 2012). To prove effectiveness the idea is that mentoring programs should at prove that the participants show some degree of minimization of these negative outcomes and/or improvement in various areas; compared to the control groups that did not receive mentoring, in order to be considered effective. The effectiveness of at risk youth mentoring programs have been investigated by various studies, but these studies each have their own research design, protocol, sample size, p-value levels, and so on. Due to the many variables involved, a systematic review can summarize findings and come to the overall conclusion on at risk youth mentoring programs’ overall effectiveness. The review gathered by a systematic review could then be used in future evidence-based practice working with this population. Such a review could also help to inform better policy...

Research on Asia Economics

...Sciences, Nanyang Technological University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics Academic Year: 2014/2015 FYP Project Number: HE_2AY1415_09 ABSTRACT Despite its high growth, positive economic outlook and its GDP accounting for about a quarter of the world’s GDP, there is an underrepresentation of Asia in terms of published articles in the top 10 economics journals. This study highlights this fact and has found tenure to be a likely cause for the lack of Asia-focused articles. This stems from the strong emphasis universities place on the publishing of articles and with the belief that there is a lack of reliable data on Asia, researchers are less inclined to conduct studies on Asia given that top economics journals require accurate and dependable data for publishing. 1 FYP Project Number: HE_2AY1415_09 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We, the authors of this paper, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Chia Wai Mun, Associate Professor, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technology University, for her unwavering support and constant guidance throughout this project. Nats Controversy

...Pavri Once you have selected your academic and popular sources, I want you to gather information about each side of your debate and then start organizing the various arguments. Don’t worry about choosing sources that only present one side of the argument or another. That is not the point. Many scholarly sources for example, are likely to provide you with arguments that you will use for both sides of your controversy. While you don’t have to worry about choosing the same number of “for” articles and “against” articles, it is important to make sure you have a balanced number of arguments for each side of your debate. Finally, you also don’t need to separate your popular and scholarly sources as they are likely to examine similar issues. You don’t want to be repetitive when describing various arguments, so think about a way of effectively organizing the arguments you will presenting. Your paper is essentially going to be divided in two parts. The first part will be about describing the arguments on either side of the debate. I call this the descriptive component of your paper. The second part of your paper is the analysis. You will be analyzing two things. First, I want you to compare and contrast how your topic is presented in scholarly versus popular media. Think of areas like language (simple versus complex), use of references, and length of article as a starting point for your analysis. Make sure to use examples in your analysis. For instance, if you tell me that scholarly...
