...Melissa English 100 October 21, 2013 Argument Essay Who are we to say there is no God? Werner Heisenberg once said "The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you." Even a man whose life focus was science and explaining how things worked believed in a Power greater than himself. Heisenberg was a genius and his theories couldn't explain away God. Although some say that the wonders of mother nature can be explained by scientific facts I believe the presence of God is all around us. Atheists argue that suffering and war come from religion but God is loving and all-inclusive; it is people in the religions that cause the suffering not God. Even though Austin Cline believes there are too many religions and different God's to go with them all (page 71) ; I believe the other gods are pleasing to mans desire. A true God would be contrary to flesh and be on a much holier level thus proving man made to please themselves. These man made gods are made of wood stone and iron made by mans hands. God has never had a graven image or a name like they do. "There Is No God" by Sam Harris gives the example of hurricane Katrina as proof there is no God (page 72). Harris uses the point that if there is a God "what was he doing while a hurricane wasted their city?" For one thing, such events shake our confidence in this life and force us to think about eternity. Churches are usually filled after disasters...

...For all the times I felt cheated, I complained You know how I love to complain For all the wrongs I repeated, though I was to blame I still cursed that rain I didn't have a prayer, didn't have a clue Then out of the blue God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why Now I do, 'cause God gave me you For all the times I wore my self pity like a favorite shirt All wrapped up in that hurt For every glass I saw, I saw half empty Now it overflows like a river through my soul From every doubt I had, I'm finally free I truly believe God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why Now I do, 'cause God gave me you In your arms I'm someone new With ever tender kiss from you Oh must confess I've been blessed God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why (didn't know why) Now I do (I finally do), 'cause God gave me you (God gave me You) God gave me...

...When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God." When you love you should believe that you are in his/her heart. For me these quotations teach us to have trust in our love once just like when giving trust in God. Trust is the very thing that everybody in this world desires, or at least should desire from one another. Who wants to have a friendship or relationship without trust? Nobody does. Without trust, there is no friendship, and without friendship, there is no love. I believe that trust is an even greater compliment than to be loved! I believe George Macdonald said it best when he stated "To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved." When I read this quote for the first time, I thought to myself, "Wow that is so true. How can you be loved if you are not trusted first?" It is a special thing to be trusted by someone. Having trust is very important. It’s a big part in a relationship. Being truthful is the key to establishing trust in any type of relationship. In a romantic type of relationship, jealousy can be a major cause for a lack of trust. Both parties must have trust. In any case of relationship, trust is built, earned, and maintained. For example: If you had an ex who cheated on you, you might start experiencing trust issues in relationships with others especially when you get close to one another. It may be difficult and you may end up not being able to trust the other person. When someone loses your trust...

...You can say nothing meaningful about God. Discuss (35) Ayer believed that ‘No sentence which describes the nature of a transcendent God can possess any literal significance’ therefore according to Ayer we cannot say anything meaningful about God. Through the verification principle, he demonstrates that all religious statements are meaningless, because for any statement to be meaningful it must be empirically verifiable for example the statement “Jesus is the light of the world”; is meaningless as there is no way to verify this. Ayer used the strong verification principle to reject any talk of ethics, metaphysics, historical and even scientific claims as they work in probability rather than certainty. The strong verification principle only regarded statements to have meaning if they could be tested in the past, present and future using sense or empirical measures to find the conclusion. Therefore statements such as “Jesus resurrected on the third day” would be seen as meaningless as we cannot test this claim in the here and now. Once again this stresses the fact that we cannot say anything meaningful about God using the strong verification principle as we cannot physically see him in our present time. This principle criticised itself because it not only meant that we could say nothing meaningful about God but also past historical events since we are unable to verify their certainty. However the weak verification principle allows statements to have meaning if the means to which...

...It is important to know what you believe so you can make the correct decisions in life based on your personal values, and judge the best way to solve problems in your life. It is also important to know what you believe so if questioned you can intelligently address the concern. If you KNOW you can present the inquisitor with facts so they can evaluate them for themselves. My Beliefs 1.) I believe in God. He is the creator of all things including me. The world and everything in it is so intricate it could not have happened by chance or evolved over billions of years. 2.) I believe the Bible is the word of God. I believe this because the Bible meets the needs of all mankind. If you need comfort, love, forgivness, or faith you can find some verse or chapter to address the need. I also believe the Bible because I have accepted Jesus into my life and have faith that that the Bible is true. 3.) I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in him also because of faith. Jesus died in order to forgive us of our sins. Just because I cannot see him it does not mean he is not real. No matter what I am going through I know he’s there. If I need healing I pray and believe in him. If I need guidance in making a decision I ask and trust he will guide me. The hard part is to remain patient while waiting for him to show me the answers I seek. While waiting I keep praying to stay close to him. ...

...TWENTY REASONS YOU MUST GIVE THANKS TO GOD BY PASTOR T.O.BANSO Text: Psalm 124:1-8 Giving thanks is a practice that does not come to many people easily because when they look at their lives, they believe there is nothing worth thanking God for. They convince themselves that thanking God may be right for those who God has showered His blessings on but not right for them. Even God knows He is yet to do anything for them so thanking Him will embarrass Him! But this is not correct if considered in-depth. There is no one who does not have a reason to thank God. When we can not think, we cannot not thank! A thoughtful person will be a thankful person. A man grumbling and complaining that he has no shoe will thank God when he sees a man without legs! A lady who thinks she does not have good clothes will thank God when she sees another insane lady naked! Often times, many of us are ungrateful for God’s kindnesses and manifold blessings in our lives. We are so concerned about what is yet to happen that we fail to see what has happened. We remember so constantly answers to prayers that are yet to manifest that we forget answers to prayers we are already enjoying. Oh how ungrateful we often are! We regularly violate God’s instruction concerning giving thanks. “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord...

...KINGDOM OF GOD The book of Matthew every time is describing the Kingdom its speaks of the kingdom of Heaven, but in the rest of the gospel its talk about the kingdom of God they are all the same the kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven are all the same, the reason Matthew and Jude could not raise the kingdom of God was that, judge were very careful when they call the name of God, but the gentles were free to speak about the name of God, and it was not an offence to God, this morning I want to share with you fresh mandate to advance the Kingdom of God, when ever God calls a people to any particular task he also affanishes he also make available the things that will make that person succeed and this morning am here to inform somebody that for every task, for everything the Lord has call you to do, he has also sufficient power, he has also sufficient gifting to enable you and to give it to you for you to succeed and so am here to declare to somebody that for the marriage that God has call you into because it is the callings of God upon your life for this moment God has made provision in all provision for you to succeed for the business that God has call you into, God has made certain provision that will enable you t succeed for the task in that office for that task in that nation, for that task in that community, for that task whichever it takes and whatever it takes, that God has call you into am here to inform you do not give up do not despair for he who has call you, he is able...

...transformation from which they emerge in the realized oneness of god, ourselves and all things. Although I am not God, I am not other than God either. That there is a oneness that wholly pervades the divisions and fragmentations of our lives, and the realization of this oneness the divisions and fragmentations loses their tyranny over our heart for we live in the intimate experience of the oneness that wholly pervades the divisions and fragmentations. And they live with a sense of joy and sense of freedom from fear, that fear has no foundations, a sense of peace in the midst of life as it is. Its not the peace that’s dependent on the outcome of our efforts to have the situation turn out the way we want it to. Rather it is a peace that invincibly pervades the whole process and the outcome itself regardless of the outcome. Mystics bear witness to this realized oneness with a sense of respect even reverence for life, for all things, manifested most concretely as love. As the Buddhists say, compassion is the body of emptiness, Aquinas, charity is the form of faith, that love is the shape of our faith, that faith configures itself as love. The mystic is hidden in the world as God is hidden in the world, but some are called upon to be mystic teachers, called upon to offer guidance and encouragement to us who feel interiorly called to this path of realized oneness. To be amazed and humbled that this applies to you, to be interiorly awakened in this way to this oneness and to live...

...What would you say to me if I told you that I do not believe in “words.” More than likely you are thinking, “Are you kidding me? That is foolish. You don’t believe in words? Come on! That is ridiculous!” Everyone believes that words exist. It would be foolish to pull out a dictionary and to try to prove to the person that makes such a claim that words exist. It is clear that He is, as we examined last month, suppressing a truth that is evident to all. He is a fool. He instead needs to be shown how foolish and contradictory such a claim is. It is self-refuting. You cannot claim that words do not exist without using them. This is what we must show this person to show them how ridiculous a statement this is. What do we say when someone says they do not believe in God? Do we respond in the same way? Not usually. Usually we respond by trying to give a list of evidences to the truth that God exists, when the Bible says that they already know that God exists. Instead, we should be responding with the same attitude that we would respond with if someone said they didn't believe in words. Just as the person who is suppressing the truth about the existence of words, so to is the one who claims that God does not exist. Remember what God says in Romans 1 (which we looked at last week)? Everyone is without excuse for rejecting the God they know exists. They are foolish for doing so. You cannot even make the argument that God does not exists unless God DOES exist, let alone prove it. This...

...Our life has a Destiny. There is no Accident. God has Great Plan for our life. God’s Game Plan (Sport game?)I realized that when we play team game sports, it is important to have a game plan. In order for you to be victorious in a game, there must be a plan. God has a game plan in our life. But the problem is we also have our own plan. The same with our life we need to learn to follow the game plan of God in our life for us to be victorious and successful. Pero ang tanong is kaya ba natin mag follow and submit sa gameplan ng panginoon sa life naten? But the problem to many Christian’s today is that have our own game plan. Pero kahit anong gawin natin ang plano parin ng diyos ang mananaig sa life natin. Psalms 33:11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Whatever the plan that we have, it will never change the plan of God.- Many People bargain the plan of God because we thought we can change the plan of God.- Tapos nagtataka ka bakit kung bakit yung life mo hindi victorious, kasi hindi mo iniimbrace ang plano ng Lord sa life mo. Kasi feeling natin mas matalino tayo kay Lord. (revised version) - Isaiah 55:8-9 We could compare the plan of God in our plan it is different (napakalayo) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. - 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts...

...can be used as well. Many people believe that the God of the Old Testament is different from the God of the New Testament, but that is a false belief. The God of the Holy Bible is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. He is eternal and he is unchanging. The gospel can be taught through the name of God that are found in the Old Testament. One of the most known names of God is Adonai. Adonai means the Lord. Its application to the Bible is that God has total authority and is the master. “‘I went by you again and looked at you. You were old enough to make love to. So I spread my robe over you, and covered your naked body. I promised to love you, and I exchanged marriage vows with you. You became mine, declares Adonay Yahweh” (Ezekiel 16:8) In this verse God is telling Israel that they are His people and He promises to love them. He is exerting his total authority over His people....

...On the Night You Were Born II Kings 17:6-14 and Luke 15:17-24 Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque August 29, 2010 Beloved of God, do you know, have you ever wondered what happened on the night you were born. My family story holds that somewhere around the end of August in 1956 Dr. E.L.C. Broomes told my Mother not to get her hopes too high. After all, this was her fifth pregnancy, and though she had finally moved beyond the 30 week mark, she still had many weeks to go and she should not get her hopes too high. There was no guarantee this baby would make it. But then, on the evening of October 30th, sometime after dinner, something within my mother moved, something within her said, it is time and all the world stood still for my parents, all of the world held its breath. I do not know what thoughts ran through my mother’s mind or my father’s heart in those hours before I was born; but I know once I had arrived, once they held me in their arms, they began to rejoice. Nancy Tillman, in her book On the Night You Were Born, gives voice to the rhythm of words that might have been spoken on night you and I were born:1 On the night you were born the moon smiled with wonder. The stars peeked in to see you, all safe and tucked under And the night wind whispered and called you by name And said with a sigh, life will never be the same So enchanted with you were the wind and the rain They too whispered the sound of your wonderful name. Your name sailed past houses, high on the breeze Over oceans and mountains...
