...THE ROLES OF COLLEGE GUIDANCE COUNSELORS IN CALABARZON: IMPLICATIONS TO GUIDANCE PROGRAM AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION M. H. A. SEMIRA Batangas State University Gov. Pablo Borbon Campus I, Rizal Avenue, Batangas City ABSTRACT The study was undertaken to identify and assess the roles of college guidance counselors in CALABARZON and its implications to the schools guidance program and school administration. According to Erford (2003), the transformative roles of school counselors were leaders, advocates, collaborators, counselors and coordinators and data utilizers. Likewise, Kuhn (2004) explained that better understanding of the roles of guidance counselors diminished some of the misconceptions and confusions of the counselors’ roles. The above-mentioned roles were reflective of the American culture that is why the present study utilized the guidance counselors’ roles presented by De Jesus (2006) which was based on Philippine context. Findings revealed that the guidance counselors highly recognized their roles as counselor, coordinator, consultant, conductor of activities, and change agent. Thus, they were contributory to the effective implementation of the guidance programs in every college or university in the region under study. INTRODUCTION The roles of school counselors have changed dramatically over time. As the 20th century began, school counselors did not exist. Instead teachers were using few minutes of their day to provide students with vocational...

...Most employees want to work for Jonathan because he regularly assigns his employees different duties each week so they don’t get bored. Most of the employees under Jonathan including Stephanie are satisfied with their jobs and the way they are treated. Dan in contrast prefers for most of his employees to work in the same area each day and insists employees have shorter lunch breaks, than the amount of time allotted in the company policy. The Path-Goal Theory of Leadership The path-goal theory of leadership defines the role of a leader as one who outlines the goals and lays down the path for the subordinate to facilitate success and completion of the goals. The leader empowers the group to reach their goals, and ensures that they share an awareness of what those goals are. The path-goal theory centers on the motivational factors of the subordinates by showing employees how their accomplishments directly affects their reception of expected rewards (Certo& Certo 345). The path-goal theory suggests that the leaders under this theory possess four styles of leadership which are directive behavior, supportive behavior, participative behavior and achievement behavior. With directive behavior the leader lets followers know what is expected of them and tells them how to perform their tasks. In supportive leadership, the leader is friendly and shows interest in the followers as fellow human beings and the leader also shows concern for the followers’ personal needs. Participative behavior...

...Consumer Motivation - SUMMARY Motivation is the driving force within individuals that impels them to action. This driving force is produced by a state of uncomfortable tension, which exists as the result of an unsatisfied need. All individuals have needs, wants, and desires. The individual’s subconscious drive to reduce need-induced tensions results in behavior that he or she anticipates will satisfy needs and thus bring about a more comfortable internal state. Motivation can be either positive or negative. Innate needs—those an individual is born with—are physiological (biogenic) in nature; they include all the factors required to sustain physical life (e.g., food, water, clothing, shelter, sex, and physical safety). Acquired needs—those an individual develops after birth—are primarily psychological (psychogenic); they include love, acceptance, esteem, and self-fulfillment. All behavior is goal oriented. Goals are the sought-after results of motivated behavior. The form or direction that behavior takes—the goal that is selected—is a result of thinking processes (cognition) and previous learning (e.g., experience). There are two types of goals: generic goals and product specific goals. A generic goal is a general category of goal that may fulfill a certain need; a product-specific goal is a specifically branded or labeled product that the individual sees as a way to fulfill a need. Product-specific needs are sometimes referred to as wants. For any innate or acquired...
