George Knightley
Is one of the most important figures in the book, during much of the time he is in the background of events. He is the only one strong enough to impress Emma with critical good sense, and he is the only logical one that she can marry.
Mr. Knightley tells Emma what he thinks she needs to hear – even if it means that she dislikes him for it.
Emma dsoent like anyone to crtique her but she trusts mr knightly opinion, Mr. Knightley always manages to warn her of potential social improprieties. Like Mrs. Weston,.We know that Emma’s screwing up because Knightley tells us she is

Miss Bates
She is like a boring non-stop talker. She is, indeed, one of the most kindhearted and thankful persons imaginable; is also capable of being hurt and of forgiving.
Miss Bates is sweet, generous and kind person. She might like gossip a bit too much, but then again, so does just about everybody in Highbury
Miss Bates grew up as a gentlewoman, provided for by her father and well-respected by all of Highbury. When her father and brother die, however, Miss Bates has no one to support her the Misses Bates (mom and daughter) live largely off the charity of others. It’s a hard life for them, especially since Miss Bates can remember a time when everybody – including Emma – looked up to her. Now Emma makes fun of her at parties
Fortunately, Miss Bates actually does have a heart of gold. She may not say intelligent things, but she’s more than willing to forgive anyone who slights her – including Emma. And she’s always happy to hang out with Mr. Woodhouse, which makes her the perfect friend to keep around during dinner parties

Harriet Smith
She is a simple but pretty girl who, once in love, will always be in love .Harriet’s pretty and humble and completely without any imagination whatsoever. She loves Emma like a little puppy loves its mother. Emma becomes a friend-sister-advisor-wedding planner and life organizer for Harriet.
Harriet seems unable to think a full thought – or even finish a full sentence. Luckily, she has Emma to do both for her.
Emma convinces her to fall in love with Mr. Elton
Emma also manages to convince Harriet to refuse the one man who actually seems to love her for who she is –. Robert Martin, the farmer we probably learn more about Harriet through listening in on others’ opinions of her than we do from Harriet’s own thoughts and actions. (That’s because she doesn’t have many thoughts and actions
Emma has some pretty witty things to say about that. She argues that men don’t actually look for intelligent women – they’re too busy trying to marry a girl with a pretty face. Until men change, she says, there’s really no need to make Harriet more than she is

Mrs. Anne Weston (Miss Taylor)
Emma's governess who essentially raised Emma after her mother died. At the beginning of the book she marries Mr. Weston, a somewhat older gentleman. Mrs. Weston is an exemplar for Emma, modest and self-possessed, but still fails to see many of the faults in Emma that Mr. Knightley strives to correct throughout the novel.

1. It is always incomprehensible to a man that a woman should ever refuse an offer of marriage. A man always imagines a woman to be ready for anybody who asks her.
