...IS IT A GOOD TIME TO TALK? - Yashaswi ( meyashaswi@gmail.com ) “Hello Sir, this is Sandy. Is it a good time to talk?” “Well sure it is, but I won’t waste this time talking to a hopeless call centre agent. Please leave me alone and don’t bother calling again.” Sandeep hated his job. He hated his new name Sandy. He had even started loathing himself. Everything about his life was so predictable that he sometimes wondered if it was worth waking up to that mundane routine everyday. He was an employee of a reputed call-center in Bangalore – the IT capital of India. A member of the ‘outbound’ team, he was required to make calls for ‘inquiring’ on behalf of an insurance company. An inquiry would mean politely asking the irate obnoxious customer if he was interested in insuring all the trivial things he had collected in his life, or even the most futile of them all – his life. He was so used to being badmouthed by the clients that if someone did not do so he suspected him of homosexuality. He had been trained to receive such bad-mouthing sportingly. The counselors had told him, “Be kind, for you never know, they might be fighting a tougher battle. Actually they are not angry on Sandeep the person. They are irritated by Sandy the tele-caller.” They told him that in his job, more than in any other, it was indispensable to follow the tenets of Gita, the holy book. He was supposed to detach himself from the results of his action to rise above all self-condemnation...

...Basic of Engine Operating Characteristics 2103471 Internal Combustion Engine Background on IC Engines • “An internal combustion is defined as a heat engine in which the chemical energy of the fuel is released inside the engine and converted directly into mechanical work on a rotating output shaft, as opposed to an external combustion engine in which a separate combustor is used to burn the fuel.” Background on IC Engines Internal combustion engines are so called because the heat required to drive them is released by oxidizing a fuel inside the engine itself. This approach has advantages and disadvantages, but is still the most popular for transport and small power generation plant. We will be looking at some common types of engine, examining some ways of analysing their performance parameters, and some of the problems encountered in improving efficiency and output. Background on IC Engines Internal combustion engines include systems which function like "closed" systems (e.g. petrol engines) or as "open" systems (e.g. gas turbines). All the engines we will examine contain the same basic activities: invest some work to compress a working fluid, inject heat into the fluid, recover a greater amount of work, return to initial conditions by removal of some heat. • • • • Typical Processes for an Internal Combustion Engine Background on the Otto Cycle • The Otto Cycle has four basic steps or strokes: – F-A : An intake stroke that draws a combustible mixture...

...course. Shaping the Image of Black America Good Times originally aired on CBS in 1974. It was a black situation comedy focused on the daily lives, struggles, and hardships of a disadvantaged black family living in a Chicago housing project during the peak of the civil rights movement. Esther Rolle was cast as the matriarch, Florida Evans. The character had originated as a maid on the sitcom “Maude”. From analysis of the main characters in Good Times, there emerges a clearly exhibited grouping of a minstrel show ensemble. Every minstrel caricature is represented; the mammy, the brute, the promiscuous, exotic woman, the lazy son, the ‘mulatto’, and the pickaninny. There are no legitimate marked talents portrayed among the characters, except for J.J., whose inability to be taken seriously enough undermines any effort to benefit from his artistic talents. As Bodroghkozy (2012) observes, “Good Times waded into these troubled waters. As a comedy reaching a diverse audience, the show had to negotiate its representations with care in order, on the one hand, to circulate empowering messages about African Americans while, on the other hand, not to unduly discomfort more conservative white viewers, including those who might have seen the ethnic whites of Chicago and Boston as victims in the era’s racial turmoil. Good Times quickly developed into an important site of contestation and...

...The Great Divide "What are we doing today?" David called and asked the minute he got off work. As he raced his old green car down the interstate to come to my house, Richard and I waited. This became a daily occurrence mainly because we had more fun with each other than anyone else. We were inseparable the whole summer. "David, we are going swimming," I usually responded because I had just moved into a house with a pool, and it always felt as hot as hell outside. His body was not nearly as muscular as Richard's, but he didn't care because his looks weren't his first concern. If his jokes or his stupid dance moves made you laugh, then he would do them all day long. So, with his orange swimming trunks on, he did a belly flop almost everyday, and almost everyday it made me cry with laughter, and that's all he really wanted. Considering it was two boys and I, the whole eating healthy was no concern for them. Swimming would make them feel like they were starving, so David always suggested Gatti's. He engulfed about ten pieces faster than I could chew one, and he usually regretted that decision shortly after. With our stomachs too full to suck in, we all had one thing on our mind; sleep. The three of us pilled into his old green car and drove to Richard's. He had most of the upstairs to himself, so there was plenty room for us to be the bums we were. "Ya'll, I'm sick of being worthless, let's do something," he would always say after we had acted like bums for a couple of days straight...

...William Ryals December 3, 2013 Black Identity and Culture Prof. W. P. Holbrook S116 Exploring the Views of Marriage and Family in African American Films, Stereotypes and TV Shows Good Times. The Jeffersons. The Cosby Show. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The list goes on; all of these shows are viewed as classics and are some of the most highest-rated television programs of all-time. Another commonality amongst these shows is that they all center around African American main characters and or families. Many of these shows dealt with the many problems the African American community faces. While African Americans are viewed in a mostly positive light, throughout television history many stereotypes were reoccurring on popular TV shows, movies and in the media. Although improved, the idea of stereotypical characters is still prevalent in modern society. One character that comes to mind immediately is Sheneneh from the hit TV show Martin. She was a loud-mouthed hair stylist, who was the stereotypical face of a ghetto woman in Detroit. In an episode that aired in 1997 titled, “Martin: Power to the People’s Court”, Sheneneh gets into a car accident and she makes the comment “I don’t [have any car insurance], Tommy, and now I ain’t goin’ to be able to get none is what I’m tryna tell you!” This reinforced the stereotype that African American women drive around without car insurance. Sheneneh isn’t alone when it comes to these types of characters; in the Barbershop film series there...

...Conclusion Ms. Dimwit will likely try to prove that Good Times is liable through negligence, and Good Times’ best defense is a superseding cause. Rule of Law Negligence: For the plaintiff to prove that defendant was negligent in their actions, she would need to prove that (1) the defendant maintained a duty of ordinary care to her (to conduct themselves as any reasonably prudent person would under similar circumstances), (2) that they breached that duty of care, and (3) that this breach of the duty of care caused her damages, and that she was actually harmed as a result of this breach. The plaintiff must prove that the defendant acted unreasonably and without the care that an ordinary person would. She also must prove that the defendant’s...

An individual hotel normally can't extend its room supply throughout great times nor diminish it throughout the terrible one. ...1. Introduction Services’ marketing is a sub field of marketing which covers the marketing of both goods and services. Goods marketing include the marketing of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and durables. Services marketing typically refer to the marketing of both business to consumer and business to business services. Common examples of service marketing are found in telecommunications, air travel, health care, financial services, all types of hospitality services, car rental services, and professional services. Services are economic activities, rather than tangible products, offered by one party to another. Rendering a service to recipients, objects, or other assets depends on a time-sensitive performance to bring about the desired result. In exchange for money, time, and effort, service customers expect value from access to goods, labor, professional skills, facilities, networks, and systems; but they do not normally take ownership of any of the physical elements involved. Services’ marketing is a form of marketing that focuses on selling services. They can be tricky to sell, and the marketing approach for them is much different than the approach for products. Some companies offer both products and services and must use a mixture of styles; for example, a store that sells computers also tends to also help people select computers and provide computer repair. Such a store must market both its products and the supporting services it offers to appeal to customers. 1.1 Origin...

The number of seats in the waiting area is limited and that because space inside it is limited and there is no dedicated waiting area to accommodate the visitors. Furthermore, the restaurant doesn’t have an advance booking system. Further to the above, the time required to serve the meal from the time the order is placed is twelve minutes, and most of it consumed for final cooking. According to the customer survey feedback as provided in the case study, during the rush hours on Friday and Saturday’s nights, indicates that customers were overall pleased with the general dining experience. However, sixteen customers said that the food and service that the restaurant offers does not worth the money paid for while other sixty-seven customers said that food worth the cost. Even when considering the rates of the aspects of the survey it appeared that the majority of the customers are well satisfied with overall dining experience apart from the delivery time of the food; especially during the rush time. Even on a personal level if you win the lottery – you will be happier until you have bought your material goods, and you will go back to your old self. The activity that will make you the happiest is sex. Just as being married “produces a psychic gain equivalent to more than $100,000 a year”. “Most people overestimate the extent to which more money would improve our lives” Text 2: Text 2 is written by Stephanie Rosenbloom and is an article. She starts off by telling about the economy, which is not very good. Consumers saved more than 4% more on their after-tax income then normal, which is alarming because the economy is depending on shoppers’ spending money on material goods. But on the bright side the consumers are changing their course of action. Instead of buying material goods they spend their money on experiences. For instants instead of buying new clothes the consumer saves the money and spending them on vacation or concert tickets. The reason why is because buying luxury goods...

...Marketing Relates to Production Production is a very important economic activity. Whether for lack of skill and resources or just lack of time, most people don’t make most of the products they use. Although production is a necessary economic activity, some people overrate itsimportance in relation to marketing. Their attitude is reflected in the old saying:“Make a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.” In otherwords, they think that if you just have a good product, your business will be a success. The point is that production and marketing are both important parts of a total business system aimed at providing consumers with need- satisfying goods and services. Together, production and marketing supply five kinds of economic utility—form, task, time, place, and possession utility that are needed to provide consumer satisfaction. Here, utility means the power to satisfy human needs. Form utility is provided when someone produces something tangible—for instance, a bicycle. Task utility is provided when someone performs a task for someone elsefor instance, a bicycle. The product must be something that consumers want or there is no need to be satisfied. Time utility means having the product available when the customer wants it. And place utility means having the product available where the customer wants it. Time and place utility are very important for services too. For example, neighborhood emergency carehealth clinics have become very popular. People...
