Lesson 1.03 Assessment
Dear, Rachel Carson You struck me as a perfect citizen from the very moment I read about you. You've made invaluable efforts to help our environment and you were fearless in your approach to change how our country treated the environment. Being a citizen that partakes in political and civic activities is not always easy but it's extremely important to our country's well being and moral. If not a lot of citizens take part in essential political activates such as voting then our country would have a very hard time selecting a president. If all citizens averted themselves from civic activities then we wouldn't really have important things like our non profit organizations, which work so hard to change things for the better. It is my understanding that the copious amount of chemical pesticides that were used during WW2 really bugged you. It didn't just bug you, it disgusted you. But instead of thinking nothing of it and finishing your coffee, you took action by writing a book about it to raise awareness on the matter and despite facing verbal onslaught from chemical companies and even from some individuals in the government, you still persevered and dismantled the environmental threat by testifying to the government in 1963. Your work quite literally changed everything about how we treat the environment in the agricultural workforce to use much less threating pesticides and inspire others to protect the living world and all of its wildlife. To this day, your work still benefits our view on the environment and the small things we do everyday such as recycling that make a huge difference to the environment. In my honest opinion, your actions warrant a holiday in remembrance to your impact in the U.S and to raise even further awareness for mother nature.
