As a volunteer for the Zero Illiteracy Zone, I spend my weekends teaching English to a group of interested but underprivileged kids from nearby villages. My language repertoire already has three entries while I attempt to learn Spanish. I am also not a terrible writer and have, in fact, had my articles published in the Times of India (Student Edition). But my writing skills often decay under the glare of short time limits, which explains my under par scores in TOEFL Writing and GRE AWA. Why MS in Penn? It was the TED talk “Robots that fly… and cooperate” (by Dean Vijay Kumar) that first put University of Pennsylvania on my map of potential destinations. The GRASP Laboratory immediately earned my admiration, with its impressive array of robots, dedicated facilities like MRSL and, most importantly, the gamut of research topics tackled here. Robotics, by its very nature, is a collaboration across domains and the GRASP Lab appears to be hitting all the right notes with its perfect faculty mix.
