Girl Scouts
When I think of the term “youth,” I think back to my childhood. Something that seems like it was so long ago, yet it was only a few years ago. Strongly intriguing, I instantly connected to learning about Youth Serving Organizations. Growing up, I was involved with a handful of activities that kept me learning and growing. One that I most connected to was being a Girl Scout. Dedicating 10 years of my life to representing the “Girl Scout Promise,” I continue to do so today. We know this promise as, “On my honor, I will try, to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law.” To me, this organization has helped to mend me into the person I am, today.
One word I would use to describe being a Girl Scout, would be, empowerment. Way to many girls grow up with a lack of confidence, nitpicking every action, and the way they look. This organization has helped me to have faith and confidence in myself. I was exposed to many new things, concurred new challenges, learned to be a leader and not a follower, and learned to be self-reliant. To me, this organization did exactly what their mission intends to do for young girls.
Learning to be a leader helped me to take the lead in many other sports and activities growing up. Soccer captain, Color Guard leader, and troop leader are just a few of my accomplishments. Perhaps this was due to my drive to accomplish what I set my mind to do. I learned to run practices, organize meetings and community projects. I became the president of the ski club at school, learning to organize trips, and ways to earn money for new equipment. I held weekly voting opportunities for projects we should do to earn our next badge, during Girl Scouts. To me, although I was a leader, I felt that everyone had a say in the future endeavors of our groups. One of my proudest moments was

Should the Girl Scouts of America Be Allowed to Include Transgenders?

...Should the Girl Scouts of America be Allowed to Include Transgenders? The Girl Scouts of America has recently issued a statement allowing transgenders—associated as a girl—will be accepted as a member. There has been a continuous argument with right-wing conservatives throughout the entire country but specifically in Louisiana. Upon the release of the statement, many donors have stopped funding the program considering they believe transgenders shouldn’t be allowed in the gender specific society. There have been only a few stipulations considering transgender entry and portray the purpose to be for the well being and safety of the member. Changes in something that is correlated as traditional has caused a stir throughout the balance of equality and proves ideas can be changed in an instance upon someone or something being too insensitive about a subject. Therefore, Girl Scouts of America has just begun a revolution within the transgender youth community and should be ceased regarding they are straying away from their foundational beliefs. The origin of Girl Scouts was brought to life within the state of Georgia. Girl Scouts of America was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 claiming that her idea spawned from the creators of Boy Scouts. She believed that there should be an organization girls could be involved Humphreys 2 in where they “had a place to grow and develop their leadership skills.” Therefore, her legacy would...

Girl Scouts Scholarship Essay

...Growing up, I felt that no one really emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and working hard. Even though we were told to volunteer and make a difference, the tools were never given to us and it felt like it was unachievable. However, I was not like the rest. At a young age I was taught that the tools to will never be given to you, and if you want to make a difference you need to go out and do it. In fifth grade I knew I needed to help my community in some way. I didn’t have any clue on how I could, so I joined Girl Scouts. Through Girl Scouts I have volunteered many times at the nursing home, animal shelter, girl scout house, various donation drives, painting a veteran's house, and pretty soon I am going to be assisting a friend in helping the local veterans. On top of that I am working on getting my Volunteer in Training award, and I have already been awarded the most prestigious awards Girl Scout’s has to offer, the Bronze, SIlver, and Gold Award....

Project 1

...Project One Revised 1 December 2014 Articles to be added to Second Edition of The Ethical Citizen There it is. The four-hour flight is ready to emerge into the open air. Everything has gone smoothly, and then it comes around the corner slowly wobbling down the aisle. Eyes frantically look around to see if there is an open seat other then the one next to them. Panic sets in. The phrase, “please don’t sit by me.” is silently thought amongst everyone nearby. Then it happens. The oversized man plops his body right next to the unsuspecting passenger. It happens all the time…people judge another person by how they look before knowing a single thing about them. Does that make them a bad person? Ethics would argue yes. But what makes a person ethical? Everyone has his or her own idea of what makes someone an ethical citizen. For the second edition of The Ethical Citizen, three main components of what makes someone ethical should be incorporated into the book. These things include; responsibility, selflessness, and helping those in need. Responsibility is something that humans in today’s world strive for; in many instances responsibility can be an instinct. In Kathleen Toner’s “Taking Out the Rivers' Trash, One Piece at a Time” Chad Pregracke devotes his life to removing trash from the Mississippi River and other waterways across America. Pregracke has removed 67,000 tires, 218 washing machines, 19 tractors, 12 hot tubs, four pianos and almost 1,000 refrigerators from various bodies...

Analysis of Juilette Low

...Juliette Gordon Low: Analysis of Development By: Mary E. Dean May 3, 2014 Lifespan Development Walden University Spring Quarter 2014 Prof. V. Salzer Juliette Gordon Low is most recognized for founding and running what is now known as Girl Scouts of America. Her insight and forward thinking for her time led to this astonishing achievement but what did it take for her to get there, who or what influenced her to rise above the conventional thinking of her time and forge to such great heights? In this analysis I hope to discover answers to that question while exploring age old concepts like nature versus nurture and comparing such development theories like Erickson’s stages of development and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Juliette Gordon Low, or Daisy as she was known in her childhood, was born October 31, 1860 into a life of privilege in Savannah, GA. Juliette was the second oldest of six children. Her father William Washington Gordon was born in the south and strongly believed in the true southern traditions such as owning slaves and that the South should succeed from the Union. While her mother, Eleanor Lytle Kinzie whose family helped to found the city of Chicago and believed intensely in abolition. These opposing views caused much anguish for Juliette’s mother during the Civil War and would play a strong influence on the family dynamics as Juliette grew up. While her parents described her has having a sweet personality and caring disposition her sibling...

Baked with Tolerance

...a troop of girl scouts who are away at Camp Crescendo summer camp. The story tells of an all black Girl Scout troop of brownies who form this rivalry with all of the white girl scouts, who are known as Troop 909. As soon as the brownies arrive, some of the girls begin to question why they are at camp with white girls. Snot, one of the brownie troop members, finds out that the girls in Troop 909 are special needs children. When she discovers this, she then starts to think that Camp Crescendo is just a place where rejects and outcasts are sent. During their time at the camp, Brownie Troop members Snot and Daphne get the opportunity to grow and discover that they are their own person, and not just followers of Arnetta. Many themes are touched upon in “Brownies”. The story mainly revolves around the themes of tolerance, jealousy, and bullying. Tolerance is something that every human being should have for everyone. People who practice intolerance by being jealous and bringing down others don’t realize that it’s not only harmful to the victim, but it’s harmful to them as well. The trip to Camp Crescendo for Arnetta and Octavia was just something they were required to do. It also became an opportunity for them to harass other troop members who were less fortunate than they were. They examined and commented on everything about Troop 909. They also made fun of them at every opportunity they recieved. For example, when they were on the bus, Arnetta and the other girls constantly...

Persuasive Message-Product

...Beginning An icon of American culture for nearly 100 years; you all know what I am talking about the Girl Scout Cookie. From the beginning to the current it has gained popularity, from the cookie itself to the styling box they come in. Cookie Box The cookie box has gained so much popularity that in the 2000s Girl Scouts had a mission to design the new bold and bright cookies box, to reflect the spirit of Girl Scouts. Now in 2014, with the demand from customers wanting the majority of all the cookies, the time has come to introduce the “Girl Scout Cookie Multipack Sampler.” The multipack would combine all the favorites with the least favorites (if there are any) all in one. With 12 different types of cookies to choose from a customer may have a hard time deciding which one to choose. If this happens, then the Girl Scouts have a likely chance that they will not get the sale. But with the new multipack sampler the Girl Scouts have a better chance at gaining the sale because the customer can have all the cookies all in one. In addition, many of the Girl Scout troops would benefit from this multipack because they would have less boxes and packages to haul around and be accounted for. The environment would benefit as well, with little waste that would be produced for our recycle bins. Conclusion The biggest advantage for the Girl Scouts would be the resources would decrease because of fewer packages the company would need to produce. Having...
