...CSIS 3100 Dr. Feizi Global Awareness 11/12/13 Global Awareness Have you ever wondered why numerous U.S. companies are timid about distributing their software products to the Chinese companies? The U.S. companies are faced with the hardship of losing billions of dollars due to the lack of ability to protect copy written software programs which leads to counterfeiting. An additional challenge would be the fact that the Chinese culture requires extremely high personal relationships in order for one to succeed versus the Western culture’s need to succeed only requires low or no personal relationship. Piracy and counterfeiting are two main reasons why U.S. companies shy away from distributing their software to Chinese companies. Piracy is the act of illegally copying someone's product or invention without permission. Counterfeiting is making a copy of or usually with the intent to defraud. For instance, Steve Jobs invented the iPhone and it’s doing exceptionally well in the United States, and he decided to expand his consumer base overseas to China. However China fails to regulate the laws against piracy and counterfeiting, so now they have invent a clone of the iPhone called the hiPhone. Since the people are oblivious of the iPhone released in the United States, they may be uninformed of which product in their market is the authorized one made by Steve Jobs. Since Steve Jobs is a reserved person, he would harder time trying to allocate his business to Chinese investors...

...Global and Cultural Awareness In the majority of the health care systems in the world, extensive processes of international collaboration and migration present the profession of nursing with an escalating challenge in terms of cultural diversity. Ideally, cultural awareness in health care provision entails being sensitive to the different values and perceptions of members of a given community. This is because with the rise in the world population, the percentage relating to minorities has been steadily on the rise and thus the relevance of understanding the aspect of global and cultural awareness. In essence, the adoption of a culturally competent system of health care is important as this ensures that health care professionals remain sensitive to the existent differences between groups, not only in accordance to the outward behavior but also to attitudes relating to emotional events like pain, disability and depression (Christine & Karren, 2013). In this paper I will discuss the scope of global and cultural awareness in relation to the health care system by depicting the various aspects that surround the scope of global and cultural awareness. Factors of culture affecting an individual’s health status The various cultural factors that may have an impact on an individual’s health status are literacy levels, ethnicity, traditions, and health disparities. Literacy levels bear a significant influence on an individual’s health status with the issue affecting many people in the...

...I believe that global awareness appeals to me more than the others, because of the field I would like to peruse and my experiences. According the Merriam Webster dictionary, being aware is defined as “having or showing realization, perception, or knowledge". The globally aware person has the knowledge, competencies, values, and dispositions to act in an informed manner, demonstrate empathy, engage in effective intergroup communication, and build community across social, cultural, political, environmental, geographic, and economic boundaries. My mother and I immigrated to the United States from Peru. The fact that we were not born here leads me to understand the global implications of a saying, or a song or even a joke. Further enforcing my understanding of global awareness is my Step-Father. He is in the US Army and works in Army Acquisitions Foreign Military Sales. I see him work with a multitude of foreign governments which help me understand that we are in a global economy and when something happens in the world it can and most likely will affect the global economy. It is important for me to develop myself as a professional and as an individual with awareness or knowledge of how my actions will affect my future, the future of others, my community, country and ultimately the entire planet. I believe that the more aware we become, the less we will be subject of behaving in a way that will negatively affect others. You do not have to look to far in history to see...

...This assignment addresses Global Awareness because in class we had to pick an event that was occurring in any latin speaking country. We also had to present the presentation in Spanish. This allowed us to look into events that aren't headlines here in the United States but are headlines for other parts of the world. I am proud of this assignment because I worked hard on this presentation and I made sure my grammar and sentence structure was correct. My mother also looked through my power point. This current event was also more personal to me because it was occurring near where my family lives. I felt more passionate about this current event and I was eager to present it to my peers. I actually did develop and/improve upon my 21st Century Skills by that I was able to gain a different perspective on the United States. I used to believe that the education system was terrible but in reality it's worse in other parts of the world. This project really...

...Surveillance Awareness Project A proposal prepared by Team Underachievers Shea Polansky Gabriela Cde Baca Jacob Nevarez Elliot Nicholas For Dr. Natasha Jones University of New Mexico 2014-10-21 Team Underachievers Memo TO:Dr. Natasha Jones FROM:Team Underachievers DATE:2014-10-7 SUBJECT:Proposal PURPOSE:To acquaint you with our proposal Dear Dr. Jones, Edward Snowden’s leaks about the National Security Agency’s mass surveillance programs created a global debate about privacy, security, and safety. The NSA has the capability to read email, snoop on private social network conversations, observe phone call records, and track the physical locations of citizens not charged nor suspected of any crime, without so much as a warrant. Worse, the demographic most affected this level of snooping on our digital lives, the 18-24 year-old college crowd, is the least knowledgeable and most politically apathetic about the issue. This is a recipe for disaster, and this proposal seeks funding for an awareness campaign that will address it. This campaign will raise awareness about mass surveillance and the Snowden disclosures. We will use posters and flyers to dry attention to the issue. We will use the University of New Mexico as a testing ground, using before and after surveys to gauge effectiveness. If the campaign proves successful, we will recruit volunteers and raise a second round of funding to bring the campaign to college campuses across...

...is to help professional socialization by instilling an understanding of the relevant ethical principles and standards to be a significant component in providing therapeutic rapports. ...pass an ordinance to raise fines for littering across our town. In continuing to unite the community of Burleson, keeping this city beautiful plays a major part. Littering is just one way in which our town becomes less unified, so I would fight to stop this disrespect of our city. I would also try to organize more money into a budget for making our city more beautiful. This budget would cover more landscaping and maintenance projects across the community. Another thing I would do as mayor would be to set aside more money in our budget to go towards our city’s drug awareness program. It is sad heart-breaking and devastating to see so many of our promising teenagers and young adults turning to drugs, alcohol, and substance abuse. In strengthening this program, more and more teenagers could become aware of their reckless behavior and the affects that come with the decisions they make. By bringing about this awareness in our youth we can ultimately create a generation of, honest, engaged, and active members of our community. All of these ideas factor into uniting our town...

...is much more global than it was just a few decades ago and everyday there are more and more transactions of goods and services between different countries. Each country has their own advantages and disadvantages and because of this trading between countries is mutually beneficial. Having never left the southeast United States, I would definitely benefit from this grant so that I could see the world and give myself a better understanding of how the future of business will be like. With so many countries being involved with each other exchanging goods and services, it is essential to understand how these relationships work and what makes these transactions run as smoothly as they do. With any international business you are involved with people that have different cultures and beliefs than your own. Observing and seeing these differences first hand can do nothing but help the way that one communicates with people from other countries that you may be involved with. Studying abroad will not only improve communication skills with people from other countries but it can also change the way that you view your own thoughts and beliefs by being aware of how other people in the world live. Being surrounded by people your entire life that have similar ideas and beliefs as your own, can shelter you from opposing views. Being able to witness first hand the way others live will allow me to have a better understanding of different cultures and how to best live in the growing global economy that...

...Problem: Aqualisa creates a new breakthrough shower- the Quartz. The product has significant improvements when compared with the other existing products on the market, such as: * Efficient and reliable water pressure and temperature * One touch control on the wall * Light signaling the right temperature is achieved etc * Installation of the Quartz was about half a day (vs. 2 days for other showers) Survey shows that consumers and plumbers loved the product. However, initial sales are low, mainly due to low consumer awareness and plumbers’ reluctance to new products. Where does the problem lie in the funnel? Consumers are uninformed about showers, with little understanding of the products options. Thus, plumbers have a greater influence when selecting the brand, as only in 27% of the times consumers select type and brand of the shower, otherwise plumbers influence on the purchase. Lack of knowledge leads to lack of brand awareness. Options: 1. Targeting consumers directly: -Expensive to have a proper ad campaign (costs 3 to 4 M Euro) - The consumers decide only 27% of the time (ex 4) +Consumers could become more brand aware +Easier to reach consumers than plumbers 2. Targeting Do-It- Yourselfers -Lower-end part of the market thus will be price conscious, have to lower prices -The brand will be perceived as a lower quality brand, due to the new niche market +Could “push” the product through partnership (B&Q) thus have lower costs than running...

...Stages of Ego Development Jillian Whalen PSY/230 June 20, 2014 Chris Allen Shreve Stages of Ego Development Jane Leovinger created a method of recognizing which stage of ego development one may be in at any given age. A verbal sentence completion test is implemented to help the participant understand more about which one of the nine stages of development she may be experiencing at the time and what she needs to do in order to move on to the next stage. Each stage explains what level of maturity, acceptance, and understanding one may be in at the time of test completion. They also help the individual understand their internal feelings about environmental factors surrounding them and how these factors form the ego. Loevinger notes that not everyone reaches self-actualization and many may be stuck at certain stages. Stage one – The Pre-Social and Symbolic Stage: Because this stage occurs at infancy, it is not as understood as well as other stages because the child is non-verbal and unable to complete the sentence completion test. An infant’s ego, according to Loevinger, is most interested in gratifying immediate needs, such as feedings and diaper changes. She also notes that infants form a close bond with their primary care giver. While the child recognizes she is a different entity from the world that surrounds her, she has trouble distinguishing her own identity from the caregiver. Stage two- The Impulsive Stage Loevinger describes this stage in relation...

...personal experience of this kind. The author of this article had a friend who was driving down a country road texting while driving. He swerved left of center and hit a box truck head on and died instantly. Everyone in high school at the time knew him so it was quite devastating to the entire student body. There were grief counselors on site for a couple weeks after he passed away. This incident shows how a simple act can instantly affect everyone so quickly. There are more and more texting while driving injuries and deaths happening every day. A lot of these injuries and deaths are in states with lenient texting while driving laws. If communities in the states with these lenient laws helped raise awareness, people may think twice before texting while driving and also raising awareness could possibly lead to the chance to change some laws. Some people believe texting while driving laws make people have to hide their texting behind the wheel, thus making it more dangerous (Masnick, 2012). Regardless of opinions, studies show that there is a significant difference in the number of violations between states with lenient laws and states with strict laws (Masnick, 2012). Texting while driving laws are not strict enough in certain states, making citizens of those states not take texting while driving laws serious, which could possibly cause more accidents and even death....

...Definition: We are interested in counseling and helping abandoned rape victims in India, and change the society's perception of them. So we are considering holding a fashion show to raise money and awareness of this forgotten issue in the feminists’ agenda. Current Condition: The reason we are considering our CSR is because raped women in India are facing some serious issues concerning their well-being and welfare, but they are incapable of confronting and overcoming them on their own (George, 2015). We have already done some CSR ideas in the past. For example, earlier in 2012, to boost awareness of the Mitochondrial Disease, we hosted The Chanel Pour le Temps Charity Fashion Show which was a standout amongst the most foreseen occasions of the year (Chanel Pour le, 2012). Moreover, in 2013, a fashion show was held in Paris' Grand Palais demonstrating eco-friendly supplies and handiwork for their recent cloth collection (Reynolds, 2013). Due to Chanel’s hiatus of CSR activities, the idea is to bring the company an incredible social impact by advertising its name in the midst of the ongoing social justice campaigns and feminism movements. As it is a trademark that is made for women and by a woman, it is important for us to help these neglected women defeat their fears and restore hope in their hearts. Course of Action: Beneficiaries We chose India, or rather specifically northern India, for our new CSR because in 2011 a total of 24,206 rape cases were registered...

As not being a native English speaker I was worried that either the members of the groups will take me into their groups. As the class began my tutor John asked us to write our names in a tag and wear it, we were also required to sit in away so that we are facing each other in the class. John then asked to start the first activity which was to introduce the member sitting in front of each of the students. My mate sitting in front of me was Liam and he is working in hospital as a part time employee. On the other hand Abdul sitting next to me is doing HR as major. I felt that by undertaking this activity john was trying to develop our team or classmates and build strong relationship within our group. The activity enabled students get to know each other and It was about to think which group or people I would join for the group task. Finally at the end of the class john formed us in a small group and also helped us to understand the unit outline. Reflecting & Inferring By being a part of the introductory class I realised that we were all in the same track and therefore we needed to introduce ourselves so that we can all reach our task. The first task was to form PLG(Peer Learning Group) which did require us to know each other so that we are...
