...There are many different reasons why I want to go to college. The main reason is to become successful in my career. The main step towards achieving my goal is going to college and graduating. In today's society most careers are looking for people with a degree. There are many careers that do not require you to go to college, but many of the careers that you can be successful in requires a degree. It is very important for me to go to college because I will be a first generation college student. I want to make my family proud and I know I can do it. ...Every since I was a child, I have dreamed of going to college, but as I grew older, I realized the difficulties of going to college. My parents themselves never finished high school. My father did not even complete middle school, he had to drop out in order to help his family financially. I had to undergo all these processes with no help from my parents since they knew nothing on the subject. Not only that, but the price of college discouraged me from going. I did not want to burden my family with the expenses of going into college since my family qualifies under the low income category and there have been several instances where my father has been unemployed. This feeling worsened when my sister went to college and I had to see my parents struggle to support her. College started to seem like a burden rather than an educational opportunity to better myself and an investment in my future. This year I have been blessed with the opportunity of being able to attend college thanks to the community that helps support high school students who plan to pursue a higher education. Nonetheless, I still feel that my education is a burden on my family financially and next year even...

...your want to be and where do you want to go to college, and frankly none of us have a clue. As we grow up we are expected to know who and what we want to be. I’ve always believed that college wasn’t necessary and it was just extra schooling but, now I know how crucial College is. High School is a place where they help you get used to college life and make the transition easier. They want to help us minimize our problems and worries that come with College so they treat us as if were already in college. Everyone is going to have some challenges when they go to College and it’s going to be different for every individual. I know some of my challenges will be: time managment, giving each class 100% effort, and making sure I don’t switch my major more than once. I can see myself overcoming these challenges by what I have learned from my life experience and what High School taught me....

...Making choices is one of the hardest things to do in life. One of the hardest things I have to do every day is make decisions. The decisions I make every day are simply like what am I going to wear today, what do I want to eat, and how am I going to wear my hair. These decisions I make are so simple, but I am now at the point in my life where I have to make a big decision that will make a lifelong impact on my life. I have to make the decision of where I am going to go to college. At this point I have found interest in the location, tuition, scholarships/ financial aid, and requirements from the University of South Carolina Upstate, the University of South Carolina, or the University of South Carolina Union that will make a lifelong impact...

There is little dispute today that the number of students who have debt has increased, and that the amount of money they have borrowed has gone up (Billitteri). Many students incur large amounts of debt that will never pay dividends in higher wages or greater job satisfaction, and they graduate into a world with weak employment prospects. It's a betrayal of the American social contract that says if you work hard and invest in yourself through education, you'll be able to build a better life. The current system is badly in need of an overhaul, and this paper will present...

...sounded like they'd be useful when writing a paper on the topic. The first two that I chose to visit were findarticles.com and wiki.answers.com. Wiki.answers.com literally gave a one sentence definition of what is believed to be academic dishonesty. Findarticles.com gave a short and simple description on academic dishonesty in online courses and provided a few links to articles about academic dishonesty. Those articles gave very little information on plagiarism and other terms defining academic dishonesty. One of the articles only informed a person about using correct citations in a paper and it was only six to eight sentences long. As with google.com, ask.com provided many links to many different colleges and academic institutions. I'm looking for academic integrity, not links to colleges, or links to different colleges' guidelines on their ideas on academic integrity (although they could somewhat prove to be useful). One thing that I was hoping for were statistics (real case studies) on academic dishonesty in higher learning. I did a search using ask.com for statistics on academic dishonesty. A lot of data was found, but it's accuracy is undetermined for most of the websites provided. Within a library or an academic online library, I know that the information provided is going to be from professionals and individuals who are evaluated by their peers in the same profession. I will be able to find published articles, papers, and books with guaranteed...

...Research Paper on Suicide People commit suicide everyday in the world. It is an ugly but truthful thing in the world as we know it today. Some people's situations put them in a more likely position to commit suicide. Many people commit suicide for many different reasons. A big reason people commit suicide is because of family problems. A person's family has a huge impact on an individual's life. Children that experience family problems such as their parents getting divorced are more likely to commit suicide. Children that get abused or neglected are also a lot more likely to take their own life. Most children that are put into these situations feel that they have no where to go for help. Most try to communicate their feelings to others but they don't get the necessary help needed. These children probably feel very confused and very alone at such a young age that they resort to suicide. Carol Watkins a M.D. states that "Social isolation" is a major factor for suicide (2). Some people also commit suicide because they want to rebel against their family. They do this because they don't want to deal with the authority of their family. Some feel that they would rather die than deal with that authority. __________________________________________________________ We Can Write Custom Research Papers on Suicide for You! __________________________________________________________ Problems with people's relationships can also be a reason that people commit suicide. ...College Athlete Compensation: Primary Research Review Phillip Richard Cross Oakland University Rochester, MI Abstract This primary research paper explores the topic of college athletics, and if student athletes receive fair compensation for their sporting services. As to how this question was answered, it was conducted with two separate interviews. One of them was with Ben Anderson, my former varsity basketball coach, and also Matt Okaiye, a close friend who plays college football at Michigan State. The main findings of this research was that college athletes receive a great deal of fair compensation, as scholarships and publicity are the primary focus to why. For athletic scholarships, we see that the student athletes receive numerous amnesties and benefits that compensate them extremely well. Publicity is the same way, as the athletes have a large amount of attention on them which leads to economic and compensated value. This research will ultimately lead to the final project which will be on the argument that college athletes should not be paid. College Athlete Compensation The notion of paying college athletes has been an ongoing debate for decades. With college sports continuing to gain popularity and revenue increasing for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), people have questioned whether college athletes should be benefited beyond their athletic scholarships. The question is, do college athletes receive fair enough compensation for their services...

The only time I was assigned a major research project was in my senior year of high school. I went to one of the specialty schools in the Richmond Public Schools system. Two of the requirements for graduation was the freshman paper and the senior thesis. Looking back, I remember how hard I was struggling in completing my freshmen paper. It was about the effects of the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. The 10 page paper required extensive research with 350 flashcards, 3 drafts, and a class trip to the Chesapeake Bay at the end of...

...Meeting My Goals – Research Paper Jeffery Fholer ITT-Technical Institute Meeting my Goals: Better Note-taking/Studying Techniques To be a more successful college student and in turn a more productive employee, I have found I need to learn more effective note taking/studying techniques. As I started my research for this project, I found there are a million-and-one ways to better study and take good notes. Some are actual studies completed by renowned universities and others are merely guides written by persons based off of their personal experience. The first source I selected “Taking Notes: 5 College Success Tips” was posted by Dennis G. Jerz as submitted to him by one his Technical Writing Students Vivinette K. Dietsche. In her paper, Dietsche outlines five basic principles that are beneficial when it comes to taking notes: go to class prepared, improve your listening skills, develop a note taking method that works for you, pay close attention to content and review and edit your notes. Going to class prepared can be as simple as ensuring you have all the supplies i.e., paper, binders and writing instruments necessary to complete assignments. Also covering the course material before showing up to class will give you a better idea what is going on in the day’s lesson plan. Improving your listening skills is crucial in understanding what is being taught. Dietsche talks about having what we called in the military...

...After walking on to the campus for the first time I accepted that this place will be my home for the next two years and I was going to make the best of it. With not having too many friends and out of school for a year I quickly decided to make my friends and family in my very congested new home. Like anyone would say starting college was not easy and my experience was no different. After getting accepted to BCC in mid-August by doing a late direct admission, it was the beginning of a long and tumultuous road. There was an initial hassle with financial aid and me waiting in a 3-hour line, then back to admissions. It was a long day. When I got into Bronx Community College (BCC), I had to do the placement test, just like any other student and...

...My Self Evaluation I am writing this paper as a self-evaluation of myself as a writer and my growth in writing as a college student. College is something many people try to tackle in their lifetime and also a fear many people never tackle during their life. At eighteen years old I was one of those people fearful to become a college student and because of that I did not attend college until I was twenty one years old. When attending my first semester of college I thought that the English class I attended that semester would be the only English class I would have to attend throughout my college experience and the only form of writing I would have to tackle. Little did I know that it was only the beginning of my journey with writing? When starting English 102 I was very nervous not only knowing that there would be an extremely long and time consuming paper involved but also the numerous comments I’ve heard about how hard the class truly is. One of those comments being that the national average drop rate for the course was a 60%. During my first night in class we were informed that our first paper would be a website evaluation. I was frightened just starting...

...disadvantages it has for me and today’s society. Most of us feel very at ease and confident using the Internet. Reason being, it doesn’t take up your time opposed to going to the librarys to find books , or look though the directory to find chronicles, articles or bulletin information, may seem to be time consuming. So why would you use those resources? What benefits would the library resources have over the Internet resource? One big advantage of resources, is the library over free Internet resources is that they’ve been considered. Books in the library and editorials in the database have been within an evaluation process that gives some assertion of credibility and accuracy. Since anyone can put no matter what on the Internet, the only assessment a website is obtainable to go through is the one that you do, determining whether or not to use it for your convenience. Let’s say I was writing an essay for my English class on a medical deficiency called Lupus. I would utilize Google to find sources of information for my term paper. The surfing would result with many returns and hits. How many hits do you commonly look through? Maybe 40 to 80? Obviously not, most of us scroll through the first few sites, which is almost unquestionably eminence information that we could utilize for a college essay. Question is how long will it take to find the correct information? There’s really no...

Lee Bollinger (defendant) was president of the University of Michigan. Grutter filed this suit because the University had discriminated against the basis of race. Supreme Court ruled that the use of affirmative action in school admissions is constitutional if it treats race as some factor. Is affirmative action still necessary for guaranteeing equal access to educational opportunities at elite universities and graduate schools? Should admissions decisions be based solely on academic criteria and merit? Key Words: affirmative action, Grutter V. Bollinger, and diversity. Grutter V.
