This hotel is signified by well budgeted hospitality that targeted the middle-class in the Indian market. The hotel was designed to ensure a larger percentage of the Indian population could afford luxurious hospitality. ...Ginger: Avert nausea Ginger can prevent stomach upset from many sources, including pregnancy, motion sickness, and chemotherapy. "This is one of Mom's remedies that really works," says Suzanna M. Zick, ND, MPH, a research investigator at the University of Michigan. A powerful antioxidant, ginger works by blocking the effects of serotonin, a chemical produced by both the brain and stomach when you're nauseated, and by stopping the production of free radicals, another cause of upset in your stomach. In one study of cruise ship passengers traveling on rough seas, 500 mg of ginger every 4 hours was as effective as Dramamine, the commonly used OTC motion-sickness medication. In another study, where subjects took 940 mg, it was even more effective than the drug. MORE: The Smoothie Cure For Gas And Bloating It might also: Decrease your blood pressure, arthritis pain, and cancer risk. Ginger helps regulate blood flow, which may lower blood pressure, says Zick, and its anti-inflammatory properties might help ease arthritis. Ginger extract had a significant effect on reducing pain in all 124 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, in a study conducted at the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Miami. Those same anti-inflammatory powers help powdered ginger kill ovarian cancer cells as well as—or better than—traditional chemotherapy, at least in the test tube, found a study by the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Although further testing is...

...Galangal, a herb like ginger and turmeric belongs to the rhizome family. It is also known as 'Siamese ginger' and is commonly used in Southeast Asian cuisine, especially Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. The raw galangal has a citrus flavor with an earthy aroma. The flavor often resembles to cedar. Though it belongs to the ginger family, but the galangal doesn’t have a peppery heat. So, it mostly used in the cuisine like soup and rendang. Although it is similar to ginger, a closer look will reveal the difference between galangal and ginger. Galangal has a tighter skin, is lighter in color and can have pinkish portions too. My mother origin is Indonesia; most of her dishes contain galangal. The best recipe that she ever made is chicken galangal rendang. I very impressed with the dish. In my head “how come a lot of galangal cooked with chicken can be eaten deliciously”. So, I decide to choose this topic, Galangal. I really want to know more about galangal; the history, uses and many more. Galangal is now grown in most Southeast-Asian countries, but was first harvested for use in cooking and medicine in China and Java. But by the Middle Ages, galangal had traveled extensively, and was already in common use throughout Europe. Referred to as "the spice of life" by St. Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), galangal was, in fact, one of her favorite remedies. This famous herbalist used galangal to treat everything from deafness and heart disease to indigestion. During the 13th-14th...

...ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT OF Zingiber officinale (GINGER) AND Allium sativum (GARLIC) AQUEOUS EXTRACT ON SOME SELECTED BACTERIA OF VETERINARY IMPORTANCE Abstract Key words Introduction The ability of a substance to inhibit or kill bacteria is known as antibacterial activity. Such substances include chemotherapeutic agents which are products of roots, bark, stems and leaves of plants. In some cases, these products serve as cheap and effective alternative to orthodox drugs. A recent survey in the United State of America revealed an expected 20% annual growth in herbal medicine in the next 5 years (Saxena, 2004) with an estimated 80% of the world population living in the developing countries still relying on plants for health care. Due to the large dependence on traditional health care practices, World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the implicit role of herbal medicine in the Alma Mata declaration of Health for All by the year 2000AD in 1978. Zingiber officinale, or common ginger which is one of the frequently used medicinal plants is native to South-East Asia. The plant has slender reed-like stems with dark glossy green leaves arising from tuberous rhizomes. Ginger has been used for centuries as flavouring and as a treatment for all sorts of ailments from motion sickness to athletes foot (Richard et al., 2005). Ginger compounds are active against a form of diarrhoea which is the leading cause of infant death in developing countries. Zinerone is likely to be the active...

...usually used in many households in order to control these pests. But the high price and health problem from branded chemical insecticides gives dilemma to Filipino household. Respiratory diseases can also result from continuous use of these insecticides especially since chemical substance from the product are inhaled by a person. This study seeks the possibility of using the extracts of ginger and dalandan to repel and eliminate insects, particularly, houseflies and cockroaches. The Dalandan and Ginger extracts as an insecticidal spray can be possible by the botanical and chemical properties that can be found within the fruit and crop. Dalandan have a chemical property which is known as d-limonene that has the capacity to melt the protective wax coating of insects, affecting their respiratory system. Ginger contains gingerols and shogoals that give ginger its hot and warming qualities, responsible for their ability to suffocate the insects. In making the insect spray, the dalandan was squeezed in order to get its extract, while the extracts of ginger were juiced out by chopping the ginger into smaller pieces and squeezing it until the juices reached the measurement given. For additional d-limonene substance (orange oil) which was extracted from the dalandan peels soaked in a jar with alcohol and was left on a sunny place for one week. To finish the product, all extracts were mixed in a sprayer. Salt was added as preservatives, which aid the capacity of the extracts to stay...

...Billy shifted uncomfortably, clenching the teacup tightly. "How could that be? Such a cheap place for such a nice place..." He looked up to the Landlady, muttering the lingering question with mild confusion. "It's quite a long tale, I'm afraid. I'm not sure that you have the time, Mr. Weaver," the Landlady deflected the question, giving him an apologetic smile, her eyes filled with sympathy. She bit her lip, tapping the side of the cup as she sat, perhaps deep in thought. "Miss? I'm not understanding what you mean by that, unfortunately." Billy kept his gaze locked on the woman, the situation at hand was becoming more and more curious and mysterious. "I believe I have enough time, madame." With a sigh, the Landlady stood up, setting the teacup on the tray. "If you insist, Mr. Weaver. Come along." Her voice held a tone of urgency to it, as if she were positive that time was running out. Shrugging, Billy followed, easily keeping her troubled pace as they made their way to the kitchen. "Poor thing is truly out of it." Shaking his head, Billy stared at the back of the woman's head with pity as the thought came to mind. Perhaps she had some condition, war was always tough for those with loved ones lost. The young man's curiosity only grew as the Landlady scrambled to the drawers, fiddling for some object. "Now," the Landlady turned to face him, a knife in hand, "do not be alarmed. But do watch closely." Her warning did not keep Billy from trying to reach out to her,...
