...My fellow students, we only arrived here four short years ago, and now it's already time to leave. How did it all go so fast? It seems like only yesterday that we were awkward little freshmen fighting with the locks on our lockers, trying to figure out where our next class was, and looking generally clueless to all the upper classmen. Now we are the upperclassmen, the seniors who stand here ready to graduate and move forward in the world. Yet at this moment, we can't help looking back. How do we measure the time we've spent in high school? In the beginning, we measured it in class periods, counting down the day to eventual freedom. As the days and weeks passed, we measured it in semesters, and later in years as we moved from being those clueless freshmen, to becoming sophisticated sophomores who thought they had it all figured out. By the time we reached our junior year, we were confident that we were prepared to take over for the graduating seniors, and we couldn't wait to "rule the school." And now here we stand. Sadly our reign is over, and it's up to the next class to step into our shoes and take over. I know that as I look out at all of you, I will measure my time here in a much different way. I will measure it in all the friendships I've enjoyed these last four years. Some were casual and others were BFF’s, but I'll remember each one fondly, as I'm sure you all will, too. And when many of our high school memories begin to fade, that's how we'll ultimately measure the...

...Standing before you on this day reminds me of my 8th grade graduation. I sat on the stage listening to three of my peers give beautiful speeches that had nothing to do with any of the feelings I felt. The speakers harped on the nostalgia of leaving a school they had been at for nine years; I had only been there for three. They spoke on how they would miss seeing the same faces everyday and that they feared the days ahead – however, I was excited. When I thought about the future I saw all the things waiting for me to come and try. I saw the new friends I would make, the papers I would write, the softball games I would win, the clubs and activities I would join, the boy who would be my first kiss, and the wonderful people I would meet who would inspire me more than I realized at the time. Graduation is a time to look at what the future has in store for each of us. It is a time to take a look at what path our lives are going to take once the caps and gowns are taken off and we are thrust into an unknown future. Changes next year will vary greatly for each of us, they will come in the form of new environments, lifestyles, and schedules. And these changes will bring an abundance of questions. Will I be happy? Will I fall in love? Will I have a family? Will I be happy five or ten years down the road? Will I make a difference? Will I make a difference in my community? In my country? In the world? El Cerrito High School graduates of 2010, we...

...JON BON JOVI MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY Commencement Address May 16, 2001 Good afternoon… and congratulations to the graduating class of 2001. President Stafford, faculty, alumni, parents, family and friends. I’m humbled and honored to have been asked to give this commencement speech on this, one of the most special days of your life (so far.) I’ve had to think hard over the last several weeks about what information I could offer you that you might find useful in the years to come. Though the book of my life isn’t yet finished at 39 years old, I am a few chapters ahead so maybe there are a few lessons I can share. Right now I’ll bet there are a multitude of emotions running through you - from sheer joy to trepidation, from anxiety to anticipation. Don’t worry -- that’s normal. And it’s something you’ve faced before. When you went from kindergarten to elementary school and then from junior high to high school to college… it’s all been a series of NEW BEGINNINGS. Now, some of you have chosen to continue on with higher education, and others are jumping out into the “real world.” But YOUR schooling isn’t over. Treat the workplace as another school and learn all the lessons you can from it. Don’t be afraid to start from the bottom. Be humble and stay humble. No job is beneath you if you use it as a lesson. I may have been very successful in my music career – but when I started a film career, I was just another actor looking for work. My fame wasn’t a help –in...

...Speech Analysis Paper Oprah Winfrey Stanford University Graduation 2008 This speech was about three lessons that Oprah Winfrey has come across in her professional and personal life. She talked about striving to be yourself and not anyone else and how you can grasp failure and turn it around by embracing it and finding the solution, and lastly how happiness comes when you give back to others. Her first lesson was about striving to be your own self; she talked about in the beginning of her professional career when she had a job in Baltimore as a news anchor. She was constantly holding Barbara Walters as the image she wanted to be in her career and wanted to be like. So she was always trying to talk like Barbara, look like Barbara and act like Barbara… And she kept getting it wrong. She felt the need to be spontaneous and more of herself when she would read some of the headings…. Especially upsetting headings with disasters involved. So she would sometimes not pre-read any of headings until she was live so it would come across more realistic. She once covered a story of a horrible fire and afterwards ran to the scene and helped the fire victims by providing blankets. She never lost her empathy. She ran into some barriers during this job that ultimately helped her find her true purpose in life. The first barrier was that her boss let her know that they did not like the way she looked, and that they wanted to give her a new name that they thought would be more “friendly” and...

...Speech Ladies and Gentlemen. good morning. My name is Peter Samir and I represent the Egyptians of the city of Vinnitsa . first I would like to greet Mr. , Mr. . It is a real honor to in front of all you . I would like start my speech with the immortal words of the author Frederick Douglass noted that "if there is no struggle, there is no progress," Today, as we prepare to move toward the future, it is pertinent that we hold fast to our support networks—those who have encouraged and grounded us throughout the years. Parents, families, friends, and mentors, I take this moment to thank you! We ask that you continue to support us as we embark on our future endeavors. Like many of my classmates, I came to the Pirogov Memorial Medical University because I desired a college experience that would challenge me.I believe the theoretical education provided by the College is, in essence, a skills-based education. And let me tell you why: First, as capable thinkers, we are great problem-solvers. When faced with a challenge, we will use both our skepticism and our knowledge to dig into the roots of the issue and tackle the problem from the center outward. Second, the teachers are very capable and sincere in their work , they love to help their students to acknowledge all the information necessary to excel in the future . the Syllabus given there is highly organized and it is taught in a marvelous and flawless timeline . We have a...

...Good afternoon fellow classmates, parents, friends, family, and community members. Now I’m sure you all know why we are here today. Yep that right, it’s that time…class of 2015, it’s our time, it’s our time to finally sit in these chairs, to wear these caps and gowns, to be handed a diploma, and to say our goodbyes. Now as I was sitting down trying to figure out how I was going to write this speech, the only thing that came to my mind was playing basketball. Now why would I be thinking about basketball at this time? I mean come on were about to graduate and here I am thinking about a game! But then it hit me, high school in some ways is a lot like a basketball game. Both are hard, challenging, difficult, and by the end, you’re relieved that its over. Now just imagine, you are warming up for the game, you have all those nervous butterflies dancing around in your stomach, you are scared that you might mess up and get pulled out of the game. Now imagine being in the middle of the court, waiting for the ref to throw the opening tip, your Adrenaline is at its highest, you see the ref throw up the ball, the players tip it, and all of the sudden your off running to one side of the court, the easiest yet the most terrifying part of the game. If you think about it, this is a lot like our freshmen year. You have no idea what is in store for you but you know that you just have to play and get that first year done with. Now back to the game, you have just finished that first quarter and...

...MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--The West Virginia University baseball team defeated Virginia Tech 10-5 on Wednesday at Monongalia County Ballpark. The Mountaineers (25-21) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead to beat the Hokies (20-27) for the third consecutive time and ninth in the last 13 games. "We're having some consistency on offense," WVU head coach Randy Mazey said. "It appears we got our short game back, which disappeared for a while. I think we had three or four bunt hits tonight. We moved some runners, had some stolen bases and we got a lot of hits, but we didn't smash balls like we normally do. We didn't have a lot of extra base hits in the gaps, that type of thing. It's nice to know that you can win games without being able to do that, by bunting and moving runners and stealing bases, that type of thing." Kyle Gray extended his hitting streak to 23 games. He had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Braden Zarbnisky and Jimmy Galusky both had three hits. Darius Hill, Ivan Gonzalez and Brandon White all drove in two runs apiece. Freshman right-hander Tristen Hudson earned the win, the first of his career. He surrendered a run on two hits with a walk through 1.2 innings. The Mountaineers scored 10 runs on 17 hits. WVU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Zarbnisky led off the frame with a single and White walked. Then Hill doubled down the right field line, playing Zarbnisky and White. Then Gray extended the Mountaineers lead with a base hit to right center. With one...

...Where would it be advisable for me to begin? I simply need to thank every one of you who sent me your congratulations, hit the like button, and commented. I am humbled and energised by the amount of your support, particularly from my First Lady Jennique, Alanie (my little girl), my Marines whom I have led, some of my mentors from Montefiore Medical Center, close relatives, and friends. My voyage began at Alex Basic school, and continued through Crescent Primary, Eltham High, Evander Childs, Bronx Community College, United States Marine Corps, and the University of Maryland University College. This first milestone has taught me that time is a fundamental tool, and we regularly neglect to drive ourselves further to be essential resources in the...

...Father Greg Boyle the founder and CEO of Homeboy Industries gave a commencement speech at the 2011 graduation of the University of California Los Angeles Nursing schools where he was the keynote speaker. He discusses many things from pastors teaching him how to use his phone and text and helping people that can not handle the burden of their responsibilities. I feel the topic of his speech was fitting due to the audience who were graduating nursing students that will eventually help people who are in medical need in hospitals, nursing homes and other locations that nurses work. I’m going to evaluate how he talks, the audience’s reaction and his presence on the stage and in the room and the topic of his speech more in depth. The father was...

...Graduation by Maya Angelou Summary In Maya Angelou’s essay Graduation, the author describes all of the emotions & experiences she has approaching, & during her middle school graduation in the 1930s at the segregated school Lafayette County Training School in Stamps, Arkansas. Pre-Graduation Students prepare to graduate from both the grammar & high schools in Stamps, Arkansas. While some families order new outfits for themselves & their children, Angelou wears a yellow pique dress like the majority of other eighth grade girls. Angelou feels a sense of excitement & anticipation, which lifts her spirits, as she says, “I had taken to smiling more often, & my jaws hurt from the unaccustomed activity.” Graduation Day The students file into their seats, singing the National Anthem & reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. However, straying from the usual assembly routine, they do not follow with the “Negro National Anthem,” the song “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson & J. Rosamond Johnson. This exemption gives Angelou an idea of how the rest of the ceremony will go. The principal welcomes & leads the group in a prayer with the Baptist priest, & introduces the guest speaker, white state representative Edward Donleavy. He gives a very uninspiring speech as he tells of the improvements set for the white high school’s sciences, arts & Training School’s sports facilities. Other than sports, Donleavy spoke very little of...

...Graduation is the action of receiving or conferring an academic degree or the ceremony that is sometimes associated, where students become graduates. The graduation ceremony is a cultural tradition that is considered a rite of passage. The ceremony marks a transition from one stage in a student's life to another. Before the graduation, candidates are referred to as grandaunts. The date of graduation is often called graduation day. The graduation itself is also called commencement, convocation or invocation. In case of study and education graduation is the meaning of getting a higher degree of three years after 10+2 from a university or college, but that degree must come under the degree of graduation. Quite apart from that though, the graduation ceremony fulfills an essential human function as a ritual of transition, in this case marking the move from student to worker. The whole idea of graduation is believed to have started in the 12th Century, introduced by scholastic monks who wore robes during the entire graduation ceremony. It has kept on evolving ever since. Gill, L. (2012, January 15). Convocation and its importance. Graduation. Retrieved August 7, 2012. Scholars, especially anthropologists, consider graduation to be a rite of passage. A rite of passage is a ritual that marks a change from one stage of life to the next in a person’s life. The pomp and ceremony of the graduation ceremony can lend itself to accusations of irrelevance and elitism. Such criticisms I think...

...“Good Morning Maggie Walker, today is September 9, 2014. Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.” Attentively listening to the bright orotund female voice permeate through the school referencing bountiful opportunities that would give any freshmen goosebumps. Abruptly before the female finished her last sentence, a short corpulent Caucasian man entered the room. Staring at my notebook, I noticed he spoke with a rather raucous voice, “Welcome! Here is a map of China with fifty terms. You will have your first geography test on Friday, points will be deducted for spelling.” Mesmerized by the courseload, all I could think of was the clock’s tick echoing behind me reminding me of every second in the eighty-minute class. My only thought, “What have I gotten myself into?” My home district originally provided the verdict that they could not financially afford to send a student to Maggie Walker, however I was told the day before school started that I would be in attendance. I entered Maggie Walker Governor’s School oblivious to the requirements needed to endure the year to come, only prepared for a minor challenge. I was ill-equipped for the stereotypical racial interpretations aimed at the minorities of the school nor was I prepared with such innate intellectual capabilities exhibited by my fellow colleagues. From that moment on, every other thought that pervaded my mind preceded to the conclusion of leaving the school and return to my home district. Instead, I remained determined...
