Ancient Greek historian Plutarch described character as a long-standing habit. There are many such habits that different individuals exhibit. Some are naturally shy. Others tend to be bossy. Still others are born leaders. However, some character traits are considered more admirable than others. Character traits I admire are patience, kindness, and good manners--all of which my Greema has modeled for me since I was very young. In the dictionary, patience is defined as, "the capacity to tolerate delay, trouble, etc., without getting angry or upset." Driving home from Disneyworld one summer, we were stuck in traffic for five hours. The A/C had to be turned off to save gas. It was scorching. Yet, amazingly, Greema was calm and cheerful the whole time. She even led us in a round of her favorite children's song about an impatient turtle. In a society where short fuses seem to be the norm, I'm always impressed by Greema's patience.…show more content… Frequently, she goes above and beyond for the sake of others. There are few babysitters who would be willing to pace around for hours holding a crying baby, but Greema rose to the task when I was a little, preserving my parents' sanity by allowing them to have a peaceful night out. She doesn't belittle others for small mistakes like forgetting to bring food to a party, instead offering to help however she can. Greema's kindness extends beyond her family, as well. She displays kindness in the form of charity by volunteering her time to food pantries and church-organized retreats.
