Case Study on MICO
Relevant Facts
MICO is a high-end boutique which caters in promoting and selling specialized garments. Owned by Mia Urquico, which was established in 1987 after she took over her brother’s shop. Mia started her styling and designing venture back in college where she would work on her classmates during breaks. She started getting inspired by ideas she’d see from magazines but eventually developed her own style and the designs would just come to her. She also got inspired with designs from different countries and cultures that she get exposed to from all of her travelling.
The main branch is located at Shangrila which happens to be their first shop as well. Soon enough, they expanded their reach by opening a store at Festival Mall Alabang and Eastwood Quezon City.
MICO sells a variety of clothes: ranging from dresses, blouses, evening and prom gowns to blazers, sleeveless and long-sleeved shirts, suits, barong and wedding gowns. Although, their flagship product was the party dresses which happen to sell more to their customers.
MICO’s visibility to the public was most likely due to word-of-mouth. Mia already worked on designs for different high-end clients, one of which was Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
MICO thrives on uniqueness for their brand. Materials are often bought outside the country during her trips abroad making their designs truly one-of-a-kind.
When it comes to cost consideration, their prices would considered to be lower compared to different high-end brands selling around the metro.
Statement of the Problem * Limited reach and customers. * Limited visibility and is less known compared to other brands.
Objectives
* To expand target market and increase sales. * To improve on marketing and making the brand more known around the Metro.
Analysis
Strengths | Weaknesses | * Materials being bought outside the country making product unique which remains the brand’s strongest selling point. * Variety of product sold. * Previous transactions with high-end people that would help MICO extend its network of customer as possible. * Main branch located at the middle of Ortigas district. | * Still a bit pricey for regular people. * Limited number of stores. | Opportunities | Threats | * Limited advertising to help the brand be known to a greater number of people. | * Growing competition between other brands. |

Core Concepts
To effectively know your strength and what makes you better than your competitor is a good strategy in all kinds of business. If you know what makes your business stand out, you can use that in your advantage and invest more on your strengths to make your brand well known. In the case of MICO, it’s already established that they are selling one-of-a-kind items which I personally think is good because they can convince people to buy them due to the fact that no one or a less (by less we mean at least 3 heads) percentage of people would have the same design as theirs.
However, the challenge I am seeing is that MICO is not a household brand. To improve on their sales, they have to take risk and invest on marketing strategies that would make them more visible which would eventually lead to expanding their network of customers.
Alternatives
A. Invest in Advertising such as TVC, billboard etc.
Advantages:
* Would increase visibility of the brand to the masses * Easiest way to get people’s buy-in compared to “just” depending on word of mouth
Disadvantages:
* Costly: Considering getting an endorser and paying for the production of the material.

B. Invest in adding stores in highly commercialized malls such as SM and Robinsons.
Advantages:
* Would increase visibility of the brand to the masses * Stores will become more accessible compared to being limited to three shops only
Disadvantages:
* Brand will be too commercialized * Can also get costly C. Go on sale. Offer discounts.
Advantages:
* Best way to get people’s buy-in * Increase number of customers
Disadvantages:
* Slow profit return D. Create a website where people can purchase their items online.
Advantages:
* Increase visibility of the brand * Convenient for many customers
Disadvantages:
* Risk of getting bad comments online which can affect people’s perception about the product
Recommendation
MICO is already a brand that can produce quality goods so that’s already a go. But in order for them to increase their sales, MICO has to be more visible first. The best possible action to take from the alternatives above is to invest on different advertising tactics. Once they gain customer’s interest, a lot of people will then visit their store with one mind-set in mind: In order for them to get that one dress that is unique and would fit well.
Roll-out Plan
By now, I would like to assume that Urquico already has connection to different people who can help her with advertising. Given that most of the people that she’s dealing with are business executives, she can start printing out flyers which can be placed at these customer’s workplace. Also, with a strong connection to influential people, she can probably get an endorser to work on her TV commercial or billboard ads with an affordable price.
When they get the return for the losses they incur due to advertisement, she can plan a sale to entice the masses to buy their product. Soon, the brand will become a household brand. Eventually, if everything pans out right, she can start investing on opening branches to different commercial shopping centres to make her shop more accessible to the public.

Old Days Gone

...Old Days Gone “Everybody froze. Everything made no movements at all. It seemed that the world was put in slow motion as another beautiful life was welcomed to the world. Silence continued until everyone heard of the baby’s first cry which as they would say, sounded great. Then, in just a snap, everything became lively again and everyone was grateful for the great news. “It’s a baby girl!” said the doctor. “Thank God” said the family members. The whole family was so thankful for the blessing but who could be more grateful than the baby’s own parents? Who could be happier than Mr. and Mrs. Jose Fernandez Jr.?” In some parts of the world, it is custom to give a child a name that is full of meaning. The name chosen may reflect the parent’s beliefs and values or their hopes and dreams for the child’s future. As for my name, Joanna actually means “God is gracious.” Joanna Lynne was taken from a combination of 3 names, my Dad’s, my Mom’s and my Aunt’s. Dad’s name is Jose. Mom is Erlinda. Aunt is Juanita. My last name, Fernandez was from my great great grandfathers in Pangasinan. When the Spaniards ruled over the country, surnames were also changed. One of the most common used surname at that time was Fernandez and based from my grandmother, those having Fernandez as their surname at that time were entitled to great position in our barangay. Today, I am holding the name Joanna Lynne Fernandez and I am proud of it. With this name is the combined love and effort of my parents to give...

Crack Of Dawn Poem

...The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling, way down in the valley tonight. There's a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye, and a blade shining oh so bright. There's evil in the air and there's thunder in sky, and A killer's on the bloodshot streets. Oh and down in the tunnel where the deadly are rising, Oh I swear I saw a young boy down in the gutter, He was starting to foam in the heat. Oh baby you're the only thing in this whole world, that's pure and good and right. And wherever you are and wherever you go, there's always gonna be some light. But I gotta get out, I gotta break it out now, Before the final crack of dawn. So we gotta make the most of our one night together. When it's over you know, We'll both be so alone. Like...

Travel Memoir

...Life after Death I remember the day just like it was yesterday, the pale color and coldness of her skin. The sky was clear blue, soft, with a touch of red, and the trees seemed stiff in their bright green shade. The wind was blowing with its humid dry air. And All I could do was stand silently in disbelief, caught up in my own thoughts and calm as I ever been. Wondering what I could have done differently to change the course of time, life had taken us upon. Since that very day a chunk of my heart was ripped away, and broken into pieces… “Oh how I miss her so much.” It was the morning of October 24, 2010 when I first received the news. I had just come back from a trip to Orlando’s Halloween horror nights, where I had an amazing time and just in a matter of minutes my whole world had turned upside down. That very moment I could feel my face turned bright red with anger and tears started flowing uncontrollably down my chubby cheeks, as my mother gave away the news that my grandmother was on her death bed. I couldn’t believe how just the day before she sounded so perfectly fine, and today she can possibly be gone. I guess when it’s time to go, it’s time to go you really don’t get a choice when it comes to your own life’s destination. I immediately rushed to the hospital speeding to about 70 miles per hour, hoping I wouldn’t get a ticket. As I got closer I could feel my chest tightening as if somebody was squeezing it with their bare hands. The hospital’s smell seemed familiar prior...

The Fourth State of Matter

...Instructor English 101 10 December 2014 Essay 2 Tragic In the “Fourth State of Matter” by Joann Beard, Beard expresses the horrific event that she encountered at the University of Iowa, by using the symbols of her dog, the squirrels, and the plasma to help the readers interpret and understand the shooting and how it influences her life today. The symbols play a key role in Beard’s writing and the struggles she deals with every day of her life, but also helps her get her point across, as well as keep her audience engaged to connect the symbols in the shooting. We, as an audience, are first introduced to her dog. The dog is the one symbol that is continuous throughout the essay and symbolizes the shooting, and death of her friend Chris. As Beard states “The collie fell down the basement stairs. I don’t know if she was disoriented and was looking for me, or what. But when I was at work she used her long nose like a lever and got the door opened and tried to go down there, except her legs wouldn’t do it and she fell.” (Beard 23) This shows that the dog had no control over his body, just like there was absolutely no control in what Gang Lu was thinking during the shooting and there was not anyone or anything that could stop him. She explains, “Gang Lu stands up and leaves the room abruptly, goes down one floor to see if the department chairman Dwight is sitting in his office. He is.” (Beard 25) This shows that anger Gang Lu has and it leads up to what is about to happen....
