SUBJECT: “Getting to Know YOU!”

The reason I am taking this organization communication class is to focus and work on my communication skills. Communication is not a strength of mine but a weakness. Communication in important in life and in your career. I am a Project Manager and have the job I want. Communication plays a huge role in my career and taking this class will help me fine tune my communication skills.

My career goals are to have my own company. I currently work in an AMI/AMR & Metering company. I am happy with my position and would like to continue to grow in my field. I would also like to grow in the consulting field as it lines up with my plans for my own business. I will use the knowledge and experience that I have obtained throughout the years. I also plan on reaching out to my current customers and offering them another service that would be in line with my current job.

As I mentioned I am a Project Manager for Mueller Systems. We have a small office here in Ocala but larger offices throughout the US. I travel about 70% of the time so I am constantly flying, at an airport, driving, and always somewhere new. My company sells AMR/AMI system to mainly water utilities. One the solutions are sold, I step in and take the project over and drive it to completion. I can work with a tech out in the field or climbing a water tower. I can work in a meeting with a mayor and a town council.
I enjoy meeting new people and visiting new places.

My results from the Jung Typology Test can be found in the first attachment. I am ENTJ with Extraversion at 9%, Intuitive 6%, Thinking 34%, and Judging 31%. The results say that I should a natural tendency to marshall and direct but I guess I don’t always see myself or find myself in that role. I have to do it at work but I must say it does not come naturally.

Negotiating

...of Negotiating 2 The Art of Negotiating Negotiating Pressure Points, Negotiating with Non-Americans Power Negotiators know that they can get a much better deal if they know how to apply negotiating pressure points. Time can be either a friend or a foe. Two tactics related to time that you need to understand are time pressure and time investment. The time pressure tactic indicates that if one side is under time pressure to come to an agreement quickly, it gives the other side tremendous negotiating power. The secret to using time pressure as a tactic is to find out the other side’s deadline, but not let them figure out your deadline. This important because most significant concessions in any negotiation will be pushed very close to the deadline. This happens for two reasons. First, people faced with a deadline usually tend to procrastinate. And second, people tend to become a lot more flexible when confronted with time pressure. If you want to see how time can be used as a negotiating tool, just watch some children try getting concessions from their parents. Children know all about time pressure. If they want something, they ask for it just at the last moment. They wait until you're rushing out the door when you’re already late, that's when they know they have the best chance of getting what they want. Why? Because they subconsciously know that under time pressure people become very flexible. (negotiatingtraining.com) These are just a few of the many things...

Ans: I don’t like to be treated as being old. I am not an old woman. When these children try to make feel like one, I tell them I am still current. (Touching her hair) She said, I still make my hair. I like to look good. So when I get treated like an old woman, I don’t like it. But they all treat me like one. My children feel that I am old and need to be here, in a nursing home. ...Americans may judge them for being inked, a lot of people do not care of how those certain Americans might think about it. “Many Americans who do not have tattoos said they think that people with tattoos are less attractive (42%), less sexy (36%) and less intelligent (31%). They also think that those with tattoos are more rebellious (57%). In contrast, only 29% of those with tattoos think they are more rebellious.”(Vanishing Tattoo, 2003) When people are getting tattoos they are forming an expression of themselves in ink on their bodies. They are showing off to the world and everyone in it how they feel or how they live their day to day lives. ...to the next level into a relationship. However, you shouldn't ignore the topics of safe sex and birth control. Courtship is a gradual process that takes a lot of time in getting to know the person better. Many people who start dating have started off as friends with the person they're dating, so they know things about them that makes them potentially good partners in a relationship. However, this doesn't mean that it's easy to talk to them about safe sex. There are so many books giving advice on what to do when you begin dating someone, how to talk about safe sex and things to look for while you're dating that person. The unique thing with self-help books is that each writer's views are different so it doesn't sound repetitive even though the concepts are the same, but the views are very different, including those surrounding safe sex....

Operant Conditioning

... If one knows what the consequences are when they get into trouble the behavior may end up leading them being encouraged or not being encouraged to continue with the behavior. Take for example getting a new puppy. When you bring in a new puppy into the house you have to teach them to go outside to use the bathroom instead of using where they want to go which is the house. So, one thing you can do is start putting puppy pads down in front of the door and any other areas that they may be using the bathroom at. If the puppy starts using the bathroom on the puppy pad then you can praise them to let them know that is acceptable behavior. Occasionally they may have an accident and you can let them know that is bad behavior and take them either to the pad or even outside to let them know this is where you go to the restroom at. I just received a new German Shepard puppy and I am the process of training him. Eventually, if you continue to praise them for good behavior they will recognize this and will catch on to the idea that they would get a treat if he goes outside to use the bathroom. I am in the process now to opening the door and asking my dogs including the puppy who wants to go outside and they all run outside and use the bathroom and I let them all know good boy and good girls. When they come inside I then give them a treat for going outside. You don’t necessarily have to give them a treat every time they do something good, you can also just let them know they were...

Similarly to his arguments I find that people genuinely lack compassions for one another. As a people, we are really concerned with what people can do for us rather than really getting to know them. How to Get Fierd

...unworthy workers have had a common goal, which was to get fired. You too can get fired and keep the Welfare System working in your favor! These employees have taught me that there is a strategic process to getting fired, which can sometimes have very few steps. The first step in getting fired is to arrive to work late. There are to be no exceptions to this rule. You are expected to be late even on your orientation day. As a general rule, the later you are, the more pleased your employer will be with you, and the greater chance you have of having your employed status revoked. If possible, try to think of a witty excuse for your tardiness, such as “I was at my probation officer’s office,” or “You didn’t tell me I was supposed to come in today. Thankfully, I looked at the schedule. If I hadn’t, you just would have had to go on without me.” After arriving late to work, the second step is to stay off task as much as possible. Completely disregard any orders from your manager or supervisor. If there is a phone accessible, it is highly recommended that you use it for as many unnecessary, personal phone calls as possible. If a customer tries to divert your attention from your private phone call, be sure to tell him or her that you are extremely busy, and continue talking on the phone. Surely, they will understand and if you impress them enough, they might even talk to your manager and let them know what a great job you are doing. Other suggested activities which are certain to boost...

Hook Up Or Something More By Marlla Fontoura Summary

...Figuring out where you stand with someone can be confusing. You may wonder if the other person really likes you, and wants to keep seeing you and you both possibly evolve in a relationship, or if you are just a simple hookup. The article “Hookup Or Something More” by Marla Fontoura explained how a person could determine whether or not they are a simple continuous hookup, or could the person want something more with you. Fontoura stated that most hookups are involved with young people and alcohol. Hookups are also more private, and there are no strings attached. Dating consists of going out in public places, and getting to know someone on a more personal respective level. I believe Fontoura has strongly increased my belief that there is a significant difference between dating and hooking up. As stated by Fontoura, a person should start looking for the signs that will answer their question on whether or not they are a hookup or possibly something more serious. By knowing the differences between both, will help. As stated before, hooking up consists of casual sex, with no strings attached. While dating consists of getting to know each other more, and going out on public dates. This process happens a few times...

Dating Before Marriage

...Love is the affection that you can only have from your partner or loved ones whether it is permanent or temporary. In love marriages, relationships start from love whereas in arrange marriages, relationships start from a mutual understanding. The foundation of love marriages is an affection. Marriages should be based on love and not what your family believes. In arranged marriages, the two people are practically forced into marriage whereas, in love based marriages, you get to fall in love first before getting married. "She agreed to marry me after she was briefed by her friends and family. Usually you trust the judgment of your parents and other family members of your family because you trust they are acting in your best interest (Reader 184). According to the tradition of arranged marriages, considerations that are deemed important from family members in an arranged marriage, should not be ignored because they consider the appearance-- height, skin color, occupation, education history. Love marriage gives a satisfactory feeling to a couple that they have chosen the right partner for themselves...
