...Lower Standards, Weaker Army Due to the U.S. Army low enlistment rate it was decided to lower the requirements for entry to the service. The standards have been lowered in areas like health, physical condition, age and even criminal records (Joining with criminal record, not dated). The Army is giving recruits bigger incentive bonuses to join the service. This makes people join the service for monetary reasons rather than the will to serve the country. Due to these adjustments, the Army is having a bigger drop-out rate and higher crime rate than ever before. Soldiers are just not as qualified as they should be. In the long run this will weaken the military to a devastating outcome. I remember when I first joined the military, it took me about three full months to complete the screening and entry process before I was finally able to shipped for basic training. This process included everything from drug screening, physical fitness tests, psychological screening and educational knowledge (Joining the Army, not dated). I even had to take a test in order to find out which jobs did I qualified for. Even though I was ready to join right away I still had to wait the necessary time for all the process to be completed. Once I arrive at boot camp things weren’t as easy as I expected. There were many long days and lots of screaming from the drill sergeants. They always used to push us to our limits on everything from physical tiredness to mental stress. I used to get punished all the...

...she has not undergone the process of research through background info about different aspects of the literary work. Analysis of the piece can always help, but it is not as effective without background information to back it up. Analysis and background information work hand and hand to cut literary pieces apart from their submerged privacy and uncover very important details hidden between the lines. Mark Doty’s “A Collection of Minerals” is an autobiographical poem, and it paints a very clear picture of when, where, and how he feels about that time in his life. Analysis and background information about the Cuban Missile Crisis and Mark Doty himself can help give the reader more insight into Doty’s emotional journey in “A Collection of Minerals.” In “A Collection of Minerals” Doty yields just enough detail and well thought out descriptions in order to inform the reader of when and where the story takes place. He allows the reader to know exactly how he feels. Doty uses allusion and symbolism tell the story of how his innocence faded away during a troubling time in his personal life and a troubling time in the country. “This was Titusville, Florida, / the year our class practiced/ climbing under our desks,...

...Five Functions of Management within the Army Denise Witherspoon MGT 330 Jonathan Good May 7, 2012 Five Functions of Management within the Army The five functions of management within the Army are inseparable. Through lost wars and battles, Army leadership had to learn the hard way why those functions were inseparable. In this paper, I will provide a brief narrative of the Army’s organizational structure and how it applies to the five functions of management. I will also incorporate leader and motivation theories as it relates to the Army. The Army’s organizational structure can be complex to those who aren’t familiar with the military. The Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world.” (Department of Defense 2012). Those units report to the Department of Defense through a chain of command. The units within the Army have front line managers (Troop Commanders), middle managers (Division Commanders), and top managers (Commanding Generals). These managerial levels are comprised of Army officers. The enlisted leadership is comprised of line managers and staff managers. The President is the Commander-and-Chief of the armed forces, otherwise known as the President. His top-level management team consists of the Vice-President, the Chief of Staff, and the Secretary of Defense. The Army is a mechanistic organization combined with a Professional...

...section, by demonstrating how you might begin each section. In these examples section I and II present questions that the Preliminary Report would answer. For example, the first paper would explain who was affected by Katrina, what Katrina was, and so on. Section III presents questions that the Preliminary Report would not answer but would describe. For example, the first paper would point out that experts are still debating whether the Army Corps of Engineers was negligent. You don’t have to answer these questions in your report, just mention what a few such questions are. In these examples section IV looks at possible answers to the research question. In your actual paper you’ll present one answer—the one you think is best—and a very brief (1-2 sentences) explanation of why you think that answer is best. ...Many historians have had trouble finding information about his life as a child. You would think there would be endless supply of info on someone so historic and monumental to this country. Now that you know George Washington’s basic background, I want to touch on three major topics that truly affect what this paper is all about. ...The men put their names inside of the coats that they made and the soldiers that served for eight months got a coat. The children during the war did many things. Some of them went to school but some of them didn’t. More kids in the north went to school than in the south. Boys could join the army at age 16 but when they were 7 they could be drummers. Young boys could go to war at with their fathers or older brothers. Girls helped their moms take care of the wounded. They also cooked and helped with clothing for the soldiers. The women and girls had to make the clothing for the whole family. The fabric was expensive so most people only had one or two pieces of clothing. Sometimes they would even catch wild turkeys. Nothing was wasted. They kept everything because they had a purpose for it. They would also trade with their patriot neighbors. I do everything in this principle. I'm learning everyday, most time leaning by myself and reflecting, sometimes learning from others, observer what they did good or bad, and listen there viewpoint. I never think I did 100% correctly, but I make max interest for everyone as much as I can. ...soldiers, and what happens to the soldiers when they become free. Since 1997 the Democratic Republic of Congo has become something like a never-ending nightmare, one of the bloodiest conflicts since World War II, causing more than five million deaths. It seems inconceivable that the biggest country in sub-Saharan Africa and on paper one of the richest, packed with copper, diamonds and gold, as well as immense farmlands of great fertility and enough hydropower to light up the continent, is now one of the poorest, and most hopeless nations on earth. Unfortunately, there are no promising solutions within grasp, or even within sight. One of the gloomiest parts about this nightmarish conflict is the use of child soldiers. The overwhelming majority of child soldiers in the Congo have been kidnapped from their families by rebel groups. It has been estimated that one in ten child soldiers or 30,000 children are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The United Nations believes that 15-30% of all newly recruited soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo army are less than 18 years old. One...

In a documentary titled, ¨American History: D-Day Invasion of Normandy¨ by A&E, Richard A Gabriel Ph.D. states that, ¨The enemy machine guns switched to what they call FCL, final coordination line. They're going to put as much machine gun fire on the front of that boat so when it drops, bullets go right through it, kill two or three guys at a time.¨ This means that it was certain death for those first soldiers storming the beach.
