In “Grendel” by John Gardner, Grendel faces several conflicts but when it comes to his last one and it all ends his last words are “Poor Grendel’s had an accident. . . So may you all” (Gardner 174). I believe that these words are meant to be a curse to people because he is wishing pain and accidents on others. This is shown as a curse because pain has been inflicted on grendel and he wants that to happen not only the people around him but all people. Chapter 12 ends with grendel slowly dying, this marking the end of his life. Although, Grendel has had many good encounters will people he has also had his fair share of bad experiences that could make anyones life miserable.
