...anything they can for relief, money, power and overall success. Three films that demonstrate this are The Grapes of Wrath, El Norte, and City of God. In these films, characters struggle to find their idea of “paradise” or their “Promised Land”. The Grapes of Wrath is a film about a family who is forced off of their farms and out of their home due to the immense draught that has plagued the Midwest during the Great Depression. The actors in this film were not made up to look like the typical perfect Hollywood type. They look like real farmers and hardworking people and the lighting is manipulated to show this. The family, the Joad’s, travel from Oklahoma all the way to California when they hear about the jobs and opportunities out there. Throughout their journey they face a lot of difficulties in keeping their supplies and money at a constant flow. They stop to work small farming and harvesting jobs along the way but never make enough money. They keep their hope alive and the family close so that no one is left behind as they finally reach a dreary camp for people to find work. The main character, Tom, who was just released from prison, gets into a fight with another worker and knows he can not stay with the family because it will get all of them into trouble, so he goes off on his own. Tom is willing to risk the possibility of getting caught on his own so that the family does not have to suffer even more. There is a clear notion that the idea of his family comes first...

...In my opinion it’s obviously better for children to grow up in a big city rather than growing in the countryside. It has some specific reasons. First of all, even there are some important dangers and difficulties, which make the life harder; in the other hand there are really useful opportunities which provides the individual many ways to develop themselves. The system of education is definitely more advanced in a big city, and education is the main step for being ready for the life and to gain your own life standards. Also the job opportunities are much more excessive. An individual who grows up in a big city has the advantage of getting a better education and afterwards by the support of this education, finding a better and more esteemed job to maintain their lives. Secondly; an individual who grows up in the countryside lives in a kind of gallipot which he/she is void of the competition and the dangers at the outside world and because of this situation they also have no opinion to fight and get over with these kinds of problems which they have to face with. A person who grows up in the countryside will definitely have a lots of problems about getting used to the hard life because the difficulties and the distresses in a big city life will easily beat them up as these kinds of people has a totally different perspectives through life and because of this the solutions they produce against the challenges will be also totally different and useless...

...people get sick from it I would first try to contact the City Hall. After contacting them I would get the number and location of the nearest water testing business where they could tell me if there is anything wrong with the water. After I would do that I would contact one of the families that have gotten sick and find out if they also think there is something wrong with the water and find out more about what illness they have gotten. I would also try to contact the mayor of the city I have moved to, to let him know about my concerns and find out if anyone else has been asking or worried about this problem. Lastly I would contact an inspector or someone to come to my home to test the water themselves and take a look to be sure it is not something that is personally wrong with my house and that is indeed the water I am getting from the city water. The first question I would bring up is ask if anyone else has been asking about the water being contaminated and also I would ask if there has ever been a problem with this before in the past. I would try to find out when the last time it was that they checked to see if there was contamination in the water and how often they check for these kinds of problems. The last question I would have to ask these people would have to be about where the water is coming from and if it is possible that something has been broken and leaked into the water. Five websites that I have found about contaminated water include: http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/uscities...

...great city of Sienna, Italy with my dear husband and my two young children. My life isn’t going so well right now it’s falling apart, all due to the outbreak of the black plague. I bet you have already come across it because it’s spreading without stop from city to city, but if you haven’t yet let me inform you that it’s the most horrifying thing I have ever experienced in all my life. This disease has killed millions of people including my neighbors, relatives, and my loved ones, no one is safe. The black plague starts off with painful swelling and almost tumor like lumps on your body called buboes usually located in your groin and underarms and can be as large as the size of an egg. Next you will start vomiting and have an extremely high fever and you will start seeing dark blotches all over your body caused by bleeding under your skin. If you haven’t passed away yet the disease will attack your nervous system and create you to have excruciating painful spasms. Lastly the buboes will pop and there will be black liquid discharge from it. All in all most victims suffer a painful death; it is just so depressing to see your whole city perish this way. The black plague had such a major impact on the world, it affected it socially, religiously, and it even affected the economy. It affected the world socially for many reasons the most obvious being the population shortage. About 50-70% of people died in cities and 20-30% of people died in the countryside. My city was getting so small...

...The Ancient City Underwater “It is the city of mirrors, the city of mirages, at once solid and liquid, at once air and stone,” said Erica Jong. Also, known as the ancient city underwater. So what city am I talking about? The city I am talking about is Venice. This city was built with a country populated with over millions of people, so why is it populated with a little over 200,000 people today. There are many countries that we can tour today, but today, I’m going to take you to Italy - specifically Venice. I will talk about the History of Venice, it's population, architecture and my most favorite experience at Venice. Before I talk about the population, architecture, and my experience, lets go back to the beginning, the history of Venice. In 450 A.D Venice was discovered, quickly becoming a spot for Italians, though Venice was once apart of the mainland of Italy. On March 25th 421 A.D Venice was discovered. However, it was not until 450 A.D before men started to move to Venice. These mean where men from the main lands of Italy. The man...

...Tania Moshirian A10023469 USP 100 September 3rd, 2014 Website Final Draft The Collapse Detroit, Michigan: a city where more than 1.1 million people have vanished in the past 60 years. The city has dropped 25% in population just in the last 10 years. The city crumbled apart, which forced people to abandon their houses and businesses, leaving them with nothing. Even hospitals and religious structures were abandoned--and are still abandoned--with no demand to fill them. Ultimately, the auto industry was hit the hardest. With a systematic city, there was nowhere for the people to find jobs, since the auto industry was also hurting. More than 200,000 people worked in the auto industry in the mid-20th century. Since the slow migration out of Detroit, the number fell to 100,000 people in the early 21st century. People have compared the migration out of Detroit to the whole city of San Francisco being deserted. More than 1.1 million people have left the city over the past decades. With economic downward spiral, Detroit hit its lowest point. With less than 750,000 people living in the city, it has been hard for local government to get money for the federal government for urban aid--leaving people still living in the city to suffer more. Detroit was named the poorest city in the nation, with one out of three people living below federal poverty. (1) With so many people suffering, it led to many fires. Buildings and houses were burning rapidly. There were two...

...JERSEY CITY COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT EVELYNE WILLIAMS JAISAMMA THOMAS CHAMBERLAIN COLLEGE OF NURSING NUR 419 NURSING PROCESS IN THE COMMUNITY In many ways, the history of Jersey City is the history of America. From the earliest Dutch settlement in 1660 to the present day, Jersey City has seen its share of exploration, innovation, slavery, reform, immigration, industry, commerce, terrorism, war and peace and survived. Jersey City's population reached 299,000 in 1950. Residents and businesses, lured to suburbs accessible by new highways, began to leave the city in the 1950s. In response, older brownstone row homes were rehabilitated and massive downtown redevelopment projects were sponsored by private, municipal, state, and federal government dollars. Liberty State Park opened in 1976, and the first New Jersey Waterfront Marathon was run in 1985. By the late 1980s, Jersey City had become an alternate site for businesses fleeing high rent and other business costs in New York City. Jersey City was the only one of the state's six largest cities to gain both in population and employment during the recession of the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1994, ten major firms relocated to the city, bringing more than 6,000 new jobs. Nearly 30 firms moved to or began operations within the city during the 1990s, and the skyline was transformed from rail yards and warehouses along the Hudson River to modern office towers and trendy artist's neighborhoods. Massive...

...California’s Sanctuary Bill Sanctuary cities are not a new thing. Sanctuary cities have been in place for many years. Los Angeles was one of the first sanctuary cities in the late 1970s.(Sanctuary Cities:). The Sanctuary cities have been made more aware of now that we have a sitting president that has made known he is admittedly against undocumented immigrants in his campaign speeches by mentioning, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best . . . They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”(Green). Also by bringing up that the United States needs better border security, the President used suggestions to build a wall along the southern borders in his campaign and has used rhetoric instead of evidence (Green). The president is so against the sanctuary cities and state, that he has even gone as far as having the Justice Department sue the state of California over it becoming a sanctuary state, because it is not following federal laws. While a sanctuary state is believed to be a safe haven for all undocumented immigrants, those that have commit serious and violent crimes are subject...

The employees from each department will be able to make any changes needed within the program. The program will have a section in which the different departments will be able to write their comments. These sections will be readily available to each department. Each department will be able to have access to what other departments commented on and make the appropriate changes if needed.
