My name Allison Soucy and I'm a soon to be graduate of Van Buren Secondary District High School with the goal of attending college to obtain my Ph.D. in psychology. Like hundreds of thousands of the other high schoolers all over the nation time to decide which college I should attend is running out. As I have evaluated each college the main factor in which college I choose comes down to the price tag attached to each college. Unfortunately, my first choice college, University of Maine, seems to be out of my price range.
So, this is why I am here today. At first I thought the idea to raise money for college on a gofundme page was a ridiculous idea. I mean, who would want to spend their hard earned money to give it away to some random girl on the internet to help her pay for college? Then I thought, what do I have to lose, right? When I was in 8th grade I developed an eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, that not only almost took my life, but sports, fun, friendships, and time away from me. During my first two years of high school, I spent a great deal of time in and out of hospitals and treatment centers while I battled the hardest fight I've had in my short life. After reaching a stable point in my recovery I was able to return home and attend the last two years of high school without any hospitalizations. Although those years were a very dark time in my life I wouldn't change them for the world. It is those days, weeks, and months that make my dream of becoming a psychologist that much more important to me. I would like the opportunity to help others girls and guys who are struggling, right now, today as I have in the past. By attending college and receiving the best education I can will allow me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those whom struggle with eating disorders, which I cannot do without the proper
