...Job Principal: A Christian leader must never question his faith in God or God’s decisions. Key Verse: Job 42: 5-6 "My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." Explanation: The book of Job describes a man who had his faith in God put through numerous test. In the story of Job Satan questions Job’s faith in God . He believes that Job’s faith in God is only strong because God protected him from evils in life. Satan wanted to be allowed to test Job’s faith. God did allow for Satan to test Job’s faith but only within reason. When Job began to lose the things that he had once cherished so much in his life he began to question his faith in God. One of Job’s friends tells Job that he needed to remain strong in his faith especially at this time in his life. Job’s story provides a great lesson to Christian leaders about remaining strong in their faith. God may allow Satan to put his people through certain test in life but staying strong and remaining faithful to God is the key to surviving them. Christian leaders may encounter many obstacles during their leadership but they must never stray from God’s faith. Isaiah Principal: Key Verse: Isaiah 6:8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Explanation: The book of Isaiah is also referred to as The Book of Salvation. Isaiah served as a powerful prophet sent by God to warn his...

...When people approach the Bible without any concern for the historical-cultural context, their interpretation of what is written can be seriously misunderstood and lead them to form opinions and ideas other than what was originally intended. There is the danger of interpreting passages far too literally and missing the meaning that it holds for us today. Slavery is an excellent example of this. There are numerous references to slavery being acceptable in the bible. This was, unfortunately, a way of life then. However, that doesn’t mean that we should employ slavery, in any form, today, just because it was acceptable back then. In the Song of Solomon 4:1-4, Solomon proceeds to compliment his love with the following words: 1Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Mount Gilead. 2 Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing. Each has its twin; not one of them is alone. He was, stating that her hair was as beautiful as that of the long, flowing black hair of the goats as the sun shines off of their coats. At a time when dental hygiene wasn’t really a concern, this was quite a compliment, as he was commenting on how white and straight her teeth were. If someone were to comment on the state of our teeth today or refer to your hair as being that of a goat’s, it would be considered quite rude! From a modern aspect, his “compliments” don’t seem to get much better: 3 Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples...

...Cultural Diplomacy through Music ‘‘Who writes the Nation’s songs shapes the Nation’s souls,’’ said Abraham Lincoln. This quote is relevant to today’s crisis: the influence of music on our youth. Music has been known to influence those who listen since the end of the Industrial Revolution, when people had more leisure time and the demand for entertainment and amusement began to increase. This is significant because media has a powerful influence on society and affects how we dress, act, and think. In The Republic by Plato, Socrates argues against Thrasymachus’ idea that "Obedience to the interest of the stronger" will lead to a successful tyranny. Socrates believes that "justice is the excellence of the soul,” and that benevolence is the key to a successful state. Yet humans embody not only Apollo, the god of the sun, of dreams, and of reason but also, Dionysus, the god of wine, ecstasy and intoxication, both sons of Zeus. In Plutarch’s Moralia, it is suggested that the state allows society to live for their pleasure so that the state gains the power to control them. We are fighting a constant battle between the rational principle of the soul and the irrational or appetite. The state is determined to keep feeding the Dionysus in each of us in order to continue to control us. The music industry is a tool that is used to influence the youth to indulge in their desires through songs about violence, sex, misogyny and drug use. In the Socratic dialogue in The Republic, Adeimantus...

...Making a Dubstep song A lot people have either heard a dubstep song or know of at least one. Some people like them, but some don't. Hearing these songs I always wondered how hard is it to make one. It turns out having free time, computer skills, and some rhythm are all you need, well some computer First you'll need some great to get started. The first thing you need is a computer. A lot of dubstep is the sound effects. You need a fast computer with a lot of memory. If you want a Mac, make sure it has 1.8 GHz, with an Intel Processor 2-4 GB of RAM and is OSX 10.5 or later. If you want a PC, make sure it has 2GHz Pentium or Celeron processor 2-4 GB or RAM Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 a sound card with ASIO driver support. Next you'll need a music software, my favorite is GarageBand. The music software is used to prepare tracks, sample songs, mix and record. Other popular software is Fruity Loops, Cakewalk Sonar, and Renoise. You should strongly consider adding external hardware to the setup. Having a basic USB mic on hand to record vocals or raps is a good idea and good way to create new sounds to use. If you're at all interested in incorporating original found sounds or acoustic elements and manipulating them in your dubstep music, a solid microphone is a good idea. The next step is to learn about your equipment. Playing with the instruments you have on your computer can be a good way to familiarize yourself with...

...would push them in the ranks of major bands like Shinedown, Alterbridge, Three Days Grace, Five Finger Death Punch, and among other notable acts. With 7 songs written in late 2012, the band started writing and recording demos for various months. Despite, guitarist Keith Wallen leaving Adelitas Way in May of 2013 his departure did not stop the band from making their long anticipated release. The band’s original plan for Stuck was to release a total of 12 songs, 11 in your face songs and one song with a pop vibe a song called “Drive”. Pre-Production for the new record started on July 31st, 2013 with Nick Raskulenicz revealed as the producer. The band started recording in early September at a cabin in Rock Falcon Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. It wasn’t long until the band’s record label Virgin Records, got involved in the making of Stuck. After, reviewing the band’s track list and demos the label rejected the release of 2 songs “Undercover You” and “Deserve This”. Although the song “Drive” was the only intended track to have a pop side to it the label demanded new songs to be written that had a more alternative sound. Several New songs were written including the ballad “Undivided” and the melodic track “Something More” both songs were some of the last songs recorded and were added on Stuck to replace the 2 songs that were removed. For nearly 3 months the band vigorously worked on reinventing the new record in the way the label had ordered it to be making it more diverse...

...I believe that the music should never be limited, but some controversial songs that imply sex or describe dark emotion should be sold to adult only. Music is a way that people express their feeling and ideas. A free society will not forbid people saying and singing their real feeling. On the other hand, teenagers normally are not mature enough to determinate what should be learn and what should not. Thus, like some movies have PG-18 label, many songs need to prevent from buying by teenagers. The “Queen of Pop” Madonna had many controversial songs in the 1980s, but she successful and famous all over the world. Her songs such as “Open Your Heart” (1986) and “Like a Prayer” (1989) were considered immoral. In addition, her MV of “Justify My love”...

...“cherry-coloured headaches” is a teenage girl’s story about her experience with sexual assault and abuse. This story incorporates visuals created using watercolours and ink, and is based on true events that many people deal with on a regular basis (SEXUAL VIOLENCE DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE). Upon creating this story, I was inspired by video games, more specifically “The Crooked Man” and “Anxiety Attacks”. Both games incorporate mental illnesses into their plots and I’ve always admired art that tackles real-world issues and executes them in a realistic and respectful manner. Originally, “cherry-coloured headaches” was going to be made into a video game; maybe one day it will be. “Anxiety Attacks” simulates anxiety attacks (also known as panic attacks. Wow, look at me stating the obvious), and “The Crooked Man” is a video game that basically simulates depression and is based off of an old nursery rhyme. I watched a playthrough of it when I was younger, and haven’t forgotten the story since; it’s absolutely incredible and one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to my artwork. I wanted to create something that could simulate what it feels like to be sexually assaulted, without going through the authentic traumatic experience. I want people to see what genuinely goes through people’s minds, and how unexpected these scenarios can be. My intentions behind this piece are to bring attention and understanding to issues revolving around sexual violence; this includes sexual assault,...

...Most people might not think that a song about missing an old boyfriend could be similar to a story about a plant where it always rains. But there are atulay a lot of pieces of evidence that shows this. Both pieces of writing talk about wanting something they cant have. In both pieces of writing there are some differences. One piece of writing talks about a person, the other is about a song. The song Eyes closed by Halsey and All Summer in a Day are the similar because, both Halsey and the kids on Venus both want something they cant have. One reason Eyes Closed and All Summer in a Day are similar is because on paragraph 11 line 2-10. ...to narrow my thoughts on to why do people hear certain songs and what does it mean to them? Song lyrics have more importance for some than for others as in the general populous (Buser, Flannery, Bentley & Gladding, 2005, p. 90). I want to know how important are those lyrics and its messages are to the general music hearing population. Buser, Flannery, Bentley & Gladding conducted a study by surveying 28 graduate students in counseling on the meaning of lyrical music in their lives. Their results showed that some songs were more popular or better remembered than others. Their data also showed that while some lyrics are personally meaningful and others conveyed important messages, a number of lyrics are just relaxing, joyful, and entertaining without a deeper level of significance to them. Although their data had its limitations with only surveying 28 graduate students in counseling, and the majority of those being female does limit the study’s findings. It still shows us what few people see in songs and the meaning that the lyrics are trying to convey onto their audience. 1. Does genre determine the depth of lyrics? a. As stated in the article that most of those song on the billboards top 20 are that of a rock and roll genre, and with that in mind I started wondering does the genre determine the depth and soul of the lyrics? Without lyrics a song is nothing and with the wrong lyrics the song can be worth nothing, but is their a difference in meaningful...

...the team. Each member of staff brings the ones that they think are suitable to the final session. The best songs/compositions always shine through, * What type of music typically works best for placement? It depends what type of sync it is – most genres can work- jazz is difficult though. The music submitted has to be broadcast quality. Upbeat positive music works for ads for example. Anything with reference to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol is a no no. So if there is a great song with these references then it is always good to have a ‘clean’ version. * What kind of artist/songwriter should consider working with a company like Respect? We are interested with artists with great songs for sync or songs that could be pitched for other artists. * You pitched Anthony Salari’s song to Jane By Design. How does a pitch like that work? We submitted the song to the supervisor and she came back to us to say that she loved the song and was considering it for the show. The producer got to hear it and even set it as her personal ringtone. A few weeks later we received and email from the supervisor saying that they wanted to use the song and we negotiated a sync fee. After that it all happened very quickly. We cleared both sides for publishing and master within hours. 24/7 availability for clearance is imperative – that’s what we are good at. We then rush released the song ‘Stupid Pretty Girl’ out on the Respect Music label and signed a worldwide digital distribution...

...(David Foral), a vocalist/guitarist (Dustin “Duddy B”) and a singer/song writer (Jared “Dirty J” Watson). The style of music that they play is reggae with a mix of hip hop, ska punk, and So Cal style. They were the main event but Pyrex and Ease Up also performed during the concert. During the concert, TDH performed a number of amazing songs. My favorite four that they played are as follows; 1. Cabin by The Sea: This was my most favorite song that they played. It is a very mellow and relaxed song. The song is all about having the time of your life by the sea. It’s about relaxing and being yourself around your friends. It’s about expressing yourself and completely being at peace. It paints a picture of a fun night at the beach with your friends and completely being happy. I love that it kept repeating, “Our friends are all around and the storm was an ocean, they say we look better in a black and white photo”. To me, this truly expresses that you don’t have to worry about your troubles at the moment, just take a step back to admire life and have fun and remember it. This song is all about enjoying yourself and relaxing. The tempo of this song is very slow and upbeat, the texture was polyphony and the melody was soothing. I was really impressed because the band sounded even better in person than they did in recording, which is really hard to come by now a days. 2. Spread Too Thin: To me, this song is all about so caught up in your life that you don’t even know what...

...her vision and dropped her before the completion of her album. Perry's commercial breakthrough came in 2008 when she released her first mainstream studio album “One of the Boys.” This was preceded by the release of her first single "I Kissed a Girl". Several successful singles followed thereafter. “Fireworks” was released on October 16, 2010 by Capitol Records as the third single from the album “Teenage Dreams”. This song was considered by Perry as the most important song for her on the album. The song is a self-empowerment anthem with inspirational lyrics regarding participation, public speaking, awareness and exercise of rights, and many more factors that promote individuality. To say this in another way, this song is about the breaking of personal limitation that seem to hold people back. A plastic bag being blown through the wind is aimless and has no control of where it’s going. Katy Perry paints the same picture in her lyrics when she writes that “Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again?” The plastic bag in her song is an allusion to the American Beauty movie and a simile because she compares a person to a plastic bag. Plastic bags blown through the wind have no direction. This is so true to some people with no goals, ambitions and sometimes no ideas of what to do with life. The artist was referring to people who felt like they did not have control of their life but needed a second chance. A house of cards can be an example...

...Midterm Paper Many artists base their songs on past experiences in their life. Many of them are happy, sad, controversial, and at times have no meaning to them. One particular artist has many of these themes hidden away in her music. Grimes is a renowned artist known for her Indie music. With her ethereal and ambient sounding tones, it is hard to differentiate actual lyrics and when her voice is actually the rhythm that is being heard in her music. Her song Oblivion is perhaps one of her most understandable when it comes to lyrics. Her song Oblivion has a story, poetic themes, and imagery. Grimes' Oblivion has story engrained in her lyrics. When the song starts, it has an upbeat electronic tempo in the begging. It sounds as though, it would not have any lyrics because of its heaviness. The first line of the song is as if it is an event going on in that moment. It’s almost like a moment in her life which she is recalling. Grimes sings (2012)"And now the walk about, after dark." It is assumed she is walking about at night. The she goes on to say "It’s my point of view", which assumes she has an opinion on walking about at night. It is confirmed when she goes on to say (2012)"If someone could break your neck. Coming up behind you, always coming and you'd never have a clue". That line is very gruesome, so there may be some underlying context to that line. Perhaps Grimes was assaulted at some point in her life or is making a general statement, that it is not safe at night. "Oblivion"...
