General Patton: Movie Analysis

Even though the film was made almost half a century ago it barely shows, and though it doesn’t look cutting edge the slightly older feel doesn’t subtract from the experience and can even lend to it a bit. Though the battles didn’t seem as realistic they weren’t overdone. I thought the music was slightly lackluster, there weren’t any tracks I specifically remembered or thought about now and at the time, with the exception of the main theme; I remember being impressed at the time by the large marching bands they got together. But, that conclusion doesn’t seem that out of place. The movie itself only features a hand full of battles, most of which are shorter clips, the rest is General Patton’s personal struggle. So, epic sprawling orchestral soundtracks

Patton

...Patton Analysis In the film Patton, many events and important people were depicted, including the battle of the bulge, Sicily, France, General George Patton, Erwin Rommel, Omar Bradley, and Bernard Law Montgomery. General Patton was commander of the Third Army in which he led them ti victory after a crushing defeat in the Battle of Kasserines pass. Erwin Rommel was general of the German army and he was widely respected for his ability to lead. Omar Bradley was second in command to General Patton and was head of the operation in North Africa. Montgomery was general of the British army and at this time he was winning every battle he got into. All of these people were important during world war 2 because they all led an army into battle and were victorious throughout the war and because they all were highly thought of and respected. Sicily and France were both places in which Patton led the Third Army and took then from the Germans. The battle of the bulge was a German offensive in which rot hope was to split up and surround the British and American forces. The directors purpose of masking this film was to inform people of general Patton's accomplishments while he was commanding the American Army. It was to show the war through the life of George Patton and to show how Patton changed the course of the war by actually disciplining the US Army. This movie shows the theme that discipline is the key to winning a war because without discipline, no one will know what to do and...

According to McLuhan (n. d.), television is a form of entertainment, and it has educational properties. It teaches all the time, doing even more educating than schools. According to Patton (2006), television commercials have long been an effective means of advertising products. Today they are less dominant in the television landscape due to the rise of TiVo, commercial free cable and other forms of video entertainment. New types of advertising like sponsorship of sporting events featured on television and the placement of products within shows are growing, but traditional commercials still take up significant airtime and account for a large amount of broadcaster revenue. Few television viewers have not been exposed to television commercials. Advertising involves programming that is paid for by companies and institutions and that relays a message to viewers. To What Extent Has the Use of Technology in Evidence Altered Our Understanding of Adversarialism?

...Evidence To what extent has the use of technology in evidence altered our understanding of adversarialism? What is adversarialism? The adversarial system is the two-sided structure under which criminal trial courts in the UK operate. There are four prominent structural features of the English adversarial system. Firstly, the parties dominate the conduct of proceedings with the judge playing a relatively passive role. Secondly, the parties are free to choose the terrain on which to fight out their legal battles and to select their forensic weapons. Thirdly, Trials are continuous, oral and public events. Fourthly, the imbalance of power between the state and the accused is ameliorated by rules and principles reducing inequality of arms. High level definitions or at least descriptions of the adversarial system abound such as that of Lord Denning in Jones v The National Coal Board. They are all to the effect that the judge is a passive and neutral umpire who cannot descend into the arena for fear of having his or her judgement clouded. The adversarial system is said to be the most efficient means of arriving at approximate truth because it harnesses the power of self-interest on each side to unearth the best evidence. Similarly the best legal arguments are thought to emerge from the clash of advocate’s submission on the law. A classic quotation is that of Lord Eldon in Ex Parte Lloyd that ‘truth is best discovered by powerful statements on both sides of the question.’ This...

Tidbits

...TIDBITS OF MY LIFE AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Ray Jablonski As one grows older and ponders the past one cannot help but wonder what legacy will dwell. Thus, I shall write about the things in my life, big and small that my descendants may wish to know about and perhaps keep in their memory as well. So I shall begin with the earliest history of my life with the ends and odds of the important things I can recall. These tidbits should reveal what my whole life was all about. Perhaps the luckiest and most important day of my life was 6 p.m. on 7 November 1921 (7/11/21), the day I was born. It happened to be that I was the seventh child of thirteen siblings, right smack in the middle. My mother's name was Florence Amelia. It so happened that she was the thirteenth child of her parents, the Zbrowski's. My Zbrowski grandparents were born and married in the western German occupied area of Poland. They had several children there and migrated the family to Reading, Pennsylvania in 1879. Florence, my mother, was born there on 19 March 1890. She had six brothers and six sisters. She was very fortunate to have received a good Catholic education and graduated from Common School (eighth grade), which was quite an achievement for a female during the turn of the last century. She was bilingual and could read and write both Polish and English. Her father was a successful tailor and a proprietor of a local saloon at...

Research on Humerous Advertising

...1.0Background of the report _____________________________________________________________________________ Advertisements play an essential role in people's lives. People get much information through advertisements, especially television advertisements as well as print ad also. Therefore, many advertisers create a lot of techniques in television advertising to deliver the message that they want to deliver. Humor is one of the most popular and frequently used techniques in television advertising. More and more television advertisements are using humor, and many marketing researchers say that humor arrests people's attention, increases advertisement memorability, overcomes sales resistance, and enhances message persuasiveness (Duncan 286). Role of humor in advertising: In today’s time role of humor in television advertising has reached to a great significance, especially on a particular issue such as brand image shaping, and provide useful information to the advertisers to help them decide whether they should invest in the use of humor in television advertising or should change direction to another technique. In addition, consumer and mass communication researchers would find the addition of such a study to the body of media knowledge worthwhile for generating idea and assumptions for future studies and research (Yilin Fang (2011), Humor and Brand Image-Shaping ). Using humor in television advertising to add value to the company’s brand image, to find out the role of humor...

Woman in Pacific

...WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP: THE STATE OF PLAY Deborah L. Rhode and Barbara Kellerman July, 2006 c Some four decades ago, Betty Friedan helped launch the contemporary women’s movement with her publication of The Feminine Mystique. The book famously identified a “problem that has no name”: American women’s confinement to a separate and unequal domestic sphere. One factor contributing to women’s unequal status was their absence from leadership positions. Another aspect of the problem was the lack of cultural consensus that this absence was itself part of the problem, and a matter of social concern. Over the last several decades, we have named that leadership problem and created a cottage industry to address it. Women’s underrepresentation in positions of power generates an increasing array of committees, commissions, consultants, centers, conferences, and commentary such as the essays that follow. Yet while we have made considerable progress in understanding the problem, we remain a dispiriting distance from solving it. I. The Underrepresentation of Women in Leadership Roles The facts are frustratingly familiar. Despite almost a half-century of equal opportunity legislation, women’s opportunities for leadership are anything but equal. To be sure, the situation has improved significantly over this period, particularly if leadership is broadly defined to include informal as well as formal exercises of authority.[i] By that definition, the percentage of women...
