...------------------------------------------------- STRATEGIC PRICING PROPOSAL TO COUNTER GENERIC SILDENAFIL We, the Viagra Senior Marketing Managers, are proposing the post-patent expiration Strategic Pricing Plan to the Pfizer Executive Leadership Team for presentation at the next quarterly meeting. Viagra has been very successful since its approval in March 1998 as a first in class erectile dysfunction (ED) medication. We achieved gross revenue of $1.9 billion last year despite competition from the two other branded drugs in our market, Cialis and Levitra. As we look to the future and our patent expiration in 2020, we need to plan to face our generic competition. The goal for the Viagra post-patent expiration Strategic Pricing Plan is to maximize profit as long as possible. This report will provide an overview of our past and current state, and arrive at our proposed pricing strategy plan in which we will achieve the best outcome. ZOLOFT (ANTI-DEPRESSION DRUG) CASE EXAMPLE: PRICE ELASTICITY OF DEMAND In our efforts to predict what will happen to Viagra once our patent expires, we reviewed another Pfizer’s drug, Zoloft, as a case example. Zoloft was the leading antidepressant drug that brought in $3.3 billion in sales before its patent expired on June 30, 2006. It faced branded competition from Effexor XR from Wyeth, Paxil and Welbutrin XL from GlaxoSmithKline, and Cymbalta from Eli Lilly & Co. The demand for Zoloft was inelastic before patent expiration which...

...complexity of biological molecules, challenging manufacturing processes, expensive clinical studies and the barriers to market access. Unlike chemical-based prescription drugs, biologic drugs are derived from living cells. They are used to treat cancers, immunological diseases and other chronic illnesses. Biosimilars are generic versions of biological drugs that are similar to innovative biological drugs. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) became law in 2010. Section XII of the law allows an abbreviated approval pathway for biosimilars. FDA is currently developing a specific regulatory route to govern the abbreviated approval process for biosimilars. There are no biosimilars approved in the US under the law yet, but more than 17 Investigational New Drug (IND) Applications for biosimilar development have been submitted to the FDA. A legal framework for approving biosimilars was established in the European Union in 2003 and European Medicines Agency (EMA) has already approved 19 biosimilars. The healthcare costs were reduced in the US due to the availability of generic chemical drugs. According to the generic pharmaceutical association’s report, “Over the period of 2003 through 2012,...

Consequences – reduced coordination, anxiety & panic attacks, memory loss, dizziness, sedation, blood-shot eyes, increased appetite, lower blood pressure, increased heart rate, coughing, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema, problems with your immune system, and increased risk of cancers involving the head, neck, lungs, mouth, and respiratory & gastrointestinal tracts. Withdrawal Symptoms – headaches, shakiness, sweating, stomach pains, nausea, restlessness, irritability, and trouble sleeping. STIMULANT- COCAINE Generic Name – Cocaine Street name(s) – Blow, Bump, Snow, Powder, and Nose Candy. Action – Cocaine prevents the dopamine from being recycled, causing excessive amounts to build up in the synapse, or junction between neurons. This amplifies the dopamine signal and ultimately disrupts normal brain communication. It is this flood of dopamine that causes cocaine’s characteristic high. Consequences – increased blood pressure and heart rate, insomnia, loss of appetite, dilated pupils, nosebleeds, chronic runny nose, problems swallowing, erosion of the upper nasal cavity, a unique respiratory...

From 2011 alone Actavis’s internal investment has risen by 36%. Close to 7% of the Net revenue is maintained as R&D expense every year. | * Research and DevelopmentResearch and development expenses increased by 17% during 2012. Research and development expenditures accounted for 6% of the total revenues during 2012 as compared to 7% during the 2011. Strong focus on cost control, impressive pipeline for the US, strong foothold in domestic markets and a clean & strong balance sheet are the major investment planks of SPIL. We also like its strategy of buying distressed assets and turning it around via strong management bandwidth. We are initiating coverage on SPIL with a PERFORMER rating. We estimate SPIL’s US revenue to degrow ~27% on account of recent seizure of 33 Caraco products. However, speedy approval from its portfolio of 108 ANDAs (mostly differentiated ANDAs) pending approval will likely cushion steeper fall in US revenues (we have not factored such revenue in our estimates). Such approvals will likely help maintain margins and US revenue Strong foothold in domestic chronic segment earns highest margins SPIL generates one of the highest EBITDA margins (GC...
