...Friend is the definition of a person who likes and enjoys being with someone. It started when I’m in middle school in 8th grade during the lunch period. I met a student name Brandon which we sat in a same table. I don’t talked to Brandon much because I was quiet. Supposedly, I mostly stay quiet for not talking to student too much and have conversation. When I’m with my new friend I wonder if Brandon is a good friend to hang out with. I decided to watch Brandon every time I see him around in lunch period. This way Brandon’s true nature reveals to me. The result of being social with Brandon tells me everything I need to know about himself. Even when I get to know him better, it’s still the same thing when Brandon reveal himself to me and I would do the same. I supposed to tell Brandon about one of the things about myself, but not everything about me. One of the most important attributes that I value a great deal in any friend of mine, and that makes up a great portion of my best friend, hence the importance, is trust. Without...

...The qualities of a good friend There is a saying that goes "A friend in need is a friend indeed". This proverb means that true friends are those who will always be there for us and will stick by us through thick and thin. I believe that every human being in this world MUST have friends in order to lead a happy life. In other words, nobody can survive in this complex world as a loner or a hermit crab. We have all kinds of friends, but good friends are the ones whom we always depend on and we cherish the happy moments we spend together. So, what are the qualities that we should look for in a person to be considered a good friend? In my opinion, a good friend is a loyal and truthful person. He will not speak badly of us behind our backs or back-stab us. He will always support us no matter what happens. He is not a traitor and definitely not malicious. Good friends are also truthful to each other. There will not be any lies between good friends. This quality is extremely important as lies can lead to trouble and strain a close relationship. A good friend cares for us and is concerned for our welfare. A good friend always hopes for the best for us. He is the one with whom we will be able to share our joys and sorrows. A good friend provides a shoulder for us to cry on whenever we are depressed. For instance, we always feel better after pouring out our woes and worries to our good friend. That should be the role a good friend plays - lend a helping hand and help us get on with...

...My friend Every person needs a friend. Friends are very important in our life. I think you cannot live without friends. A friend is a person who always there for you. Your close friend or best friend is a person whom you can trust with everything no matter what happens. Your true friend is always ready to help you. To support you if you do something wrong and to solve problems together with you. They say that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”. I think it is really so. A friend is someone whom you can call ten years after no calling at all and he or she will be gald to hear you. You probably already guessed that I want to tell you about my friend. Her name is Dasha. We became acquainted with each other at the entrance examinations. We chatted for a while, wished each other good luck and went. Two months later, I came back to Kurgan and settled in the dormitory. To my surprise, I saw a familiar face in the coridor. It was Dasha. We were so happy , that we met each other, because we didn’t know anybody there. We immediately went to the commandant and asked to share a room. She allowed us. That’s how our friendship began. Dasha is three years older than me. She is small and slim at the waist. She holds her body upright. She has long, abundant, dark, curly hair. Above her dark brown eyes lies a perfect set of full, well-marked eyebrows. She wears glasses, which suit her very well. Her rounded face sits atop her shoulders with a brilliant smile. Everybody calls her “a sun”. Her...

...A Complicated Relationship Once, there was a shy girl who likes to play the guitar. Her name is Gelou. She is always alone. She doesn’t have many friends and if she has, she doesn’t hang out much with them. Every time she’s at school, she always sits on the bench, play a song and sing it with harmony. One day when she was walking at the porch, she bumped into a girl. “Where are looking?!” “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention,” she replied. “Oh, I’m sorry, too. My day is just bad. By the way, I’m Kelly,” the girl said. “Hi, Kelly. My name is Gelou. Nice meeting you.” “Okay, got to go. See you around. Bye!” “Bye!” That was the start of their friendship. Every lunch and recess, they will meet up and talk about many things. They talk about a lot of things about academics because Kelly is not the type who will scream for her idol or wear make-up just to be noticed by her crush. She’s kind of boyish. Not like Gelou. But even though they are different, they still got along just fine. Suddenly, some popular boys, which are their classmates, just bumped into them. As expected, Gelou wouldn’t say anything. But Kelly is different. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” “Oh, miss. We’re sorry,” one of the boys said. “Next time, you guys should look where you’re going,” looks at Gelou “Let’s go!” The next day, Kelly didn’t go to school leaving Gelou alone. For the second time in her life. Again, she was sitting in her favorite bench, playing a smooth song in her...

...HINDSIGHT ESSAY Life was all about friends. My parents were of lesser importance to me. Friends were such an intergral part of my life that I could not imagine a single day without them. We did practically everything together. Travelled around Pakistan, hiked, camped and explored so much together. All spent every weekend at my place. Ate, slept, played in fact lived together. Life was good. Life was happy. The cloud of gloom could not wait any longer and it showered the rain of envy and spite. The people I loved so much turned out to be foes. All along I had been associating with people who were not genuine to me. Who had envy in their hearts. Who were fake. All my life was fake. Pretence. St.Patricks High School used to be a very happy place. The year 2013 goes down in the history of St.Patrick’s history as the saddest year ever. It witnessed many fights and destructions of relationships. My best friend, Ahmed Abdullah Siddiqui, became an enemy. Politics. Dirty politics. He got indulged in what one should abstain from ; destructive competition. Thirteen years of a beautiful friendship were squashed burnt ans trashed. It was heartbreaking. Just for a petty post he decided to give up such a divine bond. Whenever there is a fight there are always two sides or more. Sadly, not a single person from the people I called friends stood with me. All along I played a neutral, calm and composed role. Despite of the aggressive and offensive behavior of Abdullah I maintained my composure...

...We can easily find friends but have you ever thought of what kinds of people you should make friend with? Friends are really important in our lives and they should be loyal, supportive, loving and kind-and we should give that loyalty, support, love and kindness back in return. How many friends we have is not as have a few friends who have similarity to you. Decide what kinds of friends who suitable for you is difficult, right? Here is a list of top three kinds of friends we should cultivate. The listener is a kind of friend who can sit near and listen to you. Sound strange, right? Of course, if you have a chat with your friends about your happiness, they will always listen to you; however, what if you talk to them about your family trouble, will all of them be able to sit patiently listen to you? If you can friends who can do that, hold them into your life because they are the listener. Another kind of friend is the twin. Have you ever met someone who has nearly every single interest similar to you? The twin is the one who seems to share every single interest that you have. For example, you both like country music and love reading. In short the twin is a friend who is just like you. It is really rare to find this kind of friend but you already have one, you are very lucky! The last one is the motivator. Sometimes, we think that having friends who can accept who we really are is enough but if we can find someone who can make our lives better, it would be the best. It does...

...Friends By Face or Friends By Facebook “As we click with more pals online, the idea of friendship multiplies,” by Joel Garreau (2008). “Whom exactly can you count on(pg 139).” As a society today everyone is depending on the status of the internet. More than half of the people in the world has a Facebook from people you would never think of will have one. The points are you can pick your friends but…, words colliding, stitched together, and the real thing. Are these your frinds indeed? “Life was once so simple(pg 141).” The friends theme was “I’ll be there for you when the rain starts to pour,” and, “I’ll be there for you, ‘cause your’re there for me too(pg 141).” When you get an annoumous friend request the first thing you do is look into their profile before accepting them. Maybe see what friends you all have in common and then ask questions about them. Do you remember the times when you wrote letters to each other in school. Remember when you had to phone someone about a problem and it will just be between the two of you. What happen to those days when everyone did three way calling to find out the 411 on the new boyfriend. Facebook is the new beginning of communication. You know all those separate lives you lead(pg 142)? When you have many friends you act different towards each one of them. When you are out with your best friend and you all run into a friend of yours you know but she doesn’t know and you all do a secret greeting that only you and her know...

...Good And Bad Acting Good acting to me is very clear. From the start of the movie or show I can tell if someone is a good or bad actor. An important element to good acting is being able to 100%, completely transform into the character. So much so that whenever you see the actor again in another project, you can’t get that first character out of your head. A prime example of this are the actors of the TV show, Friends. For ten years, actors like Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and Matthew Perry played the same exact characters. They each played their respective character so unbelievably well. They fell into a mold, and it grew bigger and bigger as the years and seasons continued. They also developed mannerisms for each character, and were consistent with them through out the seasons. Each character had its own little ‘thing’ that made them different and stand out from the rest. Every time I see Matt LeBlanc (who played Joey) in something else, I can’t get “How you doin’?” out of my head. I think sometimes there’s a downside to acting so well and being so good at one character, and that is, once it’s over, no one can see you as something different, and its hard for you to find new projects to work on. For me, I can’t see any of the Friends actors playing another role without thinking of their character in Friends. Another example of good acting, is in The Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo Decaprio, Margot Robbie and Jonah Hill were unbelievable in that movie. They completely transformed...

...In life you learn so many lessons at so many ages. My lifes lesson was and still is friendship Navia and I and I had been best friends since before I can remember. She lived next door to me and our mothers were really good friends. We would say that we were bestfriends for infinity. We were inseperable . Our parents would call us Thelma & Louise because were so bad. Once we came up with this bright idea to steal all of our nightlights in both of our houses to make a home for lightning bugs. It was 1993 on a beautiful summer Sunday. I had just left church and arrived back at home. When we pulled up I saw the movers taking everything out of Navia’s house. I was devastated. I felt as if I would never see my friend again. We hugged and cried until it was time for her to get in the car and leave. For awhile, we talk on the phone everyday. I would tell her all the latest gossip of the neighborhood kids. Yet, after awhile the conversations became shorter and the calls became less frequent. Here it is 1999 , I had a new life and new friends. I was captain of the cheerleading team and president of Fashion DESIGN TEAM. I was in seventh grade and now and I thought I had so many friends I couldn’t keep up. Well, at least in my head I thought I did. You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t a cool kid. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any better, my mom dropped a bomb on me. She said, “Nikki your bestfriend is very sick” I responded, “Who? Shanea? Or is it Melissa. Oh no! I know...

...Life Defining Moments My friend & I were in the car, on our way to Glorietta 4 to catch movie with the rest of the group. She then asked me if some life-defining moments ever occurred. I wasn’t sure what she was talking about & I didn’t have a quick answer for that. I remember her telling me that one of her life defining moments was looking at a framed picture by her bedside, a picture of her and her gorgeous boyfriend, her arms around his neck, in a candid pose. Or something like that. I remember laughing, sine I could have thought of that too. She then explained that a life-defining moment was something you’d like to happen in the future no matter how far-off or crazy it might be. It was like a goal of some sort, but it’s just something conjured up to tickle the imagination. We didn’t dwell on that for long, for the conversation reverted to Harry Potter’s new adventures and the movie that were about to watch that afternoon. I totally forgot it, until a kabarkada now based in Seattle shared her own life-defining moment through e-groups, after that friend of mine (whom I watched the movie with) shared a brand-new one. They were all seeing themselves as successful IT Professionals in power suits rushing from their pad to their office in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. They were either carrying Loius Vitton bags or their slim Compaq notebooks, while talking with a client on their top-of-the-line mobile phones and the, most expensive Armani shades protecting their...

...Real Life Negotiation – Summer Uncertainty Cameron Thum Heading into our third year summer, my friends and I were in a relatively good position. We had all secured internships in our fields of interest for the summer and, better yet, many of us received placement in New York. Within my closest group of friends, however, this blessing became a source of indecision and frustration. Seven of us would be interning in New York, and we would inevitably have to split into two groups of four for housing. The question before us was who’d live with who, and why? Facing this decision, the seven of us sat in a room together one spring afternoon to hash out the lingering uncertainty. We didn’t want anyone to be upset with the final decision and were looking for a pareto optimal outcome. While few of us bore particular preferences for groupings heading into the meeting, it soon became clear that particular individuals had an idea already in mind. The conversation began with casual suggestions for room groups: “Jack and I lived together last year, so maybe it would make sense for us to room together this next summer.” Many of the initial suggestions were similar to this – trying to obtain one’s personal preference without much more than prior relationship as support. Quickly we realized that the conversation was not going anywhere, particularly due to the fact that many of us had lived with others in the group before. But the matching process was complicated by the available dorms. All...

...Ammon, Carl Block and Alex Cooper I would say that Laurie Saunders is the main character, because it’s often in her perspective you see things. She’s also the one who doesn’t really believe that the wave is a good thing and that makes her different from the others. Amy Smith is Laurie's’ friend who is a little bit shy and kind of lives in Laurie’s shadow. She’s like the third wheel to Laurie and her boyfriend David, she seems to be interested in David’s friend but is to shy to do anything. Ben Ross is the teacher who introduced the Wave to the students. He seems to be a really good teacher that everyone likes and has a wife that loves him. When he wants to do something he dedicates his life to it. David Collins is a guy who plays football and is Laurie’s boyfriend. He seems to be a funny guy who wants to help his football team that sucks. So he introduces the Wave to the team and it seems to work pretty good. Robert Billings is a bullied guy that nobody likes. He is the one who gets most dedicated to the Wave because it makes him one of the gang because everyone is equal in the Wave. You haven’t heard so much about Brian Ammon, but he is David’s friend and plays in the football team together with David. Carl Block and Alex Cooper are best friends and works at the Grapevine with Laurie, the are funny guys who are more independent than others because the do not join the wave.
