Case: GONZO Digimation (A)
Case Summary

In an attractive Animation Production Industry, as the Digital Animation market was booming, two anime production companies – GONZO and Digimation decide to go for a merger in September 1999, hoping to make a better anime production company. After reaching a final agreement through consultations and negotiations, the two companies establish GONZO Digimation Holding (GDH) as the holding company in February 2000.

GONZO, founded in 1992, had Shoji Murahama as the CEO, who was a skilled producer and coordinator in anime production. GONZO had anime program, game anime and anime movie productions as its core businesses and had already established its brand name due to its high quality work. On the other hand, Digimation, founded in May 1996, had Shinichiro Ishikawa as the President, who was a BCG consultant. Digimation pioneered the introduction of digital technologies into anime production processes, which was very labour intensive. It worked on subcontracted productions and accumulated expertise with the digital technologies in anime production.

With the highly recognized GONZO brand and the advanced digital animation technology of Digimation, backed up by the creative and talented employees of both companies, the merger was expected to go well and produce good results. However the merger did not seem to work well and internal tensions begin to build in the organization.

In December 2000, Ishikawa, then CEO of the holding company GDH, contacted and involved Mr. Takaya Kato and Mr. Soichi Kariyazono of Apax Globis Partners & Co. (“Globis”), one of the VCs, to identify the existing issues and investigate possible solutions so as to maximize the impact of the merger and sustain the growth of GDH. They identified a number of management issues relating to internal communication/relationships, job positioning, daily

My Paper

...him want to preach a sermon from the Book of Revelations on Super Sunday. For thirty minutes, he spent his time saying how criminals should be thrown into the lake of fire. The people didn’t have much of a reaction, except for sleepiness and boredom. While sitting alone, he felt something heavy going up his back. His first thought was a huge leech. He felt it was a sign to deliver the sermon and to write his lead for the Super Bowl story before anything happened to him. In online research, I found that Hunter S. Thompson started his journalism career after he served for the air force. He was a very good known writer and he covered more ground in four paragraphs then most writers could in many books and he penned what many people call “Gonzo Journalism.” Thompson had some health problems and at the age of 67 he committed suicide. Honestly, I only understood some of the article. Thompson must have been a great writer. When I was looking up information on Thompson, I was hoping to find out more about him talking about the sermon, but I couldn’t find anything. If someone was preaching to me for 30 minutes only about criminals being punished, I would have probably gotten bored of listening like those people did when they were listening to Thompson. If he was such a good writer and loved journalism, I don’t understand why he would commit suicide even if he did have health...

Fear And Loathing In America Summary

...Hunter S. Thompson was a journalist who’s energetic writing style became famous after releasing Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. Thompson’s style of journalism always seemed to involve his own perspective when writing journalism pieces as much as possible. Reading his pieces felt like navigating his thoughts as he experienced an event. After reading “Fear and Loathing in America”, it is evident that Thompson is not only upset about the events that occurred from 9/11, but also at the ignorance of the American government and irresponsibility to handle the situation. Thompson accomplishes this by comparing the 9/11 attacks to other massacres of war followed by stating that “The Battle of the World Trade Center lasted about 99 minutes and cost 20,000 lives in two hours” (para. 3). Later Thompson criticizes then president, George W. Bush by describing him as a “goofy child” Unfit to handle the situation and ignorant of a war that his father started (para. 10). Barbara Jones journal, GLIB WITH GUTS AND GORE: I Come to Bury HT, Not to Praise Him: The Legend of Hunter Thompson recognizes that Thompson’s edgy writing made for exciting reads, however lacked a broadened scope. It is evident that Jones is upset that her own book about motorcycle culture was rejected from being published by Random House, the same publisher who published Thompson’s book. However, Jones makes a great point by highlighting that another author, Daniel Wolf, also...

Hunter Thompson Research Paper

...remains not only as a legacy but an inspiration to any aspiring journalist (Biography.com). He becomes the perfect choice for the biography analysis being that he lived in the 20th Century. His humble beginnings and obstacles as well as how he overcame and became a journalist Icon remains a lesson to upcoming journalists who face a plethora of challenges. Therefore, I chose him for my paper because he made enormous contributions to journalism despite coming from a humble background, and his rise against all odds made me have an interest in him. Thompson wore many hats apart from being a journalist such as being an activist and an author as well. Hunter S. Thompson is a Counterculture Icon, who is renowned for his early works of “Creating Gonzo Journalism”. Hunter was born in Louisville born on 18th July 1937. His dad, a...

Southern and Thompson: the Kings of Gonzo

...Southern and Thompson: The Kings of Gonzo Gonzo journalism is the rebel sub-genre of new journalism. First being used to describe the article “The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved” by Hunter S. Thompson, gonzo journalism is described by Wikipedia as “A style of journalism that is written without claims of objectivity, often including the reporter as part of the story via a first-person narrative.” The fact that the reporter is using a first-person narrative breaks one of the four rules of new journalism, but that's the reason gonzo journalism is so fresh and exciting to read. Although Hunter S. Thompson has become synonymous with gonzo journalism, and for good reason, I believe Terry Southern has also made major contributions to this amazing sub-genre of new journalism. Hunter S. Thompson's “The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved” completely revolutionized journalism, and due to it's popularity, enabled Thompson to continue to write gonzo journalism, and make a career out of it, for his entire life, until ending his life in 2005. Thompson's article, and this can be said about all of his articles, is that they have nothing to do about the actual event that he's covering and that Thompson himself ends up becoming the event. It's even evident at the very beginning of the article that the story will have nothing to do with The Kentucky Derby. The derby isn't even mentioned until the fourth paragraph, and it's from a man named Jimbo who doesn't want Thompson...
