...the predators and escape safety due to the destruction of the marshlands. This indicates a chain events of that since the rails’ habitats are destroyed by urban developments and human activities, non-native predators have a higher chance to capture the rails because now the rails do not have protection anymore. Additionally, a recent clapper rail habitat restoration attempt by the Western Ecological Research Center (WERC) show that the rails face the danger of “rising sea levels and extreme high tides…” (Grable 1) which “...could flood out...[their] high marsh refuges and leave... [them] more vulnerable to predators” (Grable 1). The Research Center built floating “islands” to allow the California Clapper Rails to use these “islands” to be temporary “high-tide refugia for the rails” (Grable 1) for breeding. These artificial “islands” are proven to be effective when “one pair of rails took advantage of the high and dry island to build a nest and fledge at least three chicks” (Grable 1). Though these all impact rails greatly, arguably, the most complicated problem plaguing rails is the invasion of Spartina, a plant. Controlling the Spartina is an incredibly difficult task, as balance is needed between the invasive and native types of Spartina. If the Spartina is removed too much, the rails will lose their cover, but if it is removed a little, the spread of the Spartina wouldn’t be controlled. Lastly, the rails are still endangered because many people still hunt California clapper rails...

...I. Credit card companies should not be on campus marketing to college students College kids and credit cards have been news lately, following a June 1999 report by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) that blasted card issuers for luring unsuspecting students into debts. Sociologist Robert Manning, the author of the CFA study, was quoted in a Reuter’s story as saying: “The unrestricted marketing of credit cards on college campuses is so aggressive that it now poses a greater threat than alcohol or sexually transmitted diseases.” Most news stories took cues from Manning and touted the risks of credit cards on cash for students. By National On-Campus Reports, 6/15/2005, Vol. 33 Issue 12, p 34-35. II. Credit card companies target college students into applying. The now commons practice of card companies’ offering students credit cards is being portrayed as a way to lure students into an addiction to pilling on debt they can’t handle. Banks have become more aggressive and creative on luring college students to apply for credit credit cards. College students have been targets to banks for years because he or she does not have any financial obligations. Most of the nation's major credit card issuers are aggressively marketing unsecured credit to students (in their own name) through advertising, direct mail promotions and on-cam-pus recruitment, with giveaways like compact disks, mugs, candy bars, calculators, sunglasses, credit card-sponsored concerts, discounts on airfares...

...3/1/2015 Informational Booklet | David Grable | The Silent Killer | High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) | The Silent Killer | High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) | What Is High Blood Pressure? Blood pressure is the measurement of force that blood applies against the walls of your arteries. Blood pressure tends to rise and fall regularly throughout the day, but if it remains high, you have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is also referred to as Hypertension. Damage can occur to blood vessels, the heart, and the kidneys when blood pressure is high. This can lead to more serious conditions such as: heart attacks, strokes, and other problems. Hypertension is often considered “the silent killer” because there are typically no symptoms present while damage is occurring. Your blood pressure consists of two numbers, systolic and diastolic, and is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). Someone with a systolic pressure of 120 and a diastolic pressure of 80 has a blood pressure of 120/80, or “120 over 80” (U.S. PSTF, 2007). Note: * The systolic number shows how hard the blood pushes when the heart is pumping. * The diastolic number shows how hard the blood pushes when the heart is relaxed and filling with blood (between heartbeats). An ideal blood pressure for an adult is less than 120/80. Hypertension is 140/90 or higher. Many people fall somewhere in the middle, this is known as prehypertension. Individuals with prehypertension need to make lifestyle...

...data was presented to you showing that Consumers Concerned About Cereal Cheaters (CCACC) misrepresented the Oxford Cereals packaged weights for two (2) of their cereals, Oxford O’s and Alpine Granola Frosted Flakes. I have received further statistical data from Oxford Cereals in support of its claims that CCACC has indeed misrepresented their company related to the packaged weights. This additional statistical data was analyzed and these findings will be outlined for your further review. The following statistical data was conclusive in determining that the claim of Oxford Cereals cheating their customers was not true. There is no definitive proof that the claims of boxed weights being short of 368 grams are true. New information Ted Grable, CEO of Oxford Cereals visited Oxford Cereal Plant Number 1 with several members of the public, several off-duty firefighters and police officers, and a television reporter, Sharon Danyl. ...The Impact of Financial Education in High School and College On Financial Literacy and Subsequent Financial Decision Making by Lewis Mandell Kermit O. Hanson Visiting Professor of Finance and Business Economics Foster School of Business, University of Washington Senior Fellow, Initiative on Financial Security, Aspen Institute Presented at the American Economic Association Meetings San Francisco, CA January 4, 2009 The Impact of Financial Education in High School and College On Financial Literacy and Subsequent Financial Decision Making Abstract: Many consumers appear to lack the financial literacy needed to make financial decisions in their self-interest. A growing number of analysts and politicians are blaming the intersection of low levels of financial literacy with complex, financially-engineered products for the current economic meltdown and have proposed a number of solutions to this problem. These solutions range from mandatory education in personal finance to required simplification of financial products and greatly increased regulation. This paper examines evidence on the effectiveness of personal finance education on both financial literacy and financial behavior. If the problem can be solved through education, it is likely to reduce the perceived need to limit choice in the marketplace for retail financial products. If education is shown to be ineffective, the future of financial product innovation and financial engineering may be greatly limited. Supporting...

...Orson Welles: The Man, the Myth… the Communist? “One of the most promising artists of our day,” “ One of the most accomplished dramatic artists of the twentieth century, “ and “A major creative force and ultimate auteur,” were all praises and titles from major media moguls, publications, and critics given to Orson Welles. Not too shabby for someone who hasn’t even turned thirty yet, eh? Right out of the gate Welles proved to be an innovative and artistic force that could hold its own, and even surpass, the heavy hitters of his day. His career seemed to be on a steady incline for almost a decade; however, did his talent and work hit a plateau? Welles was always seen as an active political figure that was not afraid to voice or project his own viewpoints in the public, but did this have a negative or lasting affect on his later career? Critics argue the best work Welles produced was before he hit thirty years old, so was this a direct result from the negative attention he attracted from media magnates, specifically William Randolph Hearst, Hollywood elite, and most importantly the United States government? Also, Welles left the country at a time when the dreaded “blacklist” was starting to funnel through Hollywood (“Orson” 17). Whether this was coincidence or intentional is debatable, but either way the ramifications may have helped account for the different direction he took with his post-Hollywood career. Did Orson’s fame draw too much attention and lead to his downfall? ...

...No Name Woman – by Maxine Hong Kingston "You must not tell anyone," my mother said, "what I am about to tell you. In China your father had a sister who killed herself. She jumped into the family well. We say that your father has all brothers because it is as if she had never been born. "In 1924 just a few days after our village celebrated seventeen hurry-up weddings-to make sure that every young man who went 'out on the road' would responsibly come home-your father and his brothers and your grandfather and his brothers and your aunt's new husband sailed for America, the Gold Mountain. It was your grandfather's last trip. Those lucky enough to get contracts waved goodbye from the decks. They fed and guarded the stowaways and helped them ofT in Cuba, New York, Bali, Hawaii. 'We'll meet in California next year,' they said. All of them sent money home. "I remember looking at your aunt one day when she and I were dressing; 1 had not noticed before that she had such a protruding melon of a stomach. But I did not think, 'She's pregnant,' until she began to look like other pregnant women, her shirt pulling and the white tops of her black pants showing. She could not have been pregnant, you see, because her husband had been gone for years. No one said anything. We did not discuss it. In early summer she was ready to have the child, long after the time when it could have been possible. "The village had also been counting. On the night the baby was to be born the villagers raided...
