To introduce the importance of the global business environment within which organisations operate. To enable students to identify and recommend business decisions considering the changing components of the global business environment.



LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of this module students should be able to:

CONTENT


Determining the difference between needs and wants and their significance to economics and business. Three economic systems, planned, free and mixed economies and the implications of each system on business/ organisations and society. Market classifications and characteristics: consider competitive (perfect/ non perfect) and non competitive (Monopoly and oligopoly) systems and their impact on business decision making. Macro business environment applying political, economic, social and technological analysis (PEST). Equilibrium demand and supply analysis using diagrams and the relevance to business decision making. Government intervention legislation and the role and power of regulatory bodies such as OFWAT and OFCOM.

Assignment 2 Individual Presentation - worth 25% You are leading a team from a British company which is about to start a joint venture project with teams from Germany and Japan.
