Today I honor Captain William Farnsworth Cook, chief of the fourteenth regiment of George Washington’s army. The fearless captain in battle, my kind and loving grandfather, the reassuring man of the house. Who took pride, who told captivating stories about his heroic moments during battle, so many times that I knew them by heart. He stretched the truth a bit sometimes. He kept his sword and rifle clean and polished. Always looking on the bright side of things, a welcome contrast to mother’s pessimism. He deserved a proper funeral, to honor his life, to honor his name. So I honor him now. I’ll miss his tales of battle, his laughter and positivity. I’ll even miss his annoying parrot, King George. He will always be remembered, as a hero, as family
